[HEADING=2]Melee Night Rules.[/HEADING]
Well, it's melee night tonight if you didn't already know, so here's a pre-emptive strike at all those questions people are bound to ask. Anyway, here we go:
1. Most obviously, melee weapons only.
1a. However, medics can use their medigun. They can also ubercharge or kritz their target.
1b. Engineers may build anything bar a sentry gun.
1c. Pyros may use airblast.
1d. Spies may use anything bar the revolver or ambassador.
1e. Scouts may use sandman.
1f. Snipers may use jarate.
1g. Heavies can drop sandviches.
2. Don't be an ass.
3. If the teams are unbalanced, please change to even them out.
4. Try not to spam the microphone too much. Having a conversation is fine, as is the odd rage-induced scream. However, should you completely block anyone else's communication for any length of time don't be surprised if you're muted.
5. Do not speak on behalf of the admins.
6. Admins have the final say.
7: Don't scream at the admin to kick someone or change map or hurry up, we have to wade through a menu and sometimes eat..
8: Don't drink the Jarate and don't take the pi$$.
Please comment on these, any and all feedback is appreciated.
On another, completely unrelated, note- I learned a valuable lesson today: Nutella is awesome!
Say what? Allowing Spies to cloak and disguise? Now thát's overpowered. I say take out the disguise and cloak. In melee nights they're good enough with just their insta-kill backstab, allowing them to disguise and all, especially without pyro's being able to spycheck, is just too much I think.
And yes indeed, Nutella is awesome.

Everyone can spycheck but just swinging their weapon around randomly at any passer by. Honestly, when you play, everyone does that all the time anyway. Pyros can still spycheck, by the way, they can either axe people, or airblast them away.
The knife isn't that bad, in the melee games so far I've found that people are much more aware of their surroundings. It does relatively low damage if they don't get the back. Especially compared to the heavy's fists or KGBs, which kill most things in one or two hits.

Oh the knife is fine I think, it's just that with these rules, spies loose not nearly as much of their functionality as the other classes do. Heck they pretty much play the same, except that they don't have to watch out for random bursts of flame and minigun fire. I think it's pretty obvious that with these rules, spies have a major advantage over the others. The knife is fine indeed with it's low damage, but you'll be able to get to people's back a lot easier with the disguise and cloak.
Ah well we'll see, if it doesn't work the rules can be changed on the fly anyway. Best not make a big deal out of it.
Well, if I am correct, then spy's will disguise into a class, and they will hold that classes main weapon out. It is pretty easy to tell if they are a spy, due to the fact that you can only use melee. Then again, I havn't played TF2 (PC) in a while.
If I remember correctly, a recent update gave spies the ability to change the weapon of your disguise. If not, you raise a good point.
But whatever is the case, it turned out that the rules weren't so bad as I thought they would be, spies weren't dominating the place. Shame I dropped out after a few rounds, but those rounds were good fun.
Yes he can ! You disguise then you take a different weapon and you push the "fast disguise" button and at the left bottom of the screen it will tell you what weapon the enemies will see.
There are some good deals over the weekend at Direct2Drive [http://www.direct2drive.com/d2dturns5]. Saint's Row 2 is $5, and it activates on Steam. I've heard it's glitchy, but I'll risk the price of a sandvich to check for myself.
[HEADING=2]L4D Custom Map RoundUp![/HEADING]
Far from Mr.Ocean to blatantly plagiarise someone else's work, here's some copy/pasta from the L4D Boycott group's steam page. Supplemented with a few images, videos, and opinions for your viewing pleasure.
In the realm of serious campaigns, there's three that immediately spring to the "top of the heap", they are:
Death Aboard 7.0 [http://www.l4dmods.com/index.php?option=com_joomloads&view=package&Itemid=2&packageId=719] :
Despite a kind of cheesy ending sequence, this has all of the things that make a great L4D campaign. Having played through this campaign a good number of times, I can safely say that it's about as polished as they come. There are a few areas where its possible to get stuck and to have to kill yourself (Careful of the railings in the cargo hold.), but otherwise it seems a-ok. Watch out for the car in the container up the ladder, make sure to send the redshirt to trigger the trap. -Danny
Heaven Can Wait: [http://www.l4dmods.com/index.php?option=com_joomloads&view=package&Itemid=2&packageId=612] Another awesome example of L4D custom campaigns. This is a massive custom campaing that is challenging enough on Normal; including a unique "Gauntlet" style Crescendo event. -He's not joking, this is definitely a difficult campaign. I generally consider myself and my little group of four as being good L4D players, and we died a few times. The hardest section is the car park, be very careful in there, or avoid it by jumping down through the skylight into the stairs at the beginning. Triggering even a single car starts an endless horde that only ceases when you escape to the street again. -Danny
Night Terror: [http://www.l4dmods.com/index.php?option=com_joomloads&view=package&Itemid=2&packageId=556] This is technically still in beta. Good, creepy feel to it though and I have high hopes for the final version. - As far as I know, this campaign is finished. All 5 maps are present, with few bugs that we found on our run-through (As crazy as that run-through was. The car thing in the video is buggy, once you're out you might not be able to get back in). Another difficult campaign, made so by the horde and tank combos that will no doubt cause you trouble. Keep those molotvs handy. Having said that, the craziness of the people in this video really sums up the attitude to take when playing this campaign. Don't take it too seriously, and see if you can recognise the maps from anywhere in particular. -Danny
That's just the highlight reel of some of the more popular ones (at the moment).
There's still campaigns like Coal'd Blood, Back to School, Dead City and so forth that make for an awesome experience. All of these campaigns and more can be found at http://www.l4dmods.com and http://www.l4dmaps.com
As for upcomming community maps, there's Dead Before Dawn [http://www.l4dmaps.com/details.php?file=17]; It's my understanding that Darth_Brush, their mapper, ran into some computer problems, but they're still scheduled to come out for Halloween. (That was some seriously nice support from the community)
Then there's Cold Case. [http://www.l4dmods.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=249:cold-case-size-does-matter&catid=2:news&Itemid=13] Up to 5 maps now (i think!) and still growing. This is a campaign that if finished, will truely be 'Epic' in scale. 36, yes, thirty-six maps in total, when done. It's scheduled for a release on Halloween. There's no doubt, however, that this will be a big file to download, so get saving those bandwidths! -Danny
Finally, on a lighter note. The Zelda no Dentasu campaign (Couldn't Find Anything On This) was pretty darn awesome. Now there's a Mushroom Massacre [http://www.l4dmaps.com/details.php?file=2538] campaign, set in the Mario 64 castle. I'm sorry, but blasting away at zombies in some of these old game settings is totally awesome.
There are also dozens of one-map survival mode scenarios available. Only one of which I've played- Helms Deep. [http://www.l4dmaps.com/details.php?file=1274] Pictured right, for those neglected few who are yet to see the films. Note that this is a big map for survival mode. You'll need to think yourselves up a plan of movement around the castle and stick to it. If you get separated on this map, you're gone, it's just that big. However, there is a total of 9 (I think) minuguns on this map. Four on the main wall, two guarding the gate, another two guarding the road behind the gate, and one in the keep. When it comes down to it, you may find yourselves hurled from the very top of the tower by an enraged swarm of tanks. Have fun! -Danny
[HEADING=1]Update![/HEADING]
[HEADING=2]Forum Group Support Added![/HEADING]
"What's this?" I hear you inquire, "What took you so long, Danny?!"
Well, it's partly laziness, but mainly a lack of applicable forum groups. I'm surprised by the small number of game centric groups; but, if you create one and would like to have it added, then please PM me or post here, and I'll get right on it.
I've sorted them into two categories. One, as pictured, is for groups that cater to a particular game.
The other is for groups that either cater for a game that does not yet have a list, or that cater to an aspect of PC gaming that isn't tied to a particular game. Things like hardware, browser games, and general PC enthusiasm.
[HEADING=2]New Game Group Creation Process[/HEADING]
Rather than making a whole list box for every game requested by every member, I've decided that I'm going to cut down on the large numbers of teeny (<10 member) groups by putting into place the following criteria:
To Request a new group said:
As much as I'd love to have a separate group for every game, it's not practical to have dozens of groups numbering in the single digits for every game (As you can see below, there are several such groups). If you wish for a list to be made for your game, post or PM me one with at least 9 other members. If you wish to bypass me on this, I have no problem with a user-made steam group. PM me the details when you make one, and I'll stick it in the group listings with it's own spoiler box.
[HEADING=1]Home-Brewed Game![/HEADING]
One of the newer forum members has made himself a game, and so far it looks good! He'd like some more people to play it and provide feedback for him, think of it as a beta test. We're kinda worried that this might be construed as advertising, so if any mod requests it PM me sharpish and I'll take it down.
Cleril said:
Rated M (Rated by me, not the ESRB)
Well, I suppose you could consider me an Indie developer. This is my first game. I'm making it with RPG Maker VX. Right now it's around 2 hours long.
Here's the whole spiel:
Story Synopsis:
You play the game as Cleril, a bard who has been asked to help the economy of the isle of Haven. The mayor actually requested Cleril's help to stimulate the slouching economy. Cleril is fairly known within the world as a genuine bard of his own class. Although many claim his work as crude and unusual, most find it enthralling and sometimes overly effective.
While helping the town is Cleril's motive, he is bound to be distracted,? without a doubt. After all, Haven has its cast of characters and dark history. But then it also has its pleasure and gleeful laughter about as well, or that could just be the drunken fools in the lowly pub. Perhaps even the graveyard is alive with dead or the Jester is showing much more than some cheap parlor trick...
Haven, is like a spring day in winter...as Cleril has told me once before. But his story has yet to be told.
World Development:
Haven, the name doesn't live up to its location. The first site I saw after arriving was the graveyard. The shrill tone of the wind brought a sad melody to my ears. I see a child here, why would such a thing be there? Children belong with tedious innocence and cursed joyfulness.
Then I found the local bar, full of poison. I never had a taste for liquor, it does nobody good. The owner seemed interesting to say the least, with his flicking tongue spouting sarcasm left and right. When I left, the smell stayed.
I arrived at the castle soon enough. A statue of a dragon imposed its splendor drinking from the water below. The guard laid nicely in the scenery of green grass. The dog reminded me of myself. What I saw inside was sadly nothing more than man made posh architecture.
And yet, still I did not see everything in Haven. I wonder when I will.
[HEADING=1]Dodgeball![/HEADING]
As some of you may know, yesterday I tried to do a Dodgeball event on TF2. Hopefully we'll manage to get a few more in next time (not next week, this is NOT going to be a weekly thing like Melee, if you want a custom event set up, speak to myself or one of the admin, we'll see what we can do).
Dodgeball is basically a game which pits 2 teams of Pyro's against each other, with homing crit-rockets for weapons. They'll lock onto you, and until you airblast them, you die or they blow up, they'll keep following you. So what do you do? Airblast them at the other team!
Alright. I'm going to go to the next Melee Night. I've been ignoring the invites for the past little while, but I guess I will. Also, I use the clan tag [ESC]

Problem with that Alpha- That means finding someone in the US that you trust enough to send them money, and they trust you enough to send a game. I don't know about you, but there's only 3 guys who I currently trust like that, 2 other brits and a serbian.
