Sorry, I forgot 'bout this thread, Wilson. Please excuse me.
S'all right man.

I saw a demo of this in a Korean store today, I must say that I am beyond impressed with the new car physics and aiming system. Let me qualify that by saying that I am seldom impressed with game mechanics as I tend to focus more on writing and acting.

I must say also, this new engine has made the game look incredible, for something that large in scope the graphics and effects look almost flawless. We'll soon see how it looks on our own TVs.
Look up Alan Wake, if GFX and stuff is your 'thing' then GTA4 is kind of setting your sights a bit low isn't it? I mean, the gfx i've seen look nice enough, but really, check out Alan Wake. In terms of innovative tech this game is going to show GTA up for the shameless cash cow that it is.

Before I start attracting fanboy abuse like flies to a cowpat, I will still be playing this game once it gets its UK release. But I won't be excited about the GFX.

I looked at that Awake game and tbh it looks nice but the demo's I saw just wanked off over the graphics, no details on the gameplay whatsoever tbh. If you want to play a game that's pretty why don't you buy an interactive tour of an art museum?

No Outkast in this game either! Two Hip-Hop radiostations and they miss out on the best Hip-Hop band out there.

How could someone possibly give the game a perfect review?

Probably didn't sound "New York" enough. Maybe if they make a GTA set in Atlanta.

im really not that excited, it may just be that ive only slightly played other titles in the series, or maybe because i feel i would get bored very quickly, purely because without things to do i find unstructured games get boring after a few days.

A valid point, I too am more interested in gameplay, particularly in the case of GTA4. I would like to know if it is anything more than a gfx update of GTA:SA.

Other than the graphics, they've tweaked the physics of the game around a bit, as well as added the new Euphoria engine.

The combat is also improved, going for a more GoW approach.

Basically, it's going to be an improved San Andreas with a new story, which is fine by me, considering that I loved SA.

I've just been sampling some of the 'viral marketing' that Rockstar have put out on the official site. Its really clever and funny stuff that, alone, makes me want to explore all the aspects of GTA IV. Which would probably take me about 6 months to do fully, it appears.

I cannot put into words the undeniable hype I have for this game. It almost sickens me to see myself as a drooling fool over this, but I am. I have grown tired of the 12 hour adventures games keep dishing out. Grand theft auto has to disprove all that, have undeniably amazing game mechanics, beautiful graphics, a near flawless physics engine, and a story that doesn't inevitably divulge into some over the top criminal gone good. If it doesnt live up to my high standards, I'll be filled with the kind of rage that will likely lead to the destruction of my game disc, and a complete disowning of Rockstar games.

I really don't think I'll have to do that though.

Neither do I. Though, on the other hand, if you end up hating GTA 4, maybe you could send your copy to me?

Or maybe IGN got exclusive rights? Notice that almost no other gaming site has posted a review yet?

Is anyone else a little concerned with the review over at IGN? Now, I'm all for giving a good game the praise it deserves, but the review in question seems to go really over the top in terms of adulation. As in, we're-going-to-write-a-paragraph-on-every-aspect-of-the-game-and-praise-it-to-high-heaven sort of adulation. That and the end of the review goes thusly:

Presentation- 10
Graphics- 10
Sound- 10
Gameplay- 10
Lasting Appeal- 10

Now, call me a cynical bugger, but when a game starts notching up perfect scores in every department, I get a little suspicious. I haven't played GTAIV yet, but the graphics I've seen certainly aren't on par with titles like Gears or the latest Unreal. And there wasn't a single flaw or detraction made or noted throughout the entire review. It was all shiny happy positivity, like reading a literary version of Sunny Delight.

Maybe Rockstar have crafted that elusive thing, the perfect game. But I think I'm right to be cynical, especially when a reviewer comes up with such hyperbole as 'we're sure to be swapping tales of our antics in Liberty City for years to come. '
Perhaps they just feel obligated to give it a high score, in order to keep in favour with Rockstar and thus receive more 'exclusives' in the future?

Kotaku [http://kotaku.com/384421/grand-theft-auto-iv-review-life-liberty-city-and-the-pursuit-of-happiness] gave it a similar review and if i cant trust them who can i trust?

The question is, if they posted a really negative but rational review stating that they dident like it would Rockstar give them the cold shoulder in the future?

IGN hasn't given a game a 10 in over a decade, I don't think they'd break that for some crappy game. Metacritic has the game at a 100, and it tallies all reviews out for the game at the time together, so the game has been doing good when it comes to exclusive reviews.
