"mmm yes good riddance I say. Such ruffians should never have been around in my day. yes yes. What. what."
despite what they said, they didn't really "join forces". Probably some influential AnonOps members or something. AnonOps and other related Anonymous-like organizations are only branches of the overarching umbrella that is Anonymous.emeraldrafael said:I know, but they joined forces, so I was hoping they would both go. Anyway, yeah, glad they left. Citibank is still pissed at their antics, as are there users.
Alright folks, let's put this puppy to bed:Actual said:I hate living with the knowledge that our governments want nothing more than to to control the flow of information.
Read the rant with enjoyment and sympathy. Read the closing remark with a giggly splutter of tea and have no idea why. The sole reason I'm not a member of the (alarmingly) growing masses of "Anti-Sec" (Note: People, better names, PLEASE) hackers is because while there are many powerful people that would love nothing more then to control information, the set-up of the internet will never allow that to happen unless it is taken down for good. Now how many powerful people would really want to be responsible for the downfall of modern society in many countries? We live in an age where everything is discovered, announced, and saturated within minutes of occurrence. Public outcry and participation in governmental action is the only real action that needs to be taken, outright attacks on installations "for the good of freedom" almost poops out the foot it eats, there IS a great deal of evil inherent in any system, but it can all be flushed out if we all work for a better tomorrow instead of letting others do it while we boot up another game/movie/song.
Now if you'll excuse me, my soapbox is on fire.
Question: How is attacking gamer networks to steal access information of everyday users, passwords (and possibly credit card info) and then posting it on the web for anyone to grab making the internet free and secure? I'd think that just makes web browsers/gamers afraid and just hands the reigns of control over to hackers rather than any imaginary, western, spooky shadow government you all keep going on about.Actual said:I think everyone who works with computers is sad to see them go. I hope the anti-sec movement continues through independent hackers. Perhaps eventually we'll be guaranteed a free and secure internet forever. I hate living with the knowledge that our governments want nothing more than to to control the flow of information.

How about attacking Chinese censorship? How about Russia, Australia, Singapore, f**king Iran or Syria to crusade against their tight government control of ALL communication and information? Oh that's right.. because that would be dangerous and our brave heroes can't be in danger from people who wouldn't just give them a slap on wrist if they get caught now can they?
This is another thing I don't get about the gamer/forum community.. you guys fawn over people who are out to humiliate, vandalize, and attack YOU. your networks, and any web related service or product you use with no reason other than "for teh lulz".
I take it you don't have a bank account, have never had your identity stolen, and your social/address/phone number or financial info about you or someone you know posted for others to do with as they wish?
Because that's the only reason i can think of as to why all these young people are cheering these assholes on. They're not helping in the passage of free information.
In fact, the people they went after (U.S and U.K) were pretty relaxed on internet information and web freedom.... now they've given even the most liberal governments an incentive to give the issue attention where is normally wouldn't have been discussed.
