I think all people should read these books:
Jurassic Park
The Lost World: Jurassic Park
V for Vendetta
Watchmen
The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy Series
Anything else that was written by Douglas Adams
Atlas Shrugged
World War Z

Oh. And the real fun part about these is that I read a few of these when I was in third grade. So no one can ***** to me about "it being to hard!" because a small child was able to read Jurassic Park and understand it.

I was going to say that :(

A Song of Ice and Fire is also a great series, unfortunately I never found the second book in my local library.(small library, only a few thousand books and maybe a hundred fantasy)

I like to recommend The God Delusion 'cause it can have a grand impact upon ones life and world view, but any of his books are worth a read in my opinion.

A few trilogies by Robin Hobb; The Farseer Trilogy, The Liveship Traders Trilogy, The Tawny Man Trilogy.

The Belgarion and Malloreon are winners, along with the Redemption of Althalus.

I'm just gonna give up now, suffice to say there's too many books to recommend :)

Love discworld makes me smile!

I would recommend the Dexter series by Jeff Lindsay because it is cleverly written and is also darkly humorous at some points.

Atlas shrugged?

Are you serious?

Jurassic Park is a pretty awesome book though. Intensely violent aswell.

The Odyssey.

IMO, the best Greek mythology book.
Whats it about, and is it a novel?
A little hard to explain (basically a worrier trying to get home), and its a novel.
A very old one though.
Sounds quite cool, if they have it on amazon i might lok into it

Rides a Dread Legion.

One of the more suspenseful books from Feist. But it's not a 'stand alone' kind of book. You'll need to read the thirty-or-something books that came out prior.

Oh, and I've recently been enthralled by His Dark Material. Another recommendation.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels.
Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next stuff.
Frank Herbert's Dune series.
Charles Grant's Black Oak (unfortunately never going to be finished, still worth it, though).
Tad Williams' Otherland.
J.R.R. Tolkien's LotR, of course.
Uhm.
Dunno.
Can't think of anything else at the moment.
