I think everyone who has a problem with memes becoming popular doesn't realise that the type of people who love these jokes doesn't change... it's you who has changed, your sense of humour, your world view. If you met yourself when you first thought memes were the most hilarious thing ever, you'd see some annoying little kid who looked at the pre-cursors to 9Gag and MemeBase on a daily basis.

Quit complaining about the facts of life. </anti-hipster rant>
This... memes can be funny. but the reason most of you seem to be disheartened by this VERY NATURAL TREND, is because either A) You feel a part of your culture (which it isn't) is being used and abused by people not of your culture (again, which it isn't).

Or

B)The type of humour currently used doesn't jive with your own... which is inevitable when you considers memes are not icons of a bygone era, but an ever evolving cultural phenomenon.

The ship has sailed people. Find some other niche sub-cultural movement to call your own. I'll be right behind you.

I thought it was alright at first, since it was about one of my local universities going on fire, but then all of these horribly mis-used ones started popping up and it's just driving me mad.

Oh dear, my unversity's been having a war against Bangor...I forsee the pages being taken down soon too. We already had an email of complaint about using people's names in the memes...

But then if it does get taken down it wouldn't be such a bad thing, no more being spammed by my friends liking unfunny memes...

I'd like to score some bonus points by sharing the funniest of the tyrade I've been bombarded with but I, sadly, do not know how to embed images :/

Oh, you old fuddy-duddies! What's wrong with universities getting together as a little community and making some jokes? I've personally made a few and people have gotten a laugh out of my pictures and I've laughed at there's too. Who cares if it's done 'wrong'? It's putting a smile on tired-ass student's faces, as we study late into the night with coffee and biscuits.

I personally love it all.

I noticed it recently.

http://www.reddit.com/r/terriblefacebookmemes/

It's almost painful to see how terrible all of these are.

Although this one makes me laugh.

... But that isn't how tha... Your supposed t... They're doing it wro... my god what is wrong with the world, and these are uni students?!

This one sort of made me laugh, only because it totally defies the actual meme while being related to the picture and university with the same sort of humour.

The quality of the humour will deteriorate as the lowest common denominator gets lower.

The more people reading and making these things the worse the average one wil be.

Sorry people but this really is the final nail in the coffin of the classic advice dog style meme.

It was fun while it lasted.

It's not like none of these pages are funny by the way.

All of these are really helping me through this difficult time of mourning.

I think just about every uni has, Lancaster against UCUM, Leicester against De Montfort, Sussex Med School against Brighton, Canterbury against Kent, OSU against U of O, Stanford against Berkeley - I'm guessing your at Aberystwyth?

Tbf it's not hatred, it's banter, some people just can't take a joke.

It is, without question, the fault of 9gag and its sudden rise in popularity with teens who only use the Internet for facebook.

Usually i'm not immediately against the "Mainstream" transformation niche things sometimes go through, but in this case I am.

Rage comics and Rage faces were rewards of being part of Internet culture, Comics would have ONE rage face per comic right at the fucking end and the rest was meant to be charming, shit, MS paint original drawings.

But now what do we have? Copies of copies, every rage face under the sun used in one comic, No original drawing to be found, creations being unashamedly lifted from one site to be claimed as "Original work" by another.

Bleh. It annoys me, All the charm is gone.

My probleam with all the Uni Memes, here in Canada it started about two weeks ago as well as I can tell, is that people don't really know how to do them. I know for my Uni someone posted a meme of that baby fist pumping, I really don't know what its called nor do I care, saying Shitty Internet, my Uni has very bad internet in a couple of our buildings. I will not claim to know a lot about memes but I know that is wrong, the fist pump baby is for when something awsome happens. Its just sad that people when posting these do not do them right because there can be some funny ones when it happens.

Personally, apathetic Toombs is apathetic. I don't mind "internet memes" entering into the mainstream, because I'm not a hipster.[footnote]:p, or
U MAD BRA?

Take your pick[/footnote] The things that are good I like, the things that aren't I don't. Mainstreamness or the lack thereof should play no part.

Just my view.

Don't get me started on the UCD/TCD type ones they get old quick. Yes we get it we are supposed to dislike each other but one does not simply think they are better than UCD doesn't even make sense in the context of the meme. I'm willing to laugh at any meme as long as it makes sense.
