Since when was DMC ever about killing stuff with one attack? That just isn't stylish! Also, for the people saying Nero has no stylish moves, mixing the busters, snatches, sword attacks, and instant revs, and exceeds create some incredibly stylish combos.

Also, Vergil WAS in DMC4...I though that was obvious =/
On the Vergil front, if you're referring to the shadow of Nelo Angelo that appears when you enter DT as Nero, I'm not sure that counts as a proper appearance... :p

It's not Virgil without a big blue coat and spiky hair.
Well he kind of can't have a proper appearence, being dead and all...

but ya...I don't know how anyone could miss those obvious hints.

The arm resembling Nelo Angelo, it saying that it "wanted power, more power", the DT resembling Nero, Vergil's DT, and Nelo Angelo..

While Nero wasn't too great a character he did have some awesome moments. And frankly I almost preferred playing as him to Dante in 4. From what I understand 4 is supposed to take place between 1 and 2, yet Dante has the personality of his 20 year old self from 3. Hated it, hated it hated it.
Get over it, get over it, get over it.
But for the hell of it, let's address that. How is his personality "mature" and what-not in the first one?
I think we're looking at the intelligence angle here. In 3 his lines were all smart-ass insults and jokes at his enemies. In 1 he at least had some serious dialogue which doesn't appear in 3 until the final scenes.
Dante in 4 was just ridiculously cheesy. The scene where he gets Lucifer almost made me turn off the game.

In the first one he comes across as self confident rather than just cocky and arrogant. I don't mind the arrogance, it worked well in 3, but 4 it just feels like as Lt_Bromhead said they were trying to cash in on the cocky Dante. And even by the end of 3 we see his character development as he begins to take his missions far more seriously and takes on an air of responsibility whereas in 4 he just jumps back almost two games worth of maturity.

From best to worst:

DMC, DMC2, DMC4, DMC3.

That just my way, though.
I would be interested to know what you disliked about the third one?
Sorry, had it reversed. It should be the other way around.
Ah, fair play. SO why didn't you like the first one? :p

And one fells the need to be stripperiffic to get our attention and have us play the fucking thing, the other is just pure unfiltered badass.
Although the character did shout MARKETING and FANSERVICE the game stands on its own without needing it, and is actually superior in every aspect to DMC IN MY OPINION, as well as some others like the guy I quoted. People should look at the game for its own merits instead of by the cover :)

And while DMC's cover shouts badass, the character is more of a Special Agent Jerkoff from Homoland Security, winner of the Biggest douche in the Universe award.

Bringing your dark soul light.

That...well that says a lot. That and the horrific camera angles that murdered the game experience for me. So DMC 1 is at my bottom. DMC 2 is just as bad, but at least it gave rise to the spectacle that is DMC 3 and 4.

Therefore my opinion is (in best to worst) DMC4, DMC3, DMC2, DMC1

Woot, internet high five for me.

But ya, personally I like Nero, he's like a middle ground between the game mains.

Dante(witty, go-luck) - - Nero (smartass, but also serious and emotional) - - Vergil (serious, and determinded)

He has tons of combo potential. Dante has his style switching and the different weapons to mix up his game plan. Nero has his ability to pull enemies to him with snatch, his sword attacks, and his ex-attacks and instant revs, plus busters.

I also don't believe DMC4 was dumbed down that much, they added more attacks and they also improved Dante's game. All they did was slow it down a bit from DMC3, its still all together fluid though.

Also about other stuff...I like Dante's cheesyness...he's (pun unintended)devil may care now. He was a smartass in 3, he gets a bit more professional at the end, but still arrogant. DMC1 happens and now he has killed the strongest demon known. Wouldn't you be cocky if you were pretty much, the strongest thing alive?

It's not that I didn't like it, I just preferred the others. I liked the first one the least, but I still liked it a lot, if that makes any sense.

My List from Good to Bad:

DMC 3 was the greatest of the lot, different styles for different playthroughs, and when they threw Vergil in i was hooked

DMC was the basic game that started it all, snappy fighting, impossible boss fights, the cocky hero is was just the best start for any series

DMC4 could of been great, if they only chose one chracter to be the hero, and the chick( the one your trying to save) died at the beginning

DMC2 this one i did enjoy but it felt a little to easy compared to one, and Dante wasnt as cocky, combat was a bit sluggish, it just didnt follow the masterpiece that the first one was

Word - I don't think Devil May Cry 2 was a bad game. It just had to follow on from pure awesome.

my listing goes, best to worst
3,1,4,2

3 took every thing that made DMC a hit to begin with and refined it to a mirror finish, and brought back functions and unlockables from 1 an 2, (super characters and a much improved Bloody Place) in the SE, only thing i didn't like about the SE, is they 'fixed' the difficulty, pre SE, DMC3's normal was actually the hard setting, shoulda left it be imo

1 set the standard and paved the way for games like Ninja Gaiden and God of War, (though nether are as good for numerous reasons i won't go into here)by establishing a third person fighting system that works, in part like a fighting game, and brought us the epic win of the Devil Trigger as well as being the first good 3D Castlevania, even it it was still borrowing a lot from RE.

4 fucked up with the Nero/Dante switch, they shoulda had their own campaigns,(like in DMC 2) and a fucked up on the story, its not so good even by DMC standards, since its mostly about Nero saving his 'princess peach' useless girlfriend, and fucked up again with the dice game, which thankfully Dante was quick to do what i was i coulda done with Nero and the level repetition was, annoying in bits

DMC 2, the biggest problem i think this game had, is DMC 1, they tryed to hard to make another hit an some things fell flat, like Dante's personality, i actually enjoy playing as Lucia more, her story was more interesting to, the over arcing story was pretty meh to, but bitching about story in a DMC game is almost pointless since, lets face it, we're not playing it to see the next epic tale be laid out before, we're there to beat some ass, and look like absolute bad asses doing it, to bad the combat fell flat in DMS 2 as well, just felt off, which is why i rate it lower then 4, cause while Nero is a whinny pussy whipped *****, the Devil Bringer is fun to play with at least, where as there was no real difference between Dante an Lucia game play wise

also, quit note on the ladys of DMC,
Trish, Awesome, got it right the first time.
Lucia, probably the best part of DMC2 really, and nice little plot twist with her, and, red head :3 like red heads XD.
Lady, never really like her much, spent to much time being a ***** when it was pretty clear she an Dante where after the same thing

And yes, Metal gear Rising is ripping off Metal gear solid and both Warcraft and starcraft ripped off Warhammer
fixed it for ya :p

Well at least DMC2 added some awesome stuff to the series, such as Bloody Palace, Twosome Time, Fireworks and some other stuff.

I'll give you bloody palace etc. But like I said, it wasn't bad - just not as good.
