Well what do you all expect?

Microsoft and Sony aren't game companies. They're larger, worldwide, electronics companies with video game divisions. As worldwide companies, they need to appeal to everyone. That means getting games that appeal to everyone. This is what everyone gets for putting their faith in these companies.

The last console for gamers was the Dreamcast. Nowadays consoles are multimedia devices that just happen to play games.

HOLY SHIT!

I've been looking for one of those!

That article was purely the death of MS. They tried to show off all this Natal crap last year and failed that time too.

I'm hoping Sony will do better with Move. It'll be gimmicky surely but at the very least not as embarrassing.

They aren't innovating in games, they're innovating in technology. Patting a kitten is not innovating, I'd say we are taking gaming back further then it's ever been. We need to focus on the software, not the hardware, escalate games so high up crysis(or insert whichever game is your favorite here) will look like Pacman does now in 5 years.(Ok for the crysis example, some Hardware upgrades will be required)
Are you talking about graphics or gameplay? Focus on graphics is pointless. Give me a fun original game with crap graphics over a boring but pretty game any day. And yeah, it might be new hardware (so really credit goes to sony/microsoft), but it's hardware that creates new gameplay.

Also, all that said, I really expect Move and Kinect to not do as well as Sony and Microsoft expect.

I always say that motion control is silly and no 'core' (read: proper or good) games will make use of it because quite frankly it's annoying and handling anything accurately or without it being tiresome is impossible (or has been impossible so far).

I agree. The motion control thing isn't fun. Until they release a new Rayman Raving Rabbids game like the very first one.

But I wonder... In the future will Kineckt have a dating sim compatible with that online-dating/game service for gamers?

Uh, I have a ps2 an xbox and I only got them last year, so possibly the new gimmick thing doen't apply to me. As for the suggestion that people have been happy with the same kind of film; no, just no. Silent, talkies, colour, 3d and these are just the obvious changes. What about all the improvements in editing and special effects and how it is viewed.
As for the idea that people get bored with one type of console; there are still many people playing older systems (I have FFVII and FFIX on my ps2) and plenty of people still reviewing it; AVGN, Playitbogart, Irategamer etc.
PC Gaming and console gaming is built on a back catalogue of fantastic games. The urge for self-improvement is because of the companies, not the gamers, also known as the console wars. These "wars" are designe to make the consumers pick a side and support it (as with so many products). Personally I favour sony, but I still own an xbox.
As for the way the controllers look so similar; have you not noticed how similar the mouse on an atari st looks to a pc, or how a ps2 constroller is similar to an xbox controller.
The gaming idustry won't die, one company will simply have to consolidate with another (as happened with sega).

By the way these comment are leveled at David Wong not slowpoke999 (btw that's a slowbro).

Every time anyone tries ANYTHING new in the mainstream, it's declared to be "THE DEATHZORS OF GAMING LAWLZ!" Get over it, nothing will really kill it - it's an industry in the billions of dollars.

If you buy six now, I'll also throw in a cassette player, which is making a comeback.
Awesome!

Lets see, its asking for my credit card number, social security number, PIN number, and my mothers maiden name...

But who cares! I can rewind my DVD's!

I'm talking experience(the experiencing something experience, nothing to do with experience points)so basically graphics and gameplay, while cutting out the padding and repetition that have seeped into gaming.

No no, signs that the game industry is dying is when the PC games have motion control system and steam is taken off line. No, not happy about all three heavy hitters now having motion controls but I still hold to the hope that they learn their lesson by the next generation of consuls. Maybe we can get our controls back and kick our mothers off our gaming systems.

I'll believe the sky is falling when it actually hits my head. Until then, I'm just going to work my way through Alan Wake, Splinter Cell Conviction and ModNation Racers. And hope that kills some time before Fallout New Vegas, Halo Reach, I am Alive, The Last Guardian and Crackdown 2 come out.

I'll also be lusting after Metroid Other M, but until I pick up a Wii, that will be one I have to wait on.

There are far too many games in the pipeline I really want to play for me to be worried about the end of gaming as I know it.

Sorry, but I've learned to never take any prediction/fear of "dead" or "ruined forever!" seriously. I'm pretty sure video games were supposed to collapse several times already. Maybe that shoudl be the next post-apocalyptic game, one set after the end of the video game industry.

OP: You're avatar is a Slowbro but you're username is Slowpoke. Did you evolve recently?

Yes. The gaming industry is going to burst into flames and all will be consumed by the orgy of fire.

We need to get used to the idea that E3 isn't aimed at us, and it isn't aimed at casuals as they won't be watching anywya. It's aimed at shareholders.

Also, I'll give all this information to my friend, who is a Nigerian prince. If you give him 100 dollars, he'll repay you with a thousand.
Hm... what could possibly go wrong!

The same shareholders that fund the games we play.
But yeah, E3 is a trade show. Its not for gamers at all. We have assloads of other conventions and events for that.
