I don't get it.

I've never read a Penny Arcade comic. And now it's put me off forever. Seriously, only 3 boxes?
What's wrong with just 3 boxes? Seriously it put you off because it only has 3 boxes? That is how you judge quality, buy quantity?
To be honest, I sometimes feel like they miss out on a bit of proper pausing or change of expressions with only 3 panels. It's like, someone's mood swings from ambivalent to furious in one panel, and they can only draw him with one expression in that panel. They can also never have panels in which no one says anything (to pause for effect)
Simply as a refutation: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2009/4/22/

Yeah, i actually didn't know about the attacks until todays comic as well. I was a little befuddled because i had been on the escapist prior to checking penny arcade. It was brushed over rather well by the escapist.

Almost like nothing happened.

So lets just say, nothing happened.

It's not bystander effect. This is more keeping your own neck attached to your own head. The Escapist did catch some heat awhile back, servers down, all that. Has there been more since? Or was this just Gabe and Tycho sympathizing with them (and us, in a sense), tipping their hats in respect to the Escapist openly covering all/most of the incidents, but still being glad it wasn't them being taken out for it?

I thought it was brilliant funny and insightful. And I don't want to bring on the wrath of hackers, but it reflects kind of exactly how I feel about the whole Lulzsec thing:
I don't think it's funny, it's kinda creepy with vibes of impeding free speech, but one does not bring it up in fear of being hacked oneself.

So many people are missing the point, it seems.

LulzSec hacked us because there was a thread attacking LulzSec. The Penny Arcade peeps are talking about how they should say something about the hackers, condemn them - then they see what happened to the last person that did that. Oops. No thanks, change of plan. Who're LulzSec again?

Pretty good, I like Penny Arcade, they often make some hilarious stuff.

Plus, they're charitable with their success, can't beat that.

I thought it was quite funny. There was also a truth to it as well, even though I must admit I wasn't that aware when Lulzsec hacked The escapist. I don't think I visited the site that day, but they did manage to get things back on track pretty sharpish.

I don't understand the comic.
Did we get in trouble for talking about hacks?
we got hacked for all of the negative views on lulzsec
I guess I was away. Was there a news release on it?
Lulzsec tweeted about it.

Scroll down a bit, we're on the list of their security attacks. We got hacked because so many people here were complaining about Lulzsec. So they DDoS'd the site.

OT: That made me laugh.

Yeah, I saw it already, it's on my feeder. It was funny. One of my favourite (don't really like PA).
Discussion value?

We got DDoS'd because it was a request on Titanic Takedown Tuesday. That entire day and every single attack was devoted to caller DDoS requests.

The mindless shit spread here about LulzSec was the icing on the cake though, that's what made it ultimately sweet for them.

OT: I guess it was funny, although I've seen better. It comes across as one of those political cartoons in newspapers that only pretentious people who don't actually understand what's happening laugh at.

They are afraid to stick up for The Escapist because that will make them a target. That's my takeaway.

Holy shit! I didn't know anything about this, thanks for letting me know though.

This explains a lot about the joke.

Escapist got DDos'd for a day and basically they're saying they feel like they should speak up, but aren't particularly going to. Fairly simple. Not their best comic, but meh, they're never all winners.
