I scored an 8.

I do admit I get down in the dumps from time to time, but worrying about things like that will just fuck you up even more. Its better to look forward.

Who is advocating accepting the results of the quiz in lieu of professional consultation?

And of course the test is going to recommend immediate help if someone answers purely with extremes. It would be ethically irresponsible to do otherwise.
Whoops, sorry, I guess I didn't make my angry, irrational apoplexy at everything clear enough.
JUST BITCHING. DON'T TAKE MY EVERY WORD LITERALLY.

Listen up, the rest of The Escapist, this is for you too!

I am noting patterns. People will either feel strongly or not at all with these emotionless tick-the-box quizzes.
The problem with them is that most people don't honestly weigh up and think "hmm gee just how okay would I be with being mauled by an angry bear made of bees". They either think "I would dislike that a lot" or "that would tickle me inappropriately".

Basically, the majority of people who take this quiz - because the only reason they would seek it out and take it is if they were a little down in the dumps - are going to get told that OMFG THEY NEED HELP RITE NAO!!!!!! regardless of whether or not they do.
I get that people should seek help if they need help, but surely you can see the harm in a bunch of people who don't need help thinking they do and taking up the time of the people who can provide it.

None of that made sense, did it. Whatever. I am so fucking exhausted.
It made some sense but there is a ton of emotion mixed in there, hard to read that on the internet. So just in case I am going to have to take the saftey off.

I do agree that these tests are very easy to mis use and end up an an extreme end. Also if i mis read your post please correct me after you get some rest, rest is more important than correcting someone on the internet.

We need to find a set of these tests and see if they line up :)

I scored a 41 on this test. Funny how this website seems to attract lots of depressed, angry, and in general, bitter gamers.

Unless the quiz is a parody, most of the tests ought to be fairly similar. For the most part, they just follow the DSM-IV guidelines for major depression (or whichever condition) and add options to try to gauge severity/ likelihood.

I know these things are always crap but I did it for a laugh - I got a score of 8 and a note saying I'm 'having suicidal thoughts', which I'm not.

"People who spend a lot of time browsing the Internet are more likely to show depressive symptoms, according to the first large-scale study of its kind in the West by University of Leeds psychologists."

Edit: There is a link to the original study at the end of the article.

47. That is an awesome number. Kudos for reference.

Test seems a bit alarmist to say the least. I know I have issues, but I know what depression is and I'm not depressed right now.

Either ways, worrying about being depressed seems rather silly to me. Generally speaking, if you have enough mental leeway to worry about being depressed, you're not depressed. Not really.

74! I am king of being depressed.

Also I love how one of the questions was do you feel depressed.
Yeah, I found it rather awkward too.

"Well now, that's what we're trying to assess isn't it?".

Hmmm. Not feeling particularly bad right now, but I can still see where this test is going.

Certainly, when I was depressed, a lot of these applied.

I go in and out of mild depression all the time. It's just something I've learned to live with to be honest.

The periods where it's been really severe? Well, there isn't much that helps in my experience, so I just suffered through it as best I could.

I take pills that's the doctor said would make me less depressed every day.
(I don't take the pills because I'm depressed only because I have to)
And I still got 24 on the test.

I'm not sure this is a very good test...

Yes but adding more questions or altering the langauge can alter the results as people may answer in different ways.
