I do the same thing! ha! personally as of late I've been medicated as hell to deal with other issues that make me sleepy but when I couldn't sleep I day dream, sometimes to the point where I wouldn't want to fall asleep but I just drifted away. It also helped me get less nightmares I think.zoozilla said:I'm in the same state as you, man.
Funny thing is, I'll be pretty tired, so I'll get ready to go to sleep - brush my teeth, that kind of stuff. Then I'll slide into bed, and I'm just not sleepy anymore.
I can spend hours just lying in bed before finally drifting off to sleep.
The other thing I do is keep reminding myself of the fact that I'm trying to sleep, so when I started drifting off into dreamland I'll think, "All right. I'm finally going." which of course snaps me out of it and I'm wide awake again. It's infuriating.
I tried this, but found that since I had my eyes closed, I couldn't tell when it had been 30 minutes! So I set my alarm to go off after 30 minutes so I wouldn't be keeping myself awake by lying too long. I finally got to sleep and it woke me up wtf?!xitel said:Honestly, I just lie there and try to go to sleep. It takes me about 45 minutes to an hour, and it's annoying as hell, but it works.
EDIT: I've been told that when you can't get to sleep, you aren't supposed to just lie there. You're supposed to alternate 30 minutes of lying with your eyes closed, then get up and go somewhere else, like a chair or something, and read a book or forums for 15 minutes, then try to go to sleep again.
