OK, so I PM'd this to Inverse Skies the other day to make sure he knows I haven't forgotten my promise of Still Alive by Jonathan Coulton, and he recommended I put it here.
Note it is just a demo, the first verse is all I can play and sing at the same time as of this time. It is very difficult to play and sing at the same time XD
After this week, the exams I have been revising for will be over, so I can work on this again. I shall post the full thing when I'm done. Note that just playing, I have pretty much all of it done.
Please, tell me what you think of my singing and the style I am singing in for this performance.
I welcome any and all feedback =D
By the way it is very quiet. Turn up the speakers!
Sorry for not updating the thread, I've been in Bali for the week with some friends on holiday. Obviously I'm back now, but I'll update this thread in a few days because of the following sequence of events...
10:55pm Sat 30th Jan I flew out of Danpasar airport, 3:30am Sun 31st Jan I arrived in Darwin airport, 7:30am Sun 31st Jan I flew out of Darwin to Melbourne airport, and I have an 8am lecture tomorrow morning as the med school starts up once again. And I've had one hour of sleep during that time, I'm exhausted!
The other day I was wondering what Final Fantasy XIV was like, so I had a look at its website [http://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/] and discovered that it had some very nice music indeed. It also seemed to remind me of an older Sqaure game called Secret of Mana, a brilliant game for the Super Nintendo. I was bored so I had a look at some sheet music for it, and managed to learn this song in an hour or so;
Few thing though, when using a pick you'll get a better tone and more control if you play more towards the bridge. Watch the swing in 12/8 and you were a bit sloppy towards then end. Cool licks though, and props on the solo
As often as I can, I have it bookmarked so I can always see when new posts are on it. I'll always update it eventually, it just might take me a few days depending on how much time I have free.
I'm still looking forward to seeing you pull out something awesome by yourself on the piano... but that'll come in time! I did like the little cameos at 1:50 and 4:40 in the first song, that piano sounds amazing to play!

I know! I remember playing a Yamaha grand piano in a store once. The sound it produced was absolutely amazing. I do love my upright that I own (despite the fact it's horribly out of tune, but there's no point getting it tuned whilst it's still summer here in Aus, the heat will just throw the strings out again) but a nice sounding piano is something else entirely. One day I'll own one.
What with a gig coming up on Tuesday, I decided I was going to get in some practice. An hour and a half, which I recorded all of it. Here's the songs I've managed to edit down so far, and I'll submit the rest as and when.

Well, seeing as my original plan for my 5k post is taking waaay too long, I'll put that off for a later date.
And besides, there aren't enough drum videos here, it's been a while [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.151090-The-Escapist-Jam-Session?page=10#4212876] since my last contribution to this thread and I need to learn these songs anyway for AS Music Technology recording coursework.
Behold what two hours, a drum kit and my mum's camera will give you.
This was probably the song I have to do which I had the least issues with when making these videos.
This one I had to actually figure out and learn (I prefer to figure pieces out myself than use tabs/ notation), which was an annoyance. Also, I wasn't listening to the backing music at the time and due to how ringy my snare is in the intro (which was solved later on in the song due to an amazing combination of crap snare mixed with crap camera sound quality), I can't quite tell whether or not I'm playing a bit too fast in the intro. The original song's here [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5fcAns_hqtM], if you want to see if I screwed up or not.
This was an interesting one to do, as the original features an electronic drumkit/ drum machine as well as an acoustic drum kit, so I tried to encorporate the off-beat bass drum hits into the acoustic mix.
Chances are I'll also be redoing this one in a day or two; I screwed up on the intro.
Also, my ride cymbal doesn't really sound like that. Or if it does, it's bending the laws of Physics to do so.
This is what happens when I try to be funky.
Same comment about the ride cymbal.
This one was another one I had to learn, but it was also the first one I had to record, so I don't really care anymore about it. It did get me into Jeff Buckley, though.
Same comment about the ride cymbal.
This is the hardest f*cking song ever.
/sarcasm
This is why you will never see another drum cover of this song for the rest of your life.
This was the only one I didn't/ don't have to record. Instead, this was the piece I was recording other people doing for my own recording coursework. Thankfully, all the recording's done about a month ahead of the deadline, and I only need to start doing some mixing now.
I may also redo this one, as I mess up a bit whilst pretending to be bored.
As I've already said, I've got to do recorded drum covers of all those songs (with the exceptions of Last Goodbye and Macy's Day Parade, otherwise I will be slaughtered by both my friends and my two course teachers, so any feedback would be well appreciated.
I may also be looking into redoing Balaclava and am also contemplating sticking up some piano songs I'm currently learning. But it's half past midnight in England and I doubt my family/ neighbours would enjoy me attempting to play a tin whistle, let alone a piano and a drum kit.
Congraulations on reaching your 5000th post! I assume Neo is somewhere in the works?
As for myself I've learnt all of Rondo Alla Turca by Mozart, I just can't play it quickly enough yet to warrant a video. I need a lot more practice, it's a very quick song.
I think whilst I practice that I'll start learning Rachmaninov's Prelude in C Sharp Minor, an amazing piece that he wrote after having a dream that he was buried alive. It really comes out in the music, available here. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtuMVBLEWJU]

It's very nice, I'd love to hear you play it sometime! I particularly like the bass notes in this piece, for some reason the opening minute or so reminded me of music off a Final Fantasy game. I'm not quite sure why.
I assume so too. Only mod wrath I can remember ever recieving was for a requested suspension, and Lab says that those don't count on my history (one of the things that finally pushed me towards getting one).

I can see why he would've written it after dreaming about being buried alive. The part after the crescendo (it's been about nine months since I've had to use the term 'crescendo') does seem quite scary and gives a sense of panic I find.

I suspect it'll be a very hard piece to learn (particularly because the middle section is very quick) so it might be a few months until I can make a recording of it (by that stage hopefully my piano will have been tuned again, yay!) but it's an amazing song, even more so when you know that curious fact about it.
