I grew up a comic geek, and part of me still is, but I'm much more into manga now. There's one author and therefore one continuity, which is just much easier to follow.

See, this is why I read Japanese Manga. Their is a beginning, a middle, and a end. (and no, I don't read DBZ) We get a good ass story, and we get to eventually move on.

American comic books needs to take a hint and start retiring their character so that they can move onto new ones. If they die, let them stay dead, and have a brand new character take their place, it can even be part of their organ story. Spider-man can retire, and later have him return as a mentor for a new hero.
OH MY GOD! I totally agree, that is why I stopped reading Marvel and DC in the 90's thanks to Viz Media and other copies for their translations. The funny thing is I ran across the superhero RPG Mutants and Masterminds that takes your idea to heart, and I thought that it would have been great if the American comic books industry would take that as their model.
the other thing is the question of "How old is Batman, Superman, Spider-man, Iron-Man, and all the others." The answer is "OLD" They all been around so long, and with all the back story, that new fans can't just get into them. They are still iconic, and with the movies and cartoons, they do have new fans, but nobody is going to care much about the comic-books anymore.

I think it's because America can't just let something good go, it's probably why the Simpsons still has new episodes. A re-imagining is fine, but not so much when the original is literally still going on. At least with manga, you can tell when the story is coming to a close. (Mahou Sensei Negima!, Claymore, and The World God Only Knows, are on my top list)

Hey don't diss my era D:< I was born in the 90's you know.

And it wasn't completely bad. Sure the comics were crap for the most, i will admit, but we had awesome music and some really decent cartoon shows.

The reveal of Osbourne was a nice idea but his current role as the leader of the Evil Avengers just shows how ultimately Marvel can't come up with a new nemesis and wouldn't dare shake things up without restoring the status quo soon after, which is why I don't really follow it much anymore.

Give me one week, a few friends and all the resources of Marvel and I could make it into something actually good.

I can't stand most mainstream comics that go on forever and ever. Give me Sandman or Preacher or any of the myriad great graphic novels out there, the ones that have a story to tell through the medium of comic books and actually end. Also, the people saying Manga knows when to end, while they are slightly better than Western comics, there are still several series that drag on forever (One Piece, Bleach, I'm looking at you).

Ah, the 90´s! Clone Saga was bad. Only way to make it worse would be hiring Rob Liefeld to do the art...yeesh!

I seem to remember all this occurring at the same time they decided to do the Marvel Vs. DC crossover. While it was already lame enough that they had Marvel's consistent icon Spider-Man fighting some lame third-tier hero in Super-Boy, they wrote this at the time where it wasn't even the real Peter Parker fighting him.

loving the comics are weird eps, despite not having a problem with the insanity of certain sagas (i,e, the clone saga).

Seriously, I dont know WHO has been saying they like the "-INSERT MEDIA HERE - is weeeeiiirrrd" thing, but it annoys the hell out of me. You talk about giving people what they want so for the love of GOD, stop it.

Ugh, after watching this video I went and read the clone saga summary on wikipedia and holy crap it was even more convoluted than I thought.

I'm really in two minds about these 'comics are weird' episodes. On the one hand, they are particularly funny, highlighting the many pitfalls that should be avoided in creating American comics. On the other, they give the impression (as I can see from a multitude of these comments) that all American comics are like this (convoluted never-ending messes of extreme continuity) when it simply isn't true. I wager there is a comic out there for everybody, they just aren't hearing about it through all of this crap that deters people from being interested.

It would be nice to see an episode showing some of the better works in comics, perhaps some creator-owned stuff that is continuity-free and easy to get into. But I guess that wouldn't bring in the required amount of humour...

Also, there were plenty of 90s comics that didn't suck.

Another way they could have avoided the whole OMD\BND was have the Spidey in Civil War turn out to be a skrull, leading into Secret Invasion. Would have totally prevented it and cleared Peter; seeing as how skrull can dupilcate powers.

I have another idea for a "COMICS ARE WEIRD" video, talk about why people like Venom so much.

...Or rather, talk about why YOU THINK people like Venom so much, because I doubt you'll give an honest and fair view on the matter.

Either way, it would be an interesting episode, especially when you bring up Spider-Man 3 and how it wasn't JUST the inclusion of Venom that made it bad... Or rather, disappointing.
