I've PVPd in Dark Souls for what seems like 2 years now. And I can safely say that their will always be scum.

I mean several months after release I was that honor guy who always bowed and expected others to do the same and hated people who camped with two phantoms and gestured their dickhead gesture thinkin they were pro for winning a 3v1. Then after months and months of fair duels with friends and fighting 3v1 after 3v1 after cookie cutter player after 3v1...
I GOT GUD.
Now I get a rush from fighting 3v1s, win or lose I have fun. I know how to counter backstab fishers and spammers, know about most weapon's parry windows, only bow with people I'm cool with, and recently killed 2 hackers. I also like to use cheap weapons, magics and ring combos for hatemail. Its worth it.

In other words Lordran is not a place of honor, its a place full of scum who are out for your blood. And I like those scum, they make up the game's world and they're fun to kill/be.
I love this scummy game. :)

Ive started playing this game recently and it amazes me how often I can go left or right, I choose left and theres a giant I have no chance of beating. No warning, no nothing.

Can someone explain why Id want to be human? Im spending most of my time as a zombie unless im fire building and can see no advantage of being human. I had 1 helpful phantom but have never been invaded. I didnt like that phantom as I felt he was stealing my souls with his kills.

How do I become a phantom in someone elses game? I see no option? How do I grief other players? Im very new at this and cannot find a suitable forum.

You both get less souls when fighting normal enemies together, but the tradeoff of having someone else take damage for you is well worth it. You also get full souls for defeating a boss, and an extra humanity.

I have no idea why being human is better other than the obvious being able to summon, but I've recently taken to being human as much as possible and am having an easier time in the game, despite invasions. Go figure.

To get summoned as a friendly player you need to talk to Solaire after the Taurus Demon. He'll give you a yellow soapstone. You can use that to plonk your summon sign down and hope for the best.

For invading there's a few options. The easiest is using a Red Eye Orb. Other options are linked to the covenants and only become accessible much later on.

Thanks for getting back to me. So thats what my soap stone does, I thought it was so I could leave idiot messages about jumping off cliffs.

Does it matter where I put my mark with it? So I use it in blight town, Im half way through the catacombs and someone hits summon. Do I teleport to BT? What happens if I die in someone elses game? When Im done will I reappear in the catacombs or in BT?

Ive been looking for advice etc but theres not much easily found on the internet and Im avoiding walk throughs. Simple stuff like can I parry any sword attack, like big guy overhead swings?

Do you think youre finding it easier because you know the game now rather than being human? Or are you getting far better treasure? Ive been using the drake sword I managed to glitch the idiot AI into handing over and cant see any item drop making me change (although I do rock a spear from time to time).

I you're looking for advice you can always check one of the tree dark souls wikis. You can avoid walktroughs etc by avoiding the Boss and location pages and by just looking at the gameplay mechanics etc.

http://darksoulswiki.wikispaces.com/
http://darksouls.wikia.com/wiki/Dark_Souls_Wiki
http://darksouls.wikidot.com/

You can parry almost everything except for the jumping attack and backstabs, parry/riposte. (Im not sure about the egghead larvae attack ^^ so if you come across anyone mad enough that uses it try to parry it and let me know will ya)

Being human has no effect on the items you find. But having (liquid) humanity, the number in the circle left of your health bar, will increase your chances. Having one humanity will increase your item find from 100 to 150% every humanity after that will increase the item find slightly until a hard cap of 210% at 10 or more humanity.

Aside from that having humanity you will also let you deal more damage with certain "chaos" weapons. Again with a hard cap at 10 humanity.

As for your summoning sign made, you have to leave it in the area you currently are otherwise it ll disappear. And the best place to leave it is usually at the bonfire closest to the area boss. So you can both help people get to the boss and help defeat him. Alternatively you can also leave it right in front of the boss area.

If you die as a friendly summon you respawn at your last bonfire (in your world), but with your souls and humanity intact.

Hope this helped. If you want to know anything else just ask.

I only played Demons Souls and stayed in Spirit form most of the time actually everytime I revived by killing a boss I would kill myself in the nexus to immediately re-enter spirit form so that I could control the world alignments easier and ofc not be invaded.

I only summoned once for the hell of it and I got some helpful dood so the few times I allowed myself to be summoned I helped out as well.

I tried some brief PVP at the end but it wasnt for me but there were a lot of people using that stupid spear just so they could wreck your equipment so even if they lost the fight odds are it would cost you more.

If you dont like being invaded you can always go offline.

Iv'e recently started playing myself. Well, somewhat recently. I had no idea they could shut gates though, I knew they could open them, but I was pretty sure its a one way process on the big ones.

There are a lot of people who get themselves killed several dozen times just to get their hands on some too OP equiptment for beginners and then level just enough to use it to grief other players, but there are also people who help against that. Join the way of white(cleric at fireshrine), or the sun Lord covenants(golden statue beyond the dragon) to decrease your chances of getting invaded as well as increase the number of players nearby to summon. As for dealing with them if they do invade though, summon people if your going to play in human form, and don't be afraid to be cheap back because they aren't going to play fair if they are invading. Using the miracle force to blow them of cliffs, or if your higher some sorceries if you get your hands on them like the one that turns you into a random prop are good to catch them off guard too.

Suffice to say, you will face less of them as you level because they keep their levels low to overpower people who are new and playing normally, and they more than likely don't want to hang out in the harder dungeons as they have to risk death too to get there.

Actually I was once playing with a friend of mine and got invaded (I was the host), after waiting some time to deal with the invader he finally showed up. He didnt look like those guys that come out of nowhere and kill with one hit with their OP weapon, he just came near and pointed to the sides so I told my friend to stay out of the fight and just spectate. We both bowed and started the fight, I ended up loosing but the fight still went for a while. Overall it was a good day.

The worst for me are the guys at the forest that run away in the direction of those dudes guarding it.

Like to say that people love to be dicks when there is no way they can get beat up for it. For some random person to mess with you, they have no connections to you at all. At the very least, you are just another stranger that likes the same game they do. They lived next to you, or you knew where they were in real life, they might be a little more hesitate to do it. Do not take it seriously or personally, people love to be dicks to strangers.

If only invaders could shut the massive gates at Anor Londo, and force the host to go through the archers again. That would be hilarious.

Yeah, it's not that common, most of the time what you get is top-tier pyromancy and chaos weapons on SL1s. But I myself have enjoyed a bit of trolling. I once left the fog wall above the boar at Undead Parish up, got invaded as a host, ran through the gate, waited for the invader to follow me, did a loop and closed the gate, essentially rendering them unable to reach me. They BSC'd out, as I expected, but not until 5 minutes later of trying to get to me. ^^

Some other things I've done at some point or another: Poisoned payers with poison arrows at a point where they are unlikely to have moss and waited for them to die, buffed the giant cats in Darkroot with the Channeler's Trident, used Gravelord Greatsword Dance to force a phantom off a bridge so I could deal with the host 1v1, used the Hellkite Drake to kill high level invaders, and used the Force miracle to kill someone at the bridge where they try to get the Drake Sword. In my defence, the guy ran out of arrows and I dropped them fire arrows until they got the sword, but then I certainly Forced them right off the side.

But I'm not only a douchebag. I also co-op a fair bit more than the average player, especially on my low-level invaders. But that's not the topic here. ^^

"Being summoned to another world as a dark phantom."

Oh sweet, a summo... wait, what the firetruck? I don't even HAVE the red soapstone!
It's not uncommon, I've personally been trying to invade people and been summoned as a white phantom and helped defeat the boss on several occasions. I have no idea how.

The experiences here presented is why when people squeal on forums to make my beloved single player experiences multiplayer based, I cringe.

Everyone is an asshole.

Backstab

Dark Souls PvP is a game you get good at by losing. Learning how to roll to avoid being backstabbed, parry times, what builds are more proficient than others? That all comes with getting your shit kicked in. But when you get good at it, woah boy, you're in for a treat.
[small][small]PvP is still really broken though[/small][/small]
