The option of being able to wield spear and shield, rather than just spear. If the spears were shorter than the ones in Morrowind, it would not have to be a 2 handed weapon, and you wouldn't be giving up much range.

More ranged weapons, I.E. throwing daggers/stars, javelins, crossbows, etc. Bows are good and all, but when you can one shot someone just by putting their head under the center of the crosshairs in stealth, it kinda starts to get boring... I stopped using ranged when my sneak hit 80, just because i could walk up on someone and walk into them for 5 minutes before they started to wonder what was pushing them off the cliff.

Mounted combat. nuff said.

The ability to forge your own armor would just be bitchin. I dont mean being able to fix it when it breaks, I mean being able to find a lump of Iron, steel, or whatever, and making a set of armor out of it to your specifications, with the armor becoming stronger as you level the skill up. Same for weapons. For example, in Oblivion, i would have liked to have a longsword with the same blade shape as the elven shortsword, rather than the clubbish elven longsword.

That shoud be good enough for now, but im sure ill think of something later.

Seeing as there is already 20 pages when I started typing this, im not going to bother and read them all, im just going to say I what think should be done, whether others have said it or not.

-New leveling system: Both Morrowind and Oblivion used the same system, of uping you main skills and level up, and like someone on the first page said, if you dont do the math (or if you do), you end up either a pwned pile of rotting flesh in a gutter or the new god of Tamriel. Bethesda used a standard leveling system in FO3 (gain experience by doing things and level up), and there are mods that change the leveling system for Oblivion, so why cant Bethesda put two and two together and change the system? If TES5 has the same leveling system as the previous two, im going to buy it once I know theres a mod to change it, and not before.

-New weapons and fighting abilities: I want some new weapons, not just Sowrd, Mace, Axe in both one and two handed varieties. I want spears, Crossbows, some crazy shit like this:
Hell, I would like to see some kind of Dwemer (is that spelled right?) firearm, like a breach loading flint or wheel-lock rifle (but only if there was a way to fit it in to the game, without causing a 1-3 hundred year jump in time to allow it.) Also, I would like actual duel wielding, without mods, and maybe the ability to make your character left or right handed, or atleast allow me to put a sword in their left hand a shield in their right (no, I didnt try to make a Link character, but *IF* I wanted to, I would like the option to make it as close as possible.)

Addition to above: I would also to see the ability to commision a blacksmith to make you a personalized weapon like a sword, which is stronger and last almost 5x longer than the mass produced swords you can buy at vendors. You can chhose the style of the blade, hand guard, hilt, girp design, and pommel, and can name it. I would also like to see special NPS with their own unique swords, which after they are dead, you can take and desplay as a trophy or present to a person to prove said NPC is dead. The same could go for armer as well. And the custom made weapons and armor will always be more expensive, yet of extremely higher quality that the mass-produced weapons and armor.
And I would also like to see weapons break from use, and look actually broken.

-Magic spells overhaul: Why do I need to purchase a new fireball or iceball spell when I level up enough that the originals are of no use? Why cant I learn the spells and as I level up, they level up as well? Just think about that... as that really my only gripe in this department...

-Fast Travel: I like the fast travel system, it made it easy... almost too easy. I would like the FT system reworked so it only allows travel to cities and towns, and not to the various ruins and tombs.

Thats all I had ATM...

I JUST WANT IT TO COME OUT ALREADY!

ut seriously:

more importance to the speechcraft, mercantile, and other less used skills
some new skills
new races to choose from(if any left)
better graphics(of course)
maybe a merchants guild
more weapons
same level of open world exploration or bigger
multi-province traveling
an online component
no level cap
more balanced NPCs
better economic system
traveling companions!
large scale battles
bigger impact of good/evil decisions

so much could be done with this game I could go on for hours about how to improve upon Oblivion...

This treat was from two years ago, so that says something.
OT: I only want to see one improvment.

BRING SPEARS BACK!

Morrowind had spears and in oblivion they just cutted man's made first weapon out.
Seriosly if this game will be released I will faint.

Anyways, in response to Exterminatus - I honestly wouldn't buy Oblivion if they did away with fast traveling all together, because they'd either have to make the world way smaller, or just leave it as is, thus making it nearly impossible to get around the world.
On my latest playthrough of Oblivion I haven't been using fast travel at all, I actually find it to be a more enjoyable experience than just fast travelling everywhere and the only time it causes me trouble is when my bags are full but if they put some kind of saddlebags on horses I think that could be easily sorted out.

I think fast travel should only be available from cities so you can hire a wagon to take to your location, perhaps even have it only available for locations on the main road too so if you have to leave the beaten track you must do the adventuring for yourself.

I think the most important thing they need to change is the combat system, it gets stale fast as it is.

Ok, I'm not an Elder Scrolls fan, I will never be a fan of humungus fields full of RPG quests and trolls that always take the same level as you are.

Yes, I'm one of those who doesn't like the levelling system.

But I think most would agree with me that pausing the game to change a single spell is disturbing and tedious. It's not like you can't do it because someone is close by, watching you so you can't even eat while feeling comfortable. But a short key or a list of your spells would be nice.

You can hardly arrange them properly, it's ranged, passive and whatnot. While I always look in the most obvious catagories: Illusion, Destruction, Mystic and so forth.

Oh my...
It's obviously a potshot at Fallout 3. "Oblivion with guns", remember?
Use head before applying facepalm to it.

I like the cut of this monopoly guy's jib. And I sincerely doubt ES5 will satisfy my RPG needs.
But I'll approach the topic constructively:

- Get rid of the goddamn level scaling. Randomize as little as possible. I'm not saying that particular Bow Of Moar Dakka should be in that same chest every time, but if it's not, then don't put a wooden spoon and some dirty non-magical underpants in there. Well, maybe once. As a joke. But make the underpants magical then.

- I'm fine with a map, but not with a compass. Make players navigate by landmarks, constellations, the moss on trees, the flight of birds, the direction of travelling caravans, etc. Make us explore. Bringing us to the following point:

- Get rid of fast travel. Some sort of "travel service" for a small fee would be fine. Something like the stilt riders, and/or maybe travelling caravans. They'd travel to towns, but outside of those towns, the player is left to his own devices.

- Make us want to explore. Put lots and lots of weird stuff in there, and don't copy paste it.

- In fact, block your publisher's phone number and work ten years on the damn thing.

None of this is gonna happen though. Those days are over.

I think about everyone just about covered what we need in the 5th one, but what they also need is easier house customization. I would spend hours alone using Telekineisis to decorate bookshelves and tables with my books, armour, weapons, etc. It looked beyond awesome, but it can get rather frusterating after a while. It should be as hardcore as the Sims, but at least make it where I could deck out my palace without having to delicately place a cup or pot or something without it flipping upside down or spazing.

Also, make throwing things at people with Telekineiesis do damage!!! It would be awesome to throw a shield at someone and get it impaled in the attackers' neck! :D

I enjoyed oblivion but all the single playering got old, it was best when you were leading a squad against large numbers of enemies, eg: Kvatch etc

Oblivion NEEDS WARS! imagine a huge siege on a fortress with 30+ units on each side (+ limited spawning) where you can attack it or defend it eg: by operating a catapult to damage the structure (scenery destruction) before ordering a charge into the breach or getting a bow and firing through arrow slits to whittle away the attackers or pouring boiling oil down onto the enemy and depending on who wins each war the storyline branches off differently. I know that so many units would take a lot of processing power but it would be worth it, imagine leading an army to reclaim the collapsing province of Tamriel, IT WOULD BE AWESOME!!!
That sounds good enough to be a game on its own
It is a game of it's own. It is called Mount & Blade XD

1) Don't spend the whole voice actor casting budget on one person. Yes, it was amazing to see Patrick Stewart as my king. But do I want another game with three minutes of him and a few thousand hours of the other five voice actors in the game? Hell to the no.

2) I honestly don't think the graphics need improved at all.

3) If they keep the same leveling system, how about a way to see which attributes will be getting what bonuses come level up time? I know that that would make stat building much easier for me.

4) Do not do instantaneous travel! It sucks the fun out of everything and it's too easy to fall back on using it to get things going faster. How about fast travel just puts you on the road to where you're going, but you don't have to bother controlling your mount? You just hang out watching the computer travel for you, until you pass a troll who wants to eat you. Then you'll need to get off, kill it, then get back on, and presumably hit a button to make automated travel resume.

5) Setting the game in Summerset Isle would be cool (I tend to play High Elf mages), but an even better setting would be (pause for dramatic effect) Akavir. Seriously, how could would it be? A few hundred years after Oblivion the Empire is at peace. Now, seeking to find any sources of possible unrest from without or within, the player is sent into Akavir on a diplomatic mission. You're to go in and get the heads of the four countries of Akavir to sign treaties agreeing to long standing peace between the Empire and themselves. And if that fails, you can choose to do espionage and kill their countries from within.

This would be an awesome opportunity to see the Akaviri races' life and cultures! The world would be huge, the cultures would be new, the weapons would be unique and different for each country (so you could have several tiers of weapons designed to fight specific opponents based on that country's style of war)....

OK that got to be sort of rambling. But seriously, how awesome would Akavir be?
