I'm starting to get the feeling (starting, or had for a long time) that many of the users here froth at the mouth when you suggest that they're wrong, rather than enjoying a good debate. Also, the amount of non sexual's here is far to many. I'm just assuming they're not getting any. There can't be that many non sexual people in one place, that goes against, well, most statistics really.

Pessimistic - Lots of depressed, negative and sometimes suicidal vibes from the userbase

Picky - People refuse to buy or support products based on the smallest details. I've never met someone in real life who do these things. Granted I suspect 95 percent of these people are all talk or never intended to buy the product to begin with.

Close-minded - There is a lack of debate in the Escapist userbase. People are too quick to simply say that such a game sucks without any thought or reasoning to justify.

Quick to Anger on extremely minor details

Quick to Boycott - particularly against DRM and EA

Extreme Fanboyism - particularly towards Valve and Bethesda

Creative Thinkers - Lots of interesting topics and ideas pop up on the forums over time

Repetitive Threads - GOTY 2011? We've only had this thread 48 times so far this year. Though I'd rather to many threads than not enough.

Fun - Lots of entertaining comments to read and respond to. Pretty much the key reason I've become a regular.

I agree with the nonsexual/asexual suspicion. I'd never seen/heard of any specific asexual people before I came here. Unless something about the Escapist brings them in like flies, some of you escapists are confused. Or your just trying to sound hip and outside the norm. Which is what I'd say is the best unifying trait of a majority of the Escapist. Don't worry, I love you all anyway.

Yes, yes, and I'm sure you're making a huge impact on whatever it is that you do.

I'll just be over here, being a corporate whore, paying for the things I enjoy, instead of being a self-entitled thief.
What gives you the logical opportunity to call me a thief when im not doing anything different from what you do?

As usual, anti-pirates are being hypocritical. Nothing new under the sun...

Misanthropic atheists as far as the eye can see. (I don't really mind the atheist part, it's just something I've noticed) Granted, they are rather intelligent misanthropes, but they can still be a bit of a bummer at times.

I'm interested in hearing other people's estimations of any dominant traits that come to mind when thinking about the Escapist's forum userbase as a whole? In other words, are there any commonalities amongst the people who choose to reside here?

As far as I can tell, based on all the threads I've browsed through, the most common description of an Escapist member is a socially-awkward atheistic lesbian combat arts master[footnote]There may be some margin of error in my research.[/footnote].
That would describe me, though I'm more a combat novice....>.>

Arrogant, smart-arsed, automatically rude and sarcastic to most OPs in threads. On the other side of things, intelligent, helpful and varied. So just like any room of people in the outside world I guess, thinking about it...

Fact. the Cutie Mark Crusaders are near carbon copies of The Powerpuff Girls, another series that Faust worked on.

err, WAIT, no, we dont watch My Little Pony, MLP is for girls and we are manly men doing manly things with our manly beards! WE ALSO EAT STEAKS AND DRIVE TRUCKS MADE OUT OF STEAKS!

OT: The Escapist userbase is what I like to assume being the electronic equivalent of a box of chocolates. We are varied enough, and you get pissed off when you bite into a coconut flavored user.

Also, we tend to use metaphor's more often than other forums, it seems.
Correction: we tend to use incredibly odd metaphors that get sort of weird at the end more than other forums.

Well, I suppose I'll put it in terms of my own traits:

With the majority, I am:
Male
White
Between the ages of 15 and 30
A metal fan
Hater of CoD

This is where I don't fit with the majority:
I'm not European.
I'm a practicing Catholic, not an atheist or agnostic.
I like to think I'm not cynical or a misanthrope.
I like Nintendo.
I believe there are things that our current understanding of logic cannot yet explain.
I lean to the right politically, by US standards.
I don't worship Valve, Bethesda or Mojang.
I'm not really a PC gamer.

EDIT: Two more differences:
I like the USA
I don't really like Yahtzee. I used to, but I've grown tired of his attitude and I disagree with his views on games more than I agree.

I don't know about the rest of you. But that describes me pretty well.
Me as well. It seems we've found our niche.

left leaning secular elitist who tend to attack everything that doesn't share similar views even though they tend to express equality (hypocrites)and force THEM to back up their claims and im sure most are just "enlightened" college kids who refuse to broaden their minds (ironic actually)and wont admit when they've made a mistake.

In short, the tight-wad "sophisticated" version of /b/.

thats what id say about 60% of these forums are filled with. the others are ok and they make the threads worth it...slightly.

I think so far the only thing that is certain is that MOST OF US are gamers... I think... Diversity here is huge, and I like that.

From what I've seen on the escapist when it comes to sexuality. Most of the members seem to be

1. Bi
2. Trans gendered
3. A nonsexual or something like that the name escapes me
4. Not is getting any

The people who I consider not to be lying just to be different, are the Gay and straight people That post around here. I mean honestly how many nonsexual people can there be, and why are they all gamers? Ehh, maybe I'm just a bigot I don't realize it yet.

Politically most the member seem to be socialists, a handful communist, liberal, democrat. I AM NOT CALLING THOSE A BAD THING OR WRONG. I mean any system could work if carried out the right way I suppose. Its just what I see.

Thought the one thing all the escapist members seem to have in common and this might shock you. There most commonly gamers.
I feel like such a minority. A straight conservative wasn't mentioned anywhere in there. :( lol

Quirky, somewhat misanthropic twenty-somethings.
Twenty... somethings? right....

Considering the amount of immature stuff going on in these forums of late, I'm guessing it's not that anymore.

Try narrow minded, angsty, OCD infused teenagers, which makes up for 90 per cent of users on here now.

I feel very old on these forums sometimes, and I'm only 22. Their's something seriously wrong here.

Even with all it's many flaws, I just can't seem to leave this site, as it has become a huge part of my life.

Ponies! Ponies have lived long in the Heart of all Escapists long before this new wave of Magical Friendship!
Behold, SUSAN THE PONIOUS!

That being said, I think the Escapist is largely young people who want to talk about nerdy things in an environment where, "Lol, butthurt?" is a moddable post.

Other than friends on the IRC who I've come to love and care about in the IRC, the strict rules and intolerance towards chronically bitchy attitudes is what keeps bringing me back.

Hmm, most of us on here are very knowledgable of pop-culture. Oh, and we like video games, in case you couldn't tell.

Generally teenage, self-important, stuck-up, pretentious, supposedly intelligent, socially awkward, falsely liberal, self-proclaimed autistic and bisexual (yet sexually inactive) "nice guys", who pretend they're all edgy by not caring about certain things, when really it just makes them look like psychopaths.

The ones who aren't like that, I'm alright with.
