Dear escapist mabye it's because i have never played the first mario games, but i think the mario games should stop. Every one of them are boring and repetive, they also always have a horrid story line-princess get captured go rescue her.

So my question to you is how come they keep making them and why do people alway's insist that there good games where there way more better and more original games out there that never get noticed. This also goes for sonic.

It's basically Nintendo doing the same thing that they're doing with Sonic. They're trying to milk every last penny from the cold, lifeless corpses of Sonic and Mario.

Haave you played the lastest installments from the actual Mario series. Other than the spin offs. Yea, they were fucking amazing

I respectfully disagree. They can get repetitive at times, but I find them very fun. I suppose it's just a matter of personal taste, though. And they keep making them because they make money for Nintendo, so why not?

Who died and made YOU ruler of the franchise?

I think the parents of the future need to make a point and stop popping out so many pretentious children.

Because the concept is familiar, so they can focus on fun. They don't have to have a phenomenal storyline, they don't need amazing graphics, they can go back to what makes them fun: something new, exciting, and bold. It might not always have the best appreciation, the best respect, but every one of the actual Mario games, hell, even some of the spinoffs, of the past few years has been phenomenal. Sure, they have their kinks, their bugs, but those are bugs that the game embraces, and turns them instead into challenges to overcome. Admittedly, the ones they're putting out next year might be a bit of a backstep, but they still look fun.

Plus, Mario makes bank. Why kill something that makes bank?

The problem with Nintendo is letting go. Most of their franchises just keep getting brought back. One worse than the other. I mean, hasn't anyone here noticed that when Nintendo makes a new franchise, the sales go through the roof? Remember how insanely popular the first Pokemon game was? Now when they make a new Pokemon game it's not a breath of fresh air, more like an old gamy, musky smell filling my nostrils. It's horrible. I would honestly run out and buy a Wii the minute they make something new and awesome. So far... it's not looking so good between me and my old friend Nintendo.

If you dislike a game, ignore it. I enjoyed about every Mario game produced. First, no story or characters in any game have ever mattered to me. Context is nice, but all games are fake and there are plenty of real things to care about. The aspects I enjoy most about Mario games are its simple controls, minimalistic story, and freedom of movement. The games present enemies which actually pose a threat and a layout of obstacles which require careful maneuvering. I spend much of my time exploring the set of stages, mastering the challenges it throws at you. I also like games with trial and error, which isn't popular in hardcore games.

I don't like Sonic games because they drastically need more fine tuning before. Sega is a bad publisher/developer in my book, Bayonetta may be a surprise, but I'm skeptical.

I hope I was able to give you good perspective. I could tell you what I hate in hardcore games but that would take a while.

To me, Mario has become a generic figure that appear in different kinds of games. Board games, racing, etc. I'd much rather play a mario board game than the exact board game but with new characters. It's something familiar in a new setting.

Though I guess that's easy for me to say that have only played a handful of the games.

I find it true that they can't really seem to deviate from the original "Dragon capture Princess" storyline, but I think the developers of Mario games and it's offshoots have noticed that, and therefore decide to deal with everything in between the dragon capturing the princess and the hero saving her.
In Super Mario Galaxy, for instance, we're given another princess who many would argue was essentially a palette swap with Peach. Sure, she was in looks, but she had a backstory! My God. Peach doesn't have a back story and if Mario does I don't bloody know what it is.
My point is that in Mario, the focus in creative value isn't on Mario. Or even peach. It's on everything else they can put in the game. In the RPGs, it's all of the interesting characters, bosses, and partners. In games that try to follow 64, it's about new mechanics for Mario to play with like a squirt gun or gravity. So I'm going to say that the Mario series won't die, and really shouldn't until they've completely run out of ideas (which, given Super Mario Galaxy 2, may be now).

Because they have like a gazillion people in Japan who still think that the Mario concept is funny and entertaining and that economic sustenance alone will keep Nintendo making Mario games all the way til armageddon...

They won't stop making Mario games because they know if they do, I will burn their buildings to the ground. Muhahahahaaa...

I like Mario games. They're a bit of mindless fun to play on the bus/train/long-car-trips/etc.

Mario, unlike Sonic, is still going strong.

However, if they're going to keep it going after Galaxy 2, that game better be pretty damn innovative.

Oh, keep in mind this is coming from a Mario fanatic.

I'm reminded very much of the "final fantasy needs to die" thread, I believe someone in there said "I hate X, X needs to die." seems like that's the conversational formula for all "controversial" debates for any time past, present or future.
