I still love it, more so in fact.

I came here many years ago for the gaming news and funny videos. Those things haven't changed (except there are more funny videos now). I later discovered the nice forums where issues could be discussed and questions answered. This was cool. Then they added badges, which where fun and addictive to get. Later they added user groups which have really changed how I use the site and how I interact with the community. The publishers club has given me greater access to The Escapist while I'm not at home through podcasts and mobile videos.

About repeat threads. It's true. The sheer number of people here makes it inevitable. Even this thread has been done to death over the years.

Therefore I announce I am NOT leaving the Escapist, but instead embracing it more fully through the forums and user groups of which I'm a part, and will continue to support the growth of the Escapist beyond "that place with Zero Punctuation" as it used to be. I plan to get my landmark badge (only a few months now!) and whatever comes after that.

I like the way this site's been evolving so far. It's gotten a bit more polite and with that comes less flaming so that's a good thing.
The only thing I don't like is the anti-pirate thing but since this is a gaming website I get where that's coming from.
As for the ads just download firefox and use AdblockPlus. I know I do. Makes my internet experience a whole lot less annoying except when people advertise in their posts. Luckily I have never done that.

What drew me in first was Zero Punctuation, then Movie Bob, then I started poking around and Bam! I found a community that I liked. Are there trolls, sure, are the flamers, sure, do the mods do a damn good job at controlling these, yes. Are things maybe a bit too tight, not in my opinion. I'm fairly new, just over 7 months, but this is only one of two forums I have ever joined. You want to be a troll go to 4chan, it's what that ugly mess was designed for. However if you want to be able to share your opinion in a more mature fashion then stay here. It's a nice place. I don't see the premium memberships as being elitist, I'm sure there are those who will, but rather as a means of supporting the site and community we (or I, for one, at least) love. No one likes something for nothing though, so they decided to give some incentives. Nothing particularly spectacular just some nice bonuses, larger videos, one page articles, no advertisements. The Escapist won me over with spectacular content, and a great community. I am glad to be a part of this place. It's fun.

Oh, for God sake.

And please... enough with the Max the Reaper nostalgia.

That user spent 90% of his time here making other people feel like shit and belittling anyone with a different view to him on anything. Good riddance.
What? He only insulted people who deserved it!
Max's definition of someone 'deserving it' was very different from mine.

You may not have seen it but I saw it many times, he'd attack people for no reason other than they had an opinion he didn't agree with.
In all fairness, that's the case with pretty much everyone on here. Hell, I have been "attacked" by people I shared the same bloody opinion with.

Personally I always liked Max, largely because I never took him seriously and don't think he did either.

Dunno man, I gotta disagree there, I find most people on here to be really agreeable most of the time.

I've gotten into heated arguments once or twice, but as far as I recall I've never once stooped to insulting anyone on this site.

I actually liked Max too, and always got on well with him, but I never approved of the way he belittled people so much. It just bothered me, as it would not stop even when it was obvious that people were getting upset and hurt.
