...but is it a BLOODSPORT????
(got rid of the shouty-ness.)

Nope, but in his description of his proposed conflict resolution system, Bob never specified that as a requirement. In fact, he specifically states "...aaaand then the other guy leaves. But only gets the Silver."

---

Again, I must reiterate my objection to this new... feature.
First, it's mostly just a voiceover with bland, 50's art style faces and the occasional relevant jpeg. The faces are going to get old quickly for everyone. They're already hackneyed to me.

Second, the video really comes across as "oh, this was something that popped into Bob's head that caused him to maybe look up one or two things and then spew out an opinion." There actually is very little going on in the way of discourse.

What I mean by that is: rather than presenting a stance on a subject, providing support for his position, then offering and refuting possible counter-arguments, and finally reinforcing the original position, it's just Bob talking about what Bob thinks. This strikes me as lazy, slipshod, uninformative (aside from some observations about American culture-specific superheros in the past), and ultimately unproductive; frankly, I expect more out of Bob, because when he actually tries, he can be pretty damn insightful.

No, The Big Picture reeks of something that Bob agreed to but either isn't willing or able to actually put in the time to make it a quality product. He 'padded his stats' by opening with a topic that would cause a large amount of pageviews simply because of the subject matter, but this week, it feels like he had an idea pop into his mind and then slapped something together in an hour or so.

I would hope that the Escapist staff considers whether or not they're getting their money's worth out of this.

Personally, I'll give tBP one more shot: after all, when starting something new, there are likely going to be false steps. That said, I'm not hopeful that things will change. Bob has demonstrated in the past that he can be very resistant to any sort of constructive criticism.

If Ireland needs a superhero movie, it will be a documentary about the life of Phil Lynott.

Who wasn't born in Ireland. Who cares?

I don't approve of dissing the awesome that was the world cup.
I second this! What the hell! THe world cup is big because the WORLD actually participates! As opposed to the World Football (that is American football) Championships, which really just involves teams from the same country. In fact, I think the US is the only country that doesn't go CRAZY over FIFA. Yeah they have a team, but there isn't advertising being shoved in your face and the game ACTUALLY HAPPENS rather than starting and stopping every ten seconds to rest the players and shove and ad in your face.

The rest of the world is fine with football (REAL football) so why isn't the U.S.? Sorry moviebob, but purely because of this fact, I can't say I agree at all with your video.
Not to mention we totally did get into it this world cup. I mean not to the degree that everyone else does but has Bob watched the video of Donovan's goal against Argentina? So. Epic. And we're a bid country for 2018 so I don't know about the rest of the world but I will cry tears of joy if we get to host again.

Like you touched upon, people usually think of Americans as fat assholes and see Captain America as some sort of bragging. But isn't James Bond sort of like English bragging? Not sure if I understand my point, but whatever.

Also I'm afraid I'm not going to believe Chris Evans as Captain America. Sometimes I forget his name all together and call him Johnny Storm or Human Torch.
First time I've ever watched the Big Pic. I think it won't be my last. I quoted just to say that I do get your point. Bond is a big 'in your face' to other countries. Plus, he tends to bone all their women. Bond > Chuck Norris. Which Bond is the real question there.

Other countries have gods and rich mythologies. America doesn't so we have super heroes.
I've heard that somewhere before. It is a very interesting point.

Considering how the creation of Superman is something Canadians can be proud of. We've already got multiple movies about a Canadian superhero. Well.. Canadian immigrant to the US I think.

Do we have any super heroes down here in Oz? I've searched the swiss cheese that is my memory banks, and all I can come up with is a short-lived Marvel one named Captain Kangaroo and a G.I. Joe named Outback.

Oh, a DC villain named Captain Boomerang also.

Bob's incapacity at comprehending a mindset and conception of the world outside Planet America (not the continent, the planet) is made painfully obvious in this video.

Loved the pic for 'Flag-waving Jerkwad'!

Was a little worried where you were going with all that Street Fighter reference.....thought maybe you were gonna push for Van Damme to finally do a sequel...

First one was retarded (Nazi sentiments in Halo? Really? Shitting me? Man, grasping at any straw available to support your ignorant hate, huh?)
Bro, he never once said that Halo was promoting Nazism. He merely said that is was a funny coincidence that if you looked at from a skewed perspective it does seem like that it's saying the uniformly made people are killing a diversely ethnic group. Which he admits that he knows it's not the games intention.

Also bro how is his hate ignorant? He could hate it for any reason and that would still be valid.

You didn't think about it though ... it's what various Germanic tribes did to settle disputes between clan territories up until the early feudal period.

They picked a champion, they hacked at eachother, victor is recognised as biggest bad ass in the land and lends political credence to his clan.
