Thief. Shalebridge Cradle. Fuck.
When you make it into the inner area, and for the first time you see something actually fucking MOVE, you just freeze, and are thinking... "shit.....did I just see that?"

On a more specific not, one of the zombie inmates was lying on the other side of a door (I did not know this), and creeping up to the door, just about to unlock it, it leaps up and howls and sticks its arms through the bars on the door only half a meter in front of my face :O

Bricks were shat.

Dino-crisis. Think old resident evil but with dinosaurs. Instead of dogs jumping through windows it's velociraptors. While your on the top floor of the building too. Come to think of it Nemisis from Resident Evil was horrifying, especially when he shows up randomly within the first 30 mins of play.

Well, in Half Life 2, Episode 2....

When Alyx is attacked by the Hunter, I actually thought she died. I'm pretty attached to her, because shes badass, funny and overall a great character so it shocked me enough that I had to pause the game and go ''NO WAY.''
That is my same shocking moment, or perhaps at the end of ep 2.. You know the bit.

The scariest would be prob be a custom L4D map loaded in L4D2 with realism on. All I heard was a hunters scream and I turn around and get a face full of claw and I literally jumped from my seat. Nerves of steel this one..

Funny, for me, Condemned 1 was dull and boring. I walked through the game yawning most of the way without being really scared. Surprised occassionally, but nowhere near as tense as I was told I would be.

The second however, had me on the edge of my seat at every moment. I don't know what it was, but the second nailed the atmosphere for me.

Scariest moment in a game for me was in Fatal Frame 2. When you walk down the stairs in one house and you see a ghost fall by you out of nowhere, then continue onwards to fight with it. Using a camera against a staggering ghost with her head hanging awkwardly made me stop for a while.

When I was younger, Resident Evil 2 and 3 startled me a few times... I cant seem to remember if it was Nemesis or Tyrant, but one of them shows up, you manage to "kill" it, and as your going down the hallway outside the room it breaks through the fucking wall!

I also remember getting creeped out in System Shock 2 when you can't see any enemies and start asking yourself if you're imagining those cyborg noises.

BioShock. The plaster-covered spider splicers in Fort Frolic. Their introduction sequence scared the crap outa me. And even after the initial shock had worn off, there was something distinctly unnerving about them. It's the way they chase you down in implacable silence. Oh, and their near-featureless faces do not help.

Honourable mentions go to Alien vs Predator (1999) and Penumbra.

Most astoundingly awesome moment has to be the poseidon boss battle in God of War 3, when Gaia punches poseidon and you see a tiny kratos charging at him as well, it took a while to massage my jaw muscles back into resting position.
There were also some parts from heavy rain that made me think "how am I doing this" I often had to pause from the intensity.

In Bioshock, near the beginning, there's an area when I'm walking through waist-deep water, and I see on the wall in the room ahead a shadow of what looks like a splicer tearing through a body. She begins to speak in the unsettling and mind-fuck inducing manner that most splicers do, and I, ready for one hell of an opportunity (c'mon, take out an unsuspecting splicer? Badass all around.), take out and check my tommy gun. As I creep towards the entrance of the room, I edge towards the left wall so I'll be able to see her before she sees me. Then suddenly...

*click*

The fucking lights go out, and I lose it. Running backwards, I'm spraying ammo everywhere, with only the flash of the muzzle to light my way. Turns out it was a scare tactic, the splicer didn't actually exist, it was SUPPOSED to scare the shit out of me. So, in the spirit of getting the shit scared out of me, and shooting into the unknown at absolutely nothing, I present this visual representation of my freak-out
Thats the same for me

I have to go to Doom 2. Bad graphics but I was quite young and playing in the middle of the night. In on level close to the end I was watching of of those huge demon like creatures with heavy footsteps, through a bared window, pretty far away, and hoping I wouldnt have to miss with him, his roars in the distance were scary enough, as I walk past the window to a diferent room suddenly the roars increase to very loud and the freaking thing was breathing on my neck (it ported itself out), I start shooting my plasma gun everywhere while being bashed loosing shit loads of health. My heart was beating at 200/minute. Tried to run away but ended up in a dead end with it coming to me like a truck, till I finally killed it with my plasma gun. I almost pissed myself.

In Silent Hill 2, when you enter the room with the flashlight and the Mannequin leaps up, bringing with it the chaotic radio noises that made the experience all the more frightening. I was 13 or 14 at the time, and I remember screaming and backing away from the game for a moment.

Also, although it wasn't that scary per se, the head crabs in Half-Life startled the shit out of me on more than one occasion. Everytime they jump at me, I jump a little as well.

Also, for some reason, I used to fuckin' HATE underwater levels. Way back when graphics weren't exactly the best, going underwater would turn the whole screen reeaalllyyy dark blue, and it just....idk, it was weird. My freakout during Toy Story 2 (The 3d one, w/ buzz lightyear, on PC) starts around <a href=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GI-1O6rvHZQ&feature=related>5:50.

Good sir. I cant agree with you anymore than I do right now. was on skype with a voice recorder and all my friends could hear was "MOTHERF**** WHAT THE F*** SH** ME"
And then I proceeded to sit back down to my friends ridiculing laughter and carried on with the game. I think that's the day that I became desensitized to horror games because as of yet, no other game has scared me much. then again it was the last one i played so here's hoping another one comes along.
