I say, stop making remakes althogether. Perhaps a SEQUEL, with NO PRINCESS and NO BOWSER and INNOVATIVE CHARACTERS and of course FLYING PIGS.
Because Super Mario Galaxy is exactly like the first one.

But seriously, I think you have no idea of how a franchise works. A franchise needs multiple recogniseable characters, and I am dumbstruck by the ignorance of your post.

Dear escapist
Firstly the Escapist isn't one person. Unless we are the equivalent of the Matrix, and I highly doubt it, you don't adress it as a single person.

knight steel said:
mabye it's because i have never played the first mario games
I don't see how not playing 20 year old games can affect your opinion of games today, but continue.

knight steel said:
but i think the mario games should stop
When you own a multi-million dollar franchise and the most successful video-game series ever I'll allow you to stop it.

knight steel said:
Every one of them are boring and repetive,
Ignoring the grammar, I fail to see how anyone can find them boring. Sorry, but you can't. Looking at Galaxy, every single planet is completely different. Yes, they are repetitive, but in the way that every level has the goal of grabbing a star, not in a way that means all the levels are the same.

knight steel said:
they also always have a horrid story line-princess get captured go rescue her.
If you play Mario for story you're doing it wrong. Seriously.

knight steel said:
So my question to you is how come they keep making them
Again, when you own a multi-million dollar franchise, you can answer me that question.

knight steel said:
why do people alway's insist that there good games where there way more better and more original games out there that never get noticed.
Perhaps the reason they don't get noticed is because they're poor. Seriously, if it's good, people will find out. And the reason they insist they're good games is because, well, they are. And original? How is Super Mario Galaxy not original? As I've previously said every planet is different, and it's perhaps the most original game I've played in a long time.

knight steel said:
This also goes for sonic.
I think this is just about all I agree with you on this.

knight steel said:
Disscuss and enjoy
I have, and await your reply. That said, I've noticed that you never bother to return to any thread you've made, so I guess this was pointless. Oh well.
Well said sir you have totally owned me and for that here's a free cookie.^_^

It's a tried and true formula. Why change something so successful? Just because you in particular don't like a game doesn't mean it should end.

Because cash cows are beautiful things!
Although I would like to see something new in the video games world, like a game about robots!... or maybe even aliens!

Well, I thought Mario Galaxy was an amazing, refreshing experience. It had incredible level designs that didn't make sense (nor did they need to) and a cast of bright, kooky characters. It sold itself on gameplay alone. It just shined through the grainy, post-apocolytic games that make up most of the market today.

The Super Mario series has in no way dipped in quality, sells well, and doesn't require a plot as much as a scenario/mission for the player to complete.

I must admit that even Sunshine was a quality game, despite that it wasn't in my taste.

EDIT:
Wait, why is this in Off-topic Discussion?

I want the series to die horribly. They should keep making Mario games. In fact Nintendo should speed up production so that they release several Mario games at one time, each one more samey than the last. Churning out more and more sequels and games until it all collapses in on itself. But then again I do like entropy and absurdity. So I say keep em coming Nintendo, lets see if you can turn a horse into dust particles.

The Super Mario platformer is probably the only Nintendo franchise that has any quality left.

If they cancel it they'll have nothing.

Rubbish. Super Mario Galaxy was the best 3D platformer I've played in many years and the Mario RPG's remain fantastic. Even the worst Mario sub-franchise and cash cow, Mario Party, still consists of well put together and entertaining games. The difference between Sonic and Mario is that the latter's games simply remain very fun and qualitative. There is simply no reason to stop the franchise.

I'm currently really anticipating Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2, because I can already tell they're going to be good games.

Mario shouldn't end, because I still find the games fun.

So there.

I would avoid putting just, "this" as your response, for future reference. I find the games fun as well, so I would keep playing them, as NeutralDrow said. More than likely, the developers will almost always find something new to put in Mario games. For example the New Super Mario Bros. coming out for Wii will have multiplayer on it.

Excellent breakdown, dude. I don't think I could have done better myself (except for the Sonic part).

I don't think so, so far Mario's main games have all been good. Even the much maligned Sunshine is better than 80% of the other platformers out there. If Mario platformers stop being consistently good (in the way Sonic games are consistently utter shit) then they should be stopped.

But at the moment they are still something to look forward too, if you can't enjoy the Mario games, perhaps platformers aren't for you.
They'll keep coming wihlst they keep selling.

I think Mario should at least have a plumbing and/or star related death before we announce the end.
