The BNP are misunderstood...

Apparently Griffin is now going for another election as the MP for my borough. A couple of friends are planning something and someone at my college applied for a sniper rifle licence.

Im not sure where exactly these "Sniper Rifle licenses" come from although I suspect your friend is telling porkies. Also I imagine theres at least one security agency whos picked up on your post so well done for making their plans known in a public domain.

I could be wrong but I seem to remember the BNP gaining lots of votes by targetting the poorer areas of the population with policies that would allow you to defend your own home when a burglar attacks. Basically, a couple of common sense laws that would stop you being sued when a burglar cuts himself on a knife after falling through your kitchen skylight (that happened, always great when the law sides with the criminal).

Problem is these voters saw these policies and thought "Great! A government party that gets it right!" while ignoring all of the other bigoted ideas the party is based on. I believe they are also securing a hefty vote from those that are afraid of the recent terrorism scares.

People need to take note of the BNP because they have played a rather clever game and are now peddling themselves as a legitimate political party.

For years they were just dismissed by the press as "racist loons" the mainstream media also gave them a wide birth despite growing popularity in certain regions of the UK. The practical up shot (for them) was that they could canvass the local populous and dispel the opinion that they are some kind of lunatic fringe party, but that they actually had some valid policies. Had they been give press time and impartial media coverage, the chances are people would be better educated as to what exactly it is that they stand for and what it would mean if they were to come to power. Given that information I doubt they would have the support that they do.

Seriously, take a look at their website, compare it to the Lib Dems. They know how to use public opinion (again whipped up by the press) to further their ends. If you look at their repatriation policy it is about as close as you can get to darkies go home without actually saying as much. We need to take the BNP seriously because ignoring them has given them the foothold they now have. Instead of just dismissing them as evil racists, we actually need to pick holes in their arguments through rational debate. It is also worth remembering that Nick Griffin is not stupid. The guy has a 2:1 from Cambridge. He is pretty much responsible for getting the BNP to where they are now.
