Well I can say that I'm in the minority: I like playing CoD. The only modern gaming system I have is a PS3. If I were to pick one party that I'd lean more towards it would be Republican (I don't consider myself one though.) And I'm a Mormon (that there probably screws up the ratio by a lot.)

Dyslexic and I have this neat chart of how the brain of the common escapist and how it now works.

Socially awkward agnostic 99% heterosexual tennis master here. And by master I mean pretty good.

None of that is true for me

Oh wait we're talking about what's dominant

Mentally disabled people

Will I get banned for saying that here?
No, but you're definitely not off to a good start.

The site was giving me trouble about not having posted in a long time and for some reason I ended up having to refresh the send twice

Cynical, a hatred of change and a hatred of stagnation, atheist, agnostic, religious, cynical, elitist, self righteous, self loathing, pan-sexual, PC loving, console loving, Pony loving.

In short: Really really complicated and often at war with itself.

That. That's the only thing that can be definitively said about the escapist community, anything else is just guesswork and sweeping generalisations.

I'm a well-balanced heterosexual white male who plays sports regularly, games on occasion, and has a girlfriend. I'm also applying to college this year.

I seem to have a rather more forgiving impression of the user base on this site then others... I find most people here to be relatively pleasant and welcoming (for the internet), if a little pretentious and smart-arsed at times.

I've gotten the impression that the userbase is mainly made up of anti-piracy suckers of corporate co... Well you get the idea without me having to get too graphic.

And yes, it does sadden me how so many people who actually claim to like video games can be so easily duped by corporate propaganda...
You're one of those people huh.

The only one who can truly see the world for what it is and can't believe that we're all suckers who fall for 'corporate propaganda'.

You don't happen to own a Chez Guevara t-shirt by any chance do you?
Probably a closet full.

And a bookshelf full of nothing but Ayn Rand's pretentious crap.

High Fives anyone?

From what I can tell from years of lurking and being in the community interacting with people and of course looking at what keeps people around and what gets them banned I believe I can safely break down the escapist user base into three groups.

New users: By that I mean anyone who's been here for a year or has made under 1000 posts. Often times they treat the escapist like any old forum. That should make sense except for the fact that the escapist mods don't play with people. They will often make rookie mistakes. Rookie posts. Or in some cases they actually think they can stick around and act a bit nasty when they get angry or upset. Sometimes it's a bit worrying to see these people around because they don't adhere to the rules like they should and can make the place feel lousy sometimes.

aficionados and pseudo aficionados: The escapist is full of these people. Whenever a subject of interest comes up one or two of these people show up. What with it being the Internet you never really know which is which until you see an argument go down and watch what comes out of there text boxes. Seriously discussions like religion, politics, economics, or anything pertaining to something that is somewhat metaphysical in concept or perception will cause these folks to lay down there two cents and oftentimes the actual aficionado will do word battle with the pseudo aficionado. I'm not everywhere at once but people usually get in trouble and oftentimes it will be members who should have known better. Still though what with all the question and comparison threads this place gets it is nice to know that there actually are smart people. I just wish said people could be more humble and tactful when communicating with others.

Nerds/geeks:These people are pretty much what constituents "regular people" For a website like this. They are the fans of a game series or the anti fans of a game series. They make threads and amateur articles about subjects. And yes. The bronies (that have somewhat swamped this website in it's zaniness) also make up this group. But so do fans of steam and other things that have melted into pop culture or become a noteworthy character in gaming culture.

That's the escapist user base more or less.

Im far from "the only one". Where I live, theres an entire political party devoted to pro-piracy ideals, so you're not very successful in tryin to make me look like some "lone nut" here.

Also, the socialist activist you refer to was called "CHE" not "Chez". And no, I don't own any such t-shirts, having pro-piracy beliefs is in no way or form a leftist opinion.

Any more, not so educated, presumptions you'd like to toss out there while you still have the chance?

Yes, yes, and I'm sure you're making a huge impact on whatever it is that you do.

I'll just be over here, being a corporate whore, paying for the things I enjoy, instead of being a self-entitled thief.

I'm interested in hearing other people's estimations of any dominant traits that come to mind when thinking about the Escapist's forum userbase as a whole? In other words, are there any commonalities amongst the people who choose to reside here?

As far as I can tell, based on all the threads I've browsed through, the most common description of an Escapist member is a socially-awkward atheistic lesbian combat arts master
Damn straight It's got margin of error.

You forgot that everyone here is a massive cynical bastard.
