I just finished reading The Punisher, after watching the movie. I thought the book was much better than the movie, and I find this to be so with most books that came before the movies. (the Harry Potter series in particular) Theres just so much that the movie can't dove into, that the book can.

Are there any movie books that have given you the same notion? I used search, and could not find another thread like this one. So please my fellow Escapists, share your opinions.

I have heard people say that the movie for Shawshank Redemption is better than the book though.

Any and every book that has been made into a movie. Ever.

Except LotR, I couldn't get myself to read through them after I had watched the movies already. Way too detailed and all for my likings.

They said the same thing about The Secrets of The Ya Ya Sisterhood....I didn't bother reading the book though.

But I must say that Do androids dream of electric sheep is a zillion times better than the movie blade runner.

Hmmm, I'd say Trainspotting worked just as good as a movie.

Though the book has some really fantastic moments that wern't adapted.

I'll find that book before I watch the film now. I've started being the guy who gets books before watching the films.

james and the giant peach is better as a movie than as a book mostly due to henry selick directing it (he also did nightmare before christmas), that's all i can really think of though

The Godfather Movie was actually better then the Book, mostly due to the whole Johnny Fontaine section in the book which Coppola thankfully dropped from the movie.

Lord of the Flies the book is better than the movie (Especially the original film) and A Series Of Unfortunate Events as well. I struggle to think of a book where the film is just as good as the book actually. I guess A Scanner Darkly has a film just as good, and Holes as well, but I can't think of a film better than the book. One problem though is that you can't have as much action in films as that takes longer to make and show.

Eragon is a good example of this, the book was great but the movie was just pure crap. I was really disappointed in it.

I'm going to have to weigh in with the predictable but nonetheless true "every comic book film ever." With particular attention paid to the Punisher (as mentioned), Watchmen, 300, all the X-Men films (although I consider those peripheral as opposed to translatory) and eessppeecciiaallyy Wanted.

The Shawshank Redemption was one that I found better on film than paper, it was more grandiose and made me care more, as was Fight Club actually, even though Chuck Palahnuik is my favourite author. That was mainly down to the brilliant casting. Not an actor out of place.

I'm also going to mention Twilight, not as a better book or a better film, just for the fun of it. Are you ready?

Twilight.

There it was.

The City of Ember.

Fine book overall, but the movie was just horrible. I could barely recognize it as a movie adaptation of the book.

Sorry, but that's all I've got. And if somebody asks "Then why did you post at all?", I have no answer for them.
