Perhaps Bob needs to stick with reviewing movies.
Some of the speculation is interesting, but the underlying logic seems horribly, horribly flawed. I would ask if I was the only one who noticed, but from the 37 pages worth of post that appear mostly critical from the samples I have read, it appears everybody on the escapist has noticed. Nevertheless, I feel like contributing my two cents.
Bob's arguments essential boil down to the fact that as technology progresses, computing power is becoming cheaper, faster, more portable and wireless. So we are basically getting better hardware for our PC gaming hardware for less, and this is supposed to kill PC gaming? Bob, did you even listen to your own video? You're claiming PC Gaming will die because we will have even better technology to run our games with. How do you miss such a lapse in logic? Will you next claim mountain biking is dead because you expect bikes to become lighter and cheaper?
Then again, if you can't make the distinction between a PC and a Desktop, I suppose we should expect confusion to abound. Bob uses these terms interchangeably, and never once seems to acknowledge the difference between them. A Personal Computer refers to any general purpose computer that can be programmed or reconfigured to perform whatever function is needed by the end user, and is hardly limited to bulky desktop computers. At the very least, considering how PC Gaming is the topic at hand, Bob should of included any platform capable of running PC games as a Personal Computer, such as laptops, as every third poster has pointed out. After all, the point isn't what form the PC will take in the future, but the fact that as long as it can run games, PC owners have every reason to buy games for them. Whether it takes the form of a box or some futuristic pocket computer the wirelessly connects to all its peripherals is wholly irrelevant. As long as it can run games(and by definition it can run games if the user configures it for that purpose), users will use it to run games.
One last thing. Toward the beginning of the video, Bob makes a comment that suggest PC gamers only became PC gamers because they were unable to afford real gaming systems like the Nintendo and were thus stuck with their PCs as their only gaming system. I mention this because it illustrates Bob's complete ignorance of the subject material at hand. Bob, PC gaming rigs were and still are more expensive than any console system, primarily due to the fact that you are purchasing better hardwire. This was particular true during the Nintendo years, where a simple hard drive would put you back than a complete NES systems including cartridges. Simply put, nobody was choosing PCs over consoles do to lack of money. You would know this if you had bothered to carry out any research on the subject matter before posting this very speculative and uninformed opinion piece. You might want to stick with movies in the future Bob.
