Full Name: Taggart Ross

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Looks: 6'2", slender w/minimal muscle definition, tanned skin, medium jet black hair, scraggly facial hair except around the scar tissue (scarring as a result from a Glasgow Smile treatment), dark brown eyes, usually wears a black vest with a grey short sleeved shirt with black pants and black shoes.

Personality: Socially awkward at most times due to extended periods of solitude, generally has an optimistic disposition and copes with many of life's troubles through his sense of humor; he only faces a problem with complete seriousness when he absolutely feels that it is necessary. Keeps his eyes and mind open, is quick to learn and looks to explore something new each day.

Faction: Freelance worker

Bio:
An excerpt from the early writings of Taggart Ross:
'Amphira...not the best place to be brought up in. Little food, and water that seemed more foul on the way in than on the way out. Still, it's a home, and living next to the water seemed pleasant; the smells of the city werent as bad and it didn't seem all that crowded. My mom and dad tell me I'm lucky that we live as good as we do. But I hear stories of much better places, cleaner places, places that I could only dream of visiting...'
Born in a small house in Amphira, he lived a sheltered life early on with his mother caring for him while his father was away at work most of the day. As he grew older, food and water became harder to come by. His mother was forced to leave him at home to find work. It was only a matter of time before he would become bored with life in his home and decide to venture a little further into The City.
A few rough years later, at the age of 8, Tagg learned the ways of The City fairly well. Mapping out every street and alleyway in his head every trip he took, memorizing it until he could practically navigate the locale blind-folded. Always returning home before his parents and keeping his adventures secret. Months later found out that honest money was hard to come by and charity wasn't all that common, even as young as he was. So he quickly took to thievery, and it was never of large sums of money or expensive jewelery; he knew well enough of the consequences he could face if he were to be caught. He took fascination of the mechanics of time pieces he saw in the shops around the market and his interest was noticed by and old clock-maker by the name of Morren. Tagg was offered a job as an apprentice and without a moments thought he accepted. The pay was minimal but he had the willingness, almost a need, to learn everything Morren had to teach him. He was given his first clock to repair all on his own at the age of 10, Morren trusted him enough and allowed him to work unsupervised while he ran the shop. By the end of the day, Tagg had disassembled, analyzed, cleaned, and reassembled the clock with new working parts. Tagg's ability to retain information was almost incomparable and he spent most of his time repairing old clocks, giving them new life and finding ways to improve on the original designs. He even spent his spare time in constructing new devices with practical uses. Within a few months he designed, built and installed an automatic lock on the front door of his house. Tagg was living a pretty good life; he loved his work, he made his parents proud and helped support his family. Little did he know, his life would soon take a terrible, frightening turn.
In the middle of one night, a loud scream awoke everyone in the house. Four doors down there was loud yelling and flames could be seen erupting from the windows. Suddenly the next house was erupted into flames, a child wailing, a woman screaming, then silence. Two shadowy figures ran outside, cackling madly as the house was engulfed in fire. Tagg's father rushed and gathered his wife and child in an attempt to flee, but was not fast enough. Young Tagg witnessed the brutal slaughter of his parents and narrowly escaped with two large cuts running from the corners of his mouth to his ears. He swam out into the ocean until he passed out from a mixture of shock, exhaustion, and searing pain. Washed ashore several miles from the coast, he was found by an old healer who called himself Rusk. Rusk took care of Tagg, teaching him and raising him until he felt Tagg was fully recovered and ready to go out on his own. At age 16, Tagg made it his goal to travel to the middle district and look for steady work. It was there he intended to start his new life...

Other Info: Prefers stealth, blades and contraptions to take down opponents. Currently works as an engineer which also serves as a front for his freelance smuggling operations as well as the occasional merc work. Requests for assassinations aren't rare, and he is the middle-man in the transactions. Upon payment an employer is asked to meet with one of the assassins (the assassins are actually personas that Tagg creates to hide his identity as the one who is carrying out the assassinations) to discuss the details.

Abilities: Some time after receiving the disfiguring cuts an old healer teaches him that through unbroken meditation and sheer force of will, one can heal most physical wounds as well as one's state of mind. Tagg learned this ability and learned it quickly, with determination and time he took it even further. He discovered that he could change his physical features, within a few hours' time he could become a completely different person. At least for a while, and only his facial features were altered. It took at least a day or two in order to noticeably alter his stature. Even today he's still discovering new limits with every change, increasing in speed and duration. However he has not perfected this ability and it is not completely without fault. This ability has proven very useful in giving him many opportunities for work and has aided him in keeping out of trouble. He avoids becoming a nuisance in order to maintain a low profile and has never shown his true self in the presence of employers for security.

Now the ability? Was he born with it? B/c abilites are traits you're born with not taught. Also abilities are unique to that person.

I have indeed, but there is still much to be done and the constant toll of work and life in general. I'm afraid you'll have to count me out for the time being.

Let's say he was born with it but the healer helped him discover his ability. I got a piece of back story that can explain how he got the ability (inherited from his father).

This maybe confusing but, abilites are unique to every person. Meaning that your character has an ability no one else has. While you're born with your ability, you don't inherit it. You just have it from birth.

Alright, I see, sorry about my confusion. I had a bunch of ideas in the air and I just chose one out of haste. So, could he have been born with it and the old healer saw the potential he had and helped him discover his ability?

Yes. Sorry for the confusion. I still need to learn how to explain things better.

No worries, I shall take the blame, I simply misunderstood. Thanks for clearing that up, now I can get started on posting. :D
