Caim bolted awake when he heard Calyso's voice in his mind. Giving a quick assurance to Angelus, thus putting her at ease again, Caim answered back, "Noble? Funny, I know some people would call me selfish for wanting those things. To tell you the truth, I'm not really sure if I want to wish them back. I don't know how they would react to coming back from death; and I don't know if I want to go back home. Would bringing back family and kingdom make the war I entered for nothing?[sub] As far as I know, the dead go in the arms of the Gods and are happy enough, but that depends upon whether or not I believe a lunatic priest.[/sub] Would the deaths I caused have been for nothing? Now, let me tell you, I don't usually think about the deaths I have caused, but... This world isn't terrible; and there's no carnivorous children floating around in the air. I don't mind living here; so long as no one shoots at Angelus."
Caim gave a small smile, "Now you can see why I'm thinking about giving up the wish.
Holding up a hand and counting off on his fingers, Caim continued, "I'm no optimist, but so far; things have been pretty good for me. I've got a faithful companion in Angelus, Cadolbolg, and these people; I usually get caught up in good fights for decent enough causes; and we can live without worrying about food. Aside from my family and a defunct kingdom; I couldn't really ask for much else..."
Caim paused for a moment, then hazarded the question,
"Speaking of the dragon, Calypso... Do you know if she wants anything? That is, if you promise not to tell her I asked."
