[Fable II] Get a Badge, Win Fabulous Prizes
From:System Message
Sent:17 Oct 2008 9:41 am
In the past we've had some trouble letting people know about our big events, so we're trying something new here to get the word out.

First up, our Fable II contest. We're giving away a copy of Fable II, an Xbox 360 Elite and a Samsung 37" 1080p HDTV to the winner, and all you need to do is head over to the contest page and enter. Put in your entry and on Friday, October 24th we'll draw one winner from the least popular alignment to win.

But that's not all - in conjunction with the contest, we've been running a little game in the profile for the past week that can give you a second chance to enter. If you answer at least 5 questions (one per day) you'll get a second entry in the contest for your resulting alignment.

To top it all off, anyone that finishes 5 or more questions in the profile game will also get a badge for their alignment whether or not they enter the contest. You can only get one, and you can't get it any other way. There are 8 days remaining, so there's still time to get that badge!

Huh. I never knew the Escapist spams. You'd think they's just post it on the front page without stuffing our mailboxes full of crap. I mean, what the hell?

Rant below.

Oh yes, because I'm sure that one, singular message really overloaded your inbox, what with the numerous PMs I'm certain you get on an hourly basis.

Come on, it is one PM, I can't believe it massively inconvenianced you.

I especially hate it when they send us a pm every time we get quoted....
Yeah, although some of us actually read the note at the end telling us how to turn it off.

you can turn that feature off, but I suppose they sent that message to cover their bases so when the event ends they don't have hundreds of members whining that they never even heard such a thing was happening, or the off chance that they did it so that they give everyone (in the US) a fair chance of playing the game, shame on them for thinking of the members.

Personally I thought it was a very good idea. I didn't mind the chance to win a free Xbox 360 at all.

Do you mind having the chance to win an Xbox 360, along with various other goodies? If you do, you really need to re-evaluate your life goals.

Apologies Abound.

if you don't like what they do with their service, stop using the site

the fact is if they wish to send everyone a message they can, it's their site to do with what they want. frankly it didn't really ruin my day or bother me too much.

Woopty do, one message on your inbox, it's not spam unless there's something like 10.
And why is this in reviews?

Yeah, you'd think they'd be able to differentiate between the US and the rest of the world.

Well, for one thing, the country in your profile isn't a definitive setting. For example, I don't think wilsonscrazybed is actually living in Vatican City. I could be wrong though, it is the internet, he could even be the pope.

Second, the game (and related badge) is open to everyone regardless of location, and I wanted to make sure that nobody was complaining come next Friday that it wasn't fair they didn't get the badges because they didn't know.

And finally, just because you might not be interested or able to enter, there's always the chance that you'd have friends or relatives that would be.

We've had quite a few comments from people on the forums that we haven't advertised things we did in the past enough, despite the fact that we would have news posts, banners on the front page, and sticky forum threads about things we're doing. So I decided to try something new. If you have a better idea, you're welcome to share it.

Then you should turn that off [/profiles/forum_options] in the forum options, like it says at the end of every one of the messages.

I guessed right then in my last post.

If you happen to know a lawyer specializing in international contest law, that works for cheap, we'd love to be able to do the bigger contests without having to worry about the location of the winners. Unfortunately, we don't.

I think we usually do a pretty good job of including everyone, but when we're talking about something of this value we can't take that risk.

Truth be told, when I saw that Fable II "choose your action" poll thing, on my profile when I first logged on, I assumed it was a third-party ad, and didn't click on it out of fear of unwanted cookies, tracking, and other unpleasant stuff.

Now I realize there's a badge to be had, and an entry to the contest... unfortunately, I got busy on the days before and I missed the "more than 5" clicks requirement. Oh well... being in Mainland China, I'm not eligible anyway.

I'm glad I got some clue of it, though. Maybe next time, on Fable III?

Canadian contests are pretty easy, excluding quebec (pun intended). i don't think there's much to our laws really, i know there is a skill testing question involved usually

quebec on the other hand has a TON of stupid regulations
