What exactly is Melee night? Is it like a tournament?
It's a night of TF2 where only melee weapons are allowed are allowed. Except for the medigun, pyro airblast, jarate, and sandman. Engineers cannot build sentries.

It's just a load of fun. Check out the videos of the other nights. We often throw together elaborate stunts for fun.

Is this alpha server UK or US tonight?
US. If it fills up we'll use the UK server, too.
Hmmm... I just got a Steam notification saying the exact same thing... Let's see who posted it.
Wow, it was you! there must be a connection I'm not seeing...

Seriously, though, it's good that you're letting people who aren't regularly checking this thread know about the situation.

Ave you got a 360 clan for MWF and Plan on making one for MWF2
The 360 group is managed by DirkGently [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/profiles/view/DirkGently] and can be found here. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.89237?page=1] He'd be the person to ask for that.

Heh. Thanks. It's why I'm always nagging people to join the groups. It's the only way to make sure EVERYONE knows about it.

Just finished for the night, I think there's still some testimonial stuff still to come, but Tenmar's being brilliant and sorting that out :D Another marvelous night all in all

This melee night was so epic that I've started working on my own woefully inadequate video for it, which I'm hoping to finish by sometime Thursday. Tenmar's already doing the official video, but the event was long and glorious enough that two separate videos might be a good idea.

So, I guess I'll post it somewhere when it's done, and you guys can link to it if you think it's good enough.

We'll be glad to.

I kept the UK server going for some time, but by map 5 or so, we were down to 4 players after I had to wield the ban-stick.

Points to think about moving forward.

*Listing all the can do and can't do's. I'm still not sure if rocket jumps are able to be used without being abused.
* Chatting to Kross about having a melee mode enforced, but I think that's going to force him to come on every Tuesday, which is unreasonable.
* Putting a bigger plug for The Escapist Magazine. I know that you can alter server textures easily.

Could we not get a script that can be run by admins? I don't know how it all works, so I'm probably talking out my backside here... :p

As for an official plug, the Testimonials which we recorded after the match should be enough of a plug for Escapist, so hopefully we get a return favour.

The other thing is, can we have a notice up on the "entry" screen (the one with the bit about having a motto some day) saying Tuesdays are melee? We've had so many complaints because "no-one said it was a melee server when I joined".

...There was something else admin-question shaped but I've forgotten it... it'll come to me later.

Not easily, AFAIK it would require a server restart every time we wanted to use it. Possibly altering the server name every tuesday would be possible though.

I know, I just remember seeing a number of other servers that have their own adverts as part of the map's textures.

You have NO idea how long me and Danny spend yelling "Melee Only" and then jumping through admin as is ;)

I do, believe me I do... I believe it's around 30-45 seconds for *EVERY* time someone joins? :p

No, in all seriousness though, if you put that at the start and people ignore it, they can't get pissy if they get kicked.

Graciously filmed by Tenmar. There was too much footage to put in one video, so sorry for missing out the airblast battle, but to those who died on the horribly dangerous saws: we salute you. The video actually ends at the credits, just an editing whoopsie.

Just to let ya know I won't be able to attend next week's event. So if you have an ambition to increase your skills in movie editing software then go for it. You only have something to gain and nothing to lose.

Just remember not to use Warner Music Group music if you plan to post on youtube. If you want me to do the editing you can group the files in a zip or rar file and upload them to megaupload.
Make sure to hit me up on steam, guyy, then I can make sure you get in to film.

Well, what with school starting up, I'm not sure if I'll have time for another video-editing bonanza next week. I can still tape it though, and if I don't have time to edit the video myself, I can send the demos to Tenmar or whoever wants to make the video that round.

Also, my ridiculously long video for this week's event is in the process of uploading now, but it'll be a while...stupid wireless connection. The awesome little thingy I did with the airblast battle should make up for it getting cut from Tenmar's video...assuming it really was cut out, I haven't watched it yet; the upload is lagging my connection too much.

The problem with the pyro airblast battle when I recording was that the audio did not record. The video was fine but all the audio which was made during the event was lost and it is hard to make a video when the audio was so important(right down to the sound effects).
Ironically, I actually took out the audio on purpose for part of the airblast fight...but for a good reason (at least, I hope it's a good reason). There's some regular sawblade-slicing-sound-filled video of it too, though.

Now I'm wishing I got video of the testimonials...I didn't tape that part, since I was expecting you'd have them all taped anyway.

Were you using demo-record, or recording it directly to video?

Hm...Demo recording works a lot better, I think; the "videos" take up less space (my demos of the entire event are about 80 MB total), and there's a secret "startmovie [name] avi" command not mentioned in the wiki which converts the demo directly to a .avi video file:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=934312

It does take some extra fiddling, but the videos come out better, and you won't run out of hard drive space.
