From what I've heard, they are specially awarded by the staff.

Do something to impress the staff, and may get a badge.

What about the 1up mushroom? Was that an Xmas gift?
I've got a thing for the 1up Icon. I'm not much for forum-anythings, but when there's the chance for earning that icon, I feel like I gotta make a grab for it. :D

Yes it was. And apparently a rare one. I've only seen about 2 other people with it. I love my mushroom!

EDIT: Although I would have loved a Weighted Companion Cube badge even more...

I hate to burst bubbles here, but all this is going to do is spawn more trolls and badge whores. The pony badge is just true randomness in its purest form. There is no one "Way" to get the pony badge. stop asking how to get the pony badge, your never going to find out how to get the pony badge. Its just there for shits n giggles. (I am in no way calling anyone specific a badge whore, but I believe wilson has said there won't be a badge list made by the site because it attracts the wrong kind of posters, no offence intended.)

Badges should simply be something fun, not the one and only reason you post here. I have one more thing to say............PONY PONY PONY!!! ZORT!

I think to get the pony badge you need to be an Escapist staff member.
The thanks! badge is surely for helping with something. What I haven't the slightest idea, but I am sure it was something that I had the chance to do, or to volunteer, or generally something I could have done but didn't and then I will feel bummed.

On Fire-create a topic with over 10,000 posts.
