You know what I mean. There's that one series of games that you really really like and play constantly. Maybe it's not your favourite series but it's up there. It's filled with great games... except for one.

What's the game from a series you love that you just hate?

For me, it's Final Fantasy X. GOD I hate this game. I know a lot of people like it but I just hate it so much. The main reason is Tidus. He just never shuts up! "Wah wah wah, this is my story" but it's not even his story really! The story is just kinda stupid, the fashion design is beyond ridiculous, the voice acting is just flat, I find blitzball to be mind-numbingly dull and the world is just kinda boring. I will give it credit for the battle system cos even though it's not particularly new it is really fun.

So people, what about you?

Ultima IX. With a bullet. It's not even a "black sheep" so much as an evil, series destroying sheep. With leprosy.

Dead or Alive Xtreme 2: Takes a fighting game series and makes into almost like a dating sim.

Bloody Roar 4: Last game in the series currently took all the controls and gameplay mechanics and made it nearly unplayable to people who got comfortable with the others.

Soul Calibur IV: Changed the controls so you had to relearn how to use some characters.

Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Tenkaichi: Makes the gameplay so simplified so that you can end fights with very few button presses.

Guitar Hero Van Halen: Came out after Guitar Hero 5 but used the engine from the Guitar Hero Metallica game which is a major step backwards.

Call of Duty World at War: The only game in the series that I don't enjoy because everything seems like a step backwards. Aiming, graphics, controls in general, and setting all seem like a downgrade compared to any others, even if it isn't made by Activision.

Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen II

Plot sucked, weapon degradation system drove me up the wall and nothing but the voice acting and loyalty to the series pulled me through it.

Tales of the Tempest from the Namco "Tales of" series. It's like they got cocky because they were making a DS game and just took a big fat shit on an empty DS cartridge, compressed it, put a title sticker on it and put it in stores. I guess I shouldn't say it's too terrible of a game, but it is waaaaay below their standards.

The closest thing I have to this (that I can currently think of) is Fable 3. There are parts of it that I enjoy but over all I was seriously disappointed by it after enjoying Fable and loving Fable 2 (when Fable 3 was announced I jumped up and down a bit if memory serves).

Final Fantasy XIII = Ungh, I can't talk about why this game is bad without going into a full-on diatribe.

Metroid: Other M = If you're going to give Samus and voice and make Metriod heavily story-based, then hire a voice actress who can emote and hire a writer who doesn't suck!

That's all that come to mind at this point.

This right here. I loved the whole series but this game is just atrocious.

C&C4. Which, by the way, doesn't exist. Nope. Absolutely no idea where people get the idea that it does.

Yeah... They removed everything that made the previous games what they were and replaced all of it with "crawlers" because they couldn't be bothered to design structures. On that note I wish that Dawn of War had kept structures. Seems that sequels nowadays take features away rather than add them.

StarControl 3, made by Sierra. It has so little left from the originals it seems like the team had one guy who had played them and had an hour to explain the whole game to them. The races are remade with hand puppets, the musics are downgraded to midi and ships are redesigned to be 50% more grey and generic.

In combat, AI had the infuriating habit of flying away from the player. If the player's ship was slower than the enemy, the fight was pretty much unwinnable for both parties. One of the new ships even had an "attack" that created a wall between it and the opponent, and a teleport in case something was getting close to it. It was one of the total of three ships with no firepower per se, but only varying techniques to delay the gameplay. I actually played the majority of the game with easy difficulty just to get the fights over with.

The plot was horrid, and proceeded only when the onboard computer told you to go somewhere and do something. Without spoiling the ending, it was worse than Spore. It was like Spore had ended when you met your tenth alien race and just quit to menu with a voiceover telling you you don't care about the galaxy anyway.

Since then, Sierra's lisence to StarControl series has gone obsolete, and the makers of original games have been trying to talk their employer into making a new starcontrol game. I really wish the best for them, because SC2 is still my third favorite game ever.

Mass Effect: Galaxy?

Haven't played it, but "iPhone game prominently featuring Jacob and Miranda" is not the way to get my attention.

Assassin's Creed, it's got a great story, and it introduced me (and everyone) to an exciting world, but the original, boy it's not the greatest!

For me that goes to The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. Now I LOVE the Zelda series with a burning passion, but this game just made me sigh at how it was just so "meh" overall. I couldn't even finish it, it was just so painful to try and go through...

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty/Substance.

I cannot understand the hatred of this game, just because Raiden is the main character in the game and he's got emotions, and he's not Solid Snake, we should be pissed about it?

It's as integral a game as the original Metal Gear Solid, and it makes Metal Gear Solid 4 better for it, I think.

The plot does feel disheveled, but so what? It's still fun to play, and if nothing else, when you replay it a few more times, you can decipher the story, and it's actually relavent to today's world, if nothing else.
