Jaden had expected armed guards. Perhaps dogs as well. Locked doors, certainly. Security cameras? Unlikely, but if they had power anything was possible.
What he had not expected was to become hopelessly lost. The building hadn't even looked big enough to get lost in.
The men inhabiting the building had evidently been expected to know where to go; there was little in the way of directions or area labeling. He had found his way into what appeared was a secondary barracks, and by the looks of the dry blood on the walls and the rooms he looked into - some of which contained nothing but a metal chair with straps on it - it was being used as a sort of interrogation area.
As he crept past one such room, he almost didn't notice the guard inside. Doubling back, he saw it was a guard, leaning over another man who was missing his clothes, gun, and most of his head. So at least one of his companions had escaped, it seemed. Even as he watched, the living guard pulled out a radio and spoke into it.
"Everyone report to the main hall. We have found a dead man with only his helmet. If anyone has seen anything, report immediately!"
Well that wasn't good. It seemed stealth was no longer an option. It was quite likely that whoever had escaped had rescued the others as well, but he had to be sure.
Wasting no more time, Jaden pulled the revolver and shot the guard, still looking at the dead man, twice through the chest. Knowing he'd regret it later, he decided to forgo searching the man for ammo; he didn't have enough time.
He went down the long white corridor, checking each room as he did so.
