Would you stab a stranger brutally and repeatedly, listen to his screams as he dies inches from your own face while you stare back coldly and completely detached from the moment? Would you end up covered in a man's blood while cut apart the corpse and hide the remains so that you can avoid being brought to justice? Would you live with yourself as you cut out a persons last breath? Would you do this for one million dollars?

It disappoints me how our eagerness to kill grows as it becomes easier to do and get away with, strengthened further with a reward. Killing is a part of our nature as humans, or even as living organisms, and so I don't think it will ever leave us but it would be better if people considered more than the ease and the reward when deciding the importance of a life.

First, I'd kill the man that handed me the box, because I know how these things go. Then, after that, I would press the button a million times and see what nation I just scuttled.

First of all, it's always a person you don't know that dies. Second, the next person the box goes to is always somebody you don't know. Since this is the case, I would destroy the box because there is always a chance that the next person will press the button and I will be the next one who dies.

I have no need for $1 million, and I don't like death of other people.
You have no need for a million dollars? You're either Bill Gates or Jesus.

I have no chance of going to jail? If so, then I'd pay to do that man.

Actually that is always the case, that was the whole point behind the short story.
I never read the short story, nor did I see the Twilight Zone episode from the 80's series that was based on the story. I didn't see the movie either, but my sister did. What I posted was based on what she told me about the movie. She didn't reveal too much, just the basic premise that if you press the button, you get a million dollars, but someone you don't know dies. And that the next person who gets the box will be someone you don't know. She never mentioned that if you pressed the button, you are the next one who will die when somebody else presses it. Knowing this, I would not press the button. And for good measure, I would destroy the box so no one else would be killed because of it.

This has been done before and no. For all I know the person who dies could be a family memeber or friend.

Pretty out of context, but you get the idea
I read your OP and when you Asked "Would you hit it?" I remembered seeing that picture about a year ago and decided to find it.
