Cynical, a hatred of change and a hatred of stagnation, atheist, agnostic, religious, cynical, elitist, self righteous, self loathing, pan-sexual, PC loving, console loving, Pony loving.

In short: Really really complicated and often at war with itself.
Oh god, it's like you're staring into my soul. [/applause]

All of us are gamers. However it seems like a growing majority have very little to no concept of reality. You just need to see the hate for Steve Jobs in the other thread at the moment to realise how pathetically sad this user base is becoming.

On the last Meyer's-Brigg's personality test thread, there sure were a lot of INTJ's, I'm an INTP, but it seems I could swing towards INTJ as well. So, there's that...

Personally, I'm a socially awkward, atheistic, gay, combat arts master, so do I get some kind of prize for being barely different? And also lying about that last one?

Oh, and in my opinion, there are a lot of hipsters on this community, which is why I love it.

Most of us probably hate society to some degree, have a higher than average IQ, and we're mostly gamers.
I guess we'll never have any data beyond casual empiricism, but I doubt that one very much.

Excellent.

Let's not forget those who have lost their faith in humanity because someone isn't very good at maths.

I've decided only to count the important people in this statistic.
1 of 1 people surveyed are exactly like me.
I wouldn't have it any other way.

From what I can tell every single user on this site has long hair and a beard, they listens to heavy metal, are atheist, sexually inactive, socially inept, have some form of psycotic illness that they take meds for, and are self centered. Also they have memory like gold fish, since the same topics gets posted all the time.

Well as far as I can tell, Escapists are very lonely. Just see how many of the topics start with "Am I the only one". Whenever these topics come up, I imagine a small boy with an emo haircut about to burst in tears.

Also, as far as age and gender, a lot seem to be 12-year-old girls. I'm pretty sure we all know where I base this conclusion.

... ... What? You want me to judge these people? Most are my friends, and it's against my morals to judge people especially those I don't even know. Please, let me put up a real challenge for yah- saying something cool about every member-alike that has in common:

Intelligent, open minded, passively understanding of sexuality, votary to the end, hilariously humored people online who love games.
I'd call it less judging and more an analysis, which are two different things. You're associating, I'm assuming, the negative connotations with judging, which is generally what people tend to do. Rather I'd advise you to look at it, like I said earlier, as analyzing them, which isn't immoral by any stance as far as I know.

As for my own analysis of this site; there's too much hearsay for me to truly understand what people are like. As far as people's opinions of themselves go on this site, I tend to take most of it with a spoonful of salt. Seems like the only way to truly get an accurate measure of it.

Aggressively atheistic, overly defensive, overly sensitive, self absorbed, annoying (might be a bit redundant), sexual deviants.

One day I'll find an Internet community I like, but for now I'll just have to put up with this one.

Dat Avatar *Bites lower lip*

Yeah, I got to agree with that. Guess I am overly sensitive to call anyone (or everyone) out spite being aware of the downsides in people around here. Pretty interesting you brought immoral in this though- to me, immoral usually means not conforming to accepted standards of morality. Also stands for vicious, which though you say that analyzing isn't immoral, usually it tends to overlap the boundaries of just observing and becomes bashing on people. Least in my eyes.

Same here. Some are this way, others tend to really pull my strings (spite not showing it) when most make me smile. I love how Users on this website may have major differences but they got some really neat similarities. I won't feel opposed to you expressing how people are generally like, but I just won't do it myself I guess. It's like my spoon is full of sugar haha.
When it came to my reference to immorality, it was more in reference to your own statement that it was against your morals to judge, while I believe analyzing wouldn't be against it. My own morals, I suspect have very similar and dissimilar elements due to different belief systems.

As far as bashing people goes; that is a simple extreme case, and since the internet is both simple and extreme, you can expect to see many opinions like that throughout it. When it comes down to it though, looking at a person means looking at the full package, not just the good parts of it. If I was to describe myself for example, my good traits would be generally good looks, a strong body and mind, general understanding of the political, psychological, and sociological worlds, etc, etc. However when you subscribe to that aspect of me, you also catch the general self centered arrogance and sometimes just plain dickery that comes with me whereever I go. One has to accept both sides when looking at someone and in my opinion simply focusing on the good, while being a noble intent, clouds your image of people and can lead to all sorts of nasty surprises.

Mmhhmm. I'll agree with you. On some of the better days, the discussions are quite fascinating, well mannered and fairly logical. It's moderately frustrating to see so many users on here convinced that the majority of the community is the people who post the popular threads. I've found a lot of good creative works on here and it's a shame that everyone has to be so negative here.

I'll say that many of the people here are the same demographic for playing video game. It's redundant, but that suburban middle class 15-35 male bracket holds a good chunk of the people here. Personality wise, I'd say we're pretty logical about things. For better or for worse.

Yes, yes, and I'm sure you're making a huge impact on whatever it is that you do.

I'll just be over here, being a corporate whore, paying for the things I enjoy, instead of being a self-entitled thief.
What gives you the logical opportunity to call me a thief when im not doing anything different from what you do?

As usual, anti-pirates are being hypocritical. Nothing new under the sun...
Um, how is he being hypocritical? He said that he pays for the things he loves, while pirates download everything for free, and rob the industry.

OT: Well, in my experiences from the Religion/Politics section, people will gang up and jump on you if you aren't an atheist or socialist.
Well I guess some pirates do not buy anything, but I guess I am what you could call a pirate and I've bought around 44 games on steam during 1.5 yr so I wouldnt really say that all pirates just downloads and never pays for games.

And that's on my good days.

OP: Well, most everyone is a gamer of some description. That's about all I'm certain of, we're a pretty diverse bunch.

If i was to give my opinion of the escapists users i would probably be banned. I only came here for ZP and made the mistake of making an account. I almost never post but I feel the need to post this time. I HATE EVERYONE ON THIS SITE, EVERYONE READING THIS I AM LETTING YOU KNOW I WANT TO PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE. Mind, i could say whatever i want as no one actually reads my posts.
That's not very nice. We're plenty friendly, over here in Gamertown.

You've admitted to being pro-pirate, i.e., not paying for good or services rendered.

I pay for all my goods and services rendered, so what exactly am I being hypocritical about? Or this another logical fallacy of ridiculous rhetoric about how I'm just a corporate tool?

Damn kids and their ideas.

I'm interested in hearing other people's estimations of any dominant traits that come to mind when thinking about the Escapist's forum userbase as a whole? In other words, are there any commonalities amongst the people who choose to reside here?

As far as I can tell, based on all the threads I've browsed through, the most common description of an Escapist member is a socially-awkward atheistic lesbian combat arts master[footnote]There may be some margin of error in my research.[/footnote].
Lots and lots of teenagers. Lots of melodrama. Lots of "I don't understand this, therefore, everyone who likes it is stupid." Lots of "Here's the reason my game can beat up your game - wait, what is this empirical data of which you speak?" Oversensitivity runs rampant. Lots of "this is immensely popular, but I don't get it, so it sucks."
