Dear God I read the article and I'm like, I hope the author aint a psychic because everything else he has said apart from the predictions is completely true. All 3 of the big name consoles have their gimmicky motion sensing NO CONTROLLER NEEDED FOR GAMING devices, all the E3 presentations focused more on kitten petting simulators and Cirque du Soleil then the f'ing games, with all the shitty fps sequals hogging the spotlight(Ok first off may as well call them XPS seeing as there are a steady increase of third person shooters aswell, and the word F/TPS and shitty are not synonymous I just don't think games like Halo should be compared to games like Portal)

With the way things are going their are only three possible places gaming can go:
1.The whole new generations of consoles are complete failures and PC technology advances so well that it is dirt cheap and effective so PC reigns supreme.
2.The video game market crashes because as all gimmicks go, they get mass exposure at first then die down, ofcourse the sudden explosion of popularity the new gen consoles get means all development is focused on motion sensoring and in 2 years when people become bored out their fucking mind playing "Move:pro Masturbater" the gaming market collapses and like how the 1984 crash warned people not to pump out shitty Shovelware faster then people will eat it up, Motion Control is deemed a failure and won't be attempted until the technology is 100% capable, and games get treated as art instead of kids toys
3.Sadly equally as likely as the above, either video gaming will flat out die or motion censoring becomes the fucking norm and in the future all games will be MMO's in cyberspace because we all know the future can't get any less shitty until we have to siphon our food out of other peoples anuses(unless you like that sort of thing)

Yeah, saw that at cracked myself. Some hyperbole in it obviously, but also uncomfortably true. Far too many shallow gimmicks and derivative sequels going around the gaming industry at the moment.

I don't actually agree with him. Just because the big three are going at it with motion controlls, doesn't mean the industry is going down. As long as there are third-party publishers, we will be safe.

So far, E3 has given me 6 new games to look forward too. I think that's even more than last year's E3.

4. Gaming mostly continues as it has been, but now there's more casual players. And when you go to gamestop, there's more games on the shelf you can ignore just from the cover art/title. AAA games will tend to be carbon copies of each other, and graphics will surpass the resolution of reality.

Even if motion control produces shovelware, it's still more interesting than what most publishers would show if they focused on the games. At least natal (or whatever it's called now) involves something new. Why show off your 3 new God of War clones and 4 new WWII FPS games when you could instead show us something we haven't seen before. If you want real creativity and innovation in games, look to the indie crowd (who don't get to go to E3).

Yeah but I expect one of the three to be completely focused on just their motion sensing gimmick, they can't possible invent a whole new technology just for on the side once in a while games, they'd have to take full fucking advantage of it or they'd be wasting their time. They'll soon be forcing third party developers to include motion control etc in their games or they won't market them, the fact they've even released 'traditional' games(dear god can you imagine that, calling games not 2 years old traditional) is probably to ween the console players to motion control. They can't just make a big jump or else they'll risk not having a large enough consumer base who isn't ready at the beginning and faceplanting a the get go,which is what sony did)

Btw your avatar is awesome

I'll leave my full opinion of E3 after I see all of the conferences.

I'm still hopeful for Sony 'cause I heard there was going to be a Sly Cooper Collection! OHMIGOD, and if the ICO Collection is true, consider me one messy happy gamer!

What really hurts is I feel let down who brought these companies to the positions where they could expand into the mainstream? Who invested the time, feedback and money that they could develop these new technologies on who did they build their reputiation? It's like they have found a new lucrative market and this is now the focus, we are no longer the mainstream we are delegated to side bets, pocket change by comparisson to the gimmick crowd.

Our reward for fueling the industry? Operation 10 dollar, DRM, and movment controls whoopdie fucking do. Yes I'm probably overreacting but it's getting to be abit too much.

A serious letdown all around and if this is the new direction gaming is heading I welcome another market crash with open arms, I think I'll go fire up xenogears and melt into it until Nintendo/Sonys conferences and drink.

They aren't innovating in games, they're innovating in technology. Patting a kitten is not innovating, I'd say we are taking gaming back further then it's ever been. We need to focus on the software, not the hardware, escalate games so high up crysis(or insert whichever game is your favorite here) will look like Pacman does now in 5 years.(Ok for the crysis example, some Hardware upgrades will be required)

That's why I support actually good games that people don't seem to notice because all they care about is graphics and violence.

I'm waiting on games like Armored Core 5, which is the only original game coming out these days IMO. No space marines, no stupid western GTA rehashes, no pointless sexual agendas. Just pure game.

I think Microsoft and Sony realized what Nintendo did with the Wii was pretty innovated, but had not so good games, so they decided to make an add on so they could become rich..er. I think both Kinect and Move are pointless wastes of technology. They need to focus on hardware issues than something that another company revolutionized. This is why the PC is superior. No silly motion controls.

Don't be silly guise, the game industry died as soon as someone thought it would be cool to emulate Halo. I'll be making love to my ps2 if anyone needs me.

Man all the time I hoped for gaming to go mainstream has bit me in the ass.
As well it should.

You want gaming to go mainstream, you should be preapred for the consequences.
