I got a few cheap laughs from that site, as well as some introduction to hentai that I wish I could erase from my mind. The site was inflammatory, capricious, disgusting and increadibly fucking stupid, but I did derive a few lulz from it as it were. Really though, to complain about the site/particular article being offensive is like walking into a room thats on fire then complaining its too hot. At any rate, I'm not too bothered abouts demise their are plenty of other sites out there that dont feel the need to burn my retinas.

I just can't understand why the creators of the site changed their Shock Value website into a ripoff of know-your-meme. The reason people went to ED was because it was offensive. It was the purest form of expression: Write whatever the fuck you want and be an asshole.

I reckon the guy who runs the site got married or had kids or something, and decided to change his ways in case some lolcows decide it'd be funny to troll him/ his wife/whatever.

What pisses me off is that most people go there once, probably cos someone told them to see the offended or kittens pages, and they just think that the whole site is like that. I was the same, but once I started reading some of the other stuff, I laughed my balls off.

So long ED, you will be missed.

But I agree, the lot managing the site are a bunch of sick fuckers.

I miss the site. It was an archive of unbridled insanity, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Yeah is was gross, disturbing, offensive, and tasteless but it was effective with its delivery of humor.

Even a week later, I'm still shocked at the overnight annihilation of the site and the rebirth as Oh Internet. For all the disgusting and disturbing shit that was on ED, it was a cornerstone of internet culture. The shock and awe articles were intended to provoke, and the new site just seems to be giving into being just another meme wiki.

As sick and gross as Encyclopedia Dramatica was, I am sad to see it go, and I truly hope that someone archived it on their own before it was destroyed.

I too miss ED. It was funny in the way that a really angry rant at something you also don't like is funny. Cathartic, stupid anger aimed at everyone and everything. If you personally were offended by it, then either you missed the point or you're playing into the creator's hands. It was entirely immature, disgusting and full of pointless rubbish, but that's what made it great.

killing ED has created splinter sites that are fighting for the place that it once held as the singular repository of the darkest and most disgusting fantasies of mankind.... a shock site unlike any other.

i never really participated in the whole chan sub culture, but it entertained me because of its, somewhat anarchistic and exotic nature. truly a cathartic ... ah screw it i have no rational explanation for why i loved ED i just did, and i was so soo sad and butthurt when i found out it was gone
