First of all, the N64 demo for Final Fantasy tells me that it was planned for the N64, not the SNES (Nintendo Playstation was an SNES with a cd add on). Do you see a demo for the Nintendo Playstation on YouTube? They could have planned it for the SNES right after Final Fantasy VI came out but the demo was on the N64 and that's where the early dev time went.
Go back to You-Tube - that tech demo is mislabeled. Right below, in the comments, someone explains that the above demo is actually for the Nintendo Play Station (two words). NOT the N64. The original poster labeled it wrong.

Secondly, do you have any proof that you read this stuff on the Square Enix site, get a link so I can go read it myself. I didn't ask you to take my word for it about the N64 demo, I gave you a link so do the same for me.
Go to Square Enix's site.

Or, Google "FF7 Remake on PS3" - that's how I found that article, a few years ago.
That video is on youtube a number of times and why should we believe this one poster instead of everyone else who has posted the video as a tech demo for the N64. It certainly looks like N64 graphics to me, not SNES graphics. Could be Play Station graphics but I doubt it and we have nothing to compare it to.

Square went with Sony when they realized Final Fantasy VII would not fit on a cartridge and that the Ultra 64 would be using cartridges instead of Cd's and they wanted the FMV's that only the Playstation could provide. They didn't start Final Fantasy on the Playstation though, it was intended for the N64.

It is a linear game like FFX13, its just that the battle system wasn't ass so people enjoyed it. That's why they aren't remaking FFF12 (same system) or FFVII. Those games would have to be open world and they said they are REMAKING it guys, with the FFXIII engine, so that would take years. Square is currently busy with Versus, this XIII-2 and maybe KH3. They don't have time to make a next gen FFVII

Now this is much better than "OMG I PLAYZ SO MUCH GAMEZ AND THIS ONE REALLY SUKS"

I liked Tidus, and I'm also playing the international version at the moment.
Sure, he was weird a bit in some situations and he has the whole "This is my story" going on a lot. but he was likable, the characters were physically weird but also very Final Fantasy like and to me, enjoyable.
People berate Tidus as being useless to the story and unimportant to the events taking place, but I don't think that's the case. Overall, Yuna's struggle is the one that saves the world from Sin, but it could not have been done without Tidus. Perhaps the most compelling thing relating to Tidus was his relation to Sin. Although I'm not sure this is enough to make him say "This is my Story"....

I can't believe that people till this day, still criticize the game on the "ha-ha-ha" phase.
What about the other 99% of the game that exists?

Whiners most of them.
Bring up FFX, and someone is bound to say "I'm just going to leave this here." and embed the video to the laughing scene.

It's pretty much become the token knee-jerk response to any FFX thread. Even years ago when I first played this game, I saw this particular scene unfold and when it ended, my response was something like "Well..... wtf? lol okay."
AND THEN I MOVED ON.

Even amongst my friends, whom all were playing FFX like I was, it was never mentioned. We discussed the story, the boss fights, character builds, etc. But this laughing scene wasn't mentioned once.
I mean, sure it was an incredibly out of place and awkward scene. But it's hardly the only awkward scene in an otherwise good game in existence. (Such as Dante's "WITH LIIIIIIIEEEEETTTT!!!! scene from DMC1.)

Hell even MGS4 is guilty of incredibly awkward dialogue.

>"It was never going to work out for me. It even rained the day I was born."
>"You've got it all wrong. You were the lightning in that rain. You can still shine through the darkness."

....ughhh.

I wonder how many of the people who rag on that scene have actually played the entire game?
YES! That's exactly what I mean, these days people are so spoiled with graphics that they can't enjoy a creative story. The whole I wonder how many people actually played the game bit is very VERY true.

Most of the time when people say "OMG THIS GAMZ WIRD IT SUCKS" I'll just middle-finger them and force them to play it.

It's not really forcing after a while because they TRIED it and enjoy it! Instead of basing it on just a 1% of a game scene.

Friending you by the way :]

This is going to sound awful but the graphics are just fucking awful!

Ten was good, no doubts here, but i think 8 would gain the most from a reboot, just from a visual standpoint. Story could use a little work, but talk about a game not aging well, just try to play that thing on a HD tv.
It'll sound awful that the graphics are? No, not really. I mean, that's the main reason I want an FFVII remake done. Actually, it's pretty much the only reason...it's got the dubious distinction of being the FF game that's hardest on the eyes. The graphics out of VIII or IX were a major step up, which isn't to say that they've aged well, just that they've aged slightly better by comparison. Every time I play VII, I'm worried my eyes'll start bleeding, or something.

I have no idea how long I have been playing, I just got to a point and was thinking "I am not enjoying this at all" so I just stopped playing it. I have just checked and I am up to level 11, 1942 gil, time 12:48 at wall market.
If that's the case, then I really can't berate you for stopping. When you realize you're not having fun with it, it's time to move on. With that said...was it less fun because you got lost, or something? I mean...thirteen hours? That seems excessive...

With FFX I get just passed the end of the story and stop playing, something about grinding my face off to kill the dark aeons, Penance and Nemesis doesn't seem worth it. Also trying to get ultimate weapons like Lulu's dodge the lightening 200 times ... fuck the guy who thought that was a good idea!
Yeah...the grind is more or less something I do when I can't sleep. Either I'll pass the time, or fall asleep...but that doesn't make it something I'll just go ahead and restart. As to Celestial Weapons, I found Wakka's and Tidus' to be the most tedius; I got Lulu's in one go.

Nobody liked Tidus eventhough it's "his" story he was created so he can help Yuna on her journey. Overall FFX is Yuna's story Tidus is around as a plot device. Hell him fading away at the end of the game proves that he wasn't suppose to be around after he finished his goal.
I just interpreted that as being his story because it was the *only* story with him in it. Then X-2 happened...

Well, the villain does look like this:

Let's just say that gamers who haven't played it before won't be impressed.
The villain of VI looks like this

What, if anything, is your point?
If I saw the villain of FFX, I would laugh.
If I saw the villain of FFVI, I would avoid him on every conceivable level.
Oh come on. The blue hair just nullifies any form of intimidation.
And I'm pretty sure you'd avoiud Seymour too if you don't want to see hium slip off his Kimono.
Even if I didn't know what either of them did, I would avoid Kefka if only because clowns creep me out.

Don't really see why so many people moan about FF7 all the time, FF7 has gotten a lot of service over the past few years from Square Enix, FF7 fanboys and girls, sit back and let other games step in the spotlight for a change, ok?

Let's see what FF7 has gotten:
-A movie,
-An anime 'prequel',
-A sequel game,
-A prequel game,
-A release on the PSP (Read: Portable),
-An upgrade of the aforementioned movie.
-Special hardware versions of the PSP and PS3

And most of you FF7 fanboys still have the nerve to ask for more? Be happy with all the stuff Square has given you to expand on the game's universe and its story and understand that there are people out there that like other games and would like Square to pay attention to those games.

I myself always loved FFX, there are so many things the game did right in my books.
For one, the environment of the game was awesome, I loved the colorful subtropical / tropical environments in the game. FFX was a game that didn't look dark, gritty or medieval, instead the game had a mellow tropical island look. For me, the game had a strong 'feel good' vibe going on in the graphics, overall aesthetics department and I loved it for it.

Secondly, the battle system. I never really liked the Real Time battle systems in previous Final Fantasy games, although having the enemies attack you at their whim is neat, I preferred a more relaxed pace. Especially after the crapfest that was FF9 ( My main gripe being the awful lag between inputting commands and actions actually being performed ) I welcomed the turn-based battle system of FFX. Not only because you were able to select your commands at your own pace but you could see the order of turns on the screen, this added a new layer of 'depth' and strategy to the game, I find. Some may argue that this made the battles a wee bit easy, I found it a welcome addition to the games. For me, the FFX battle system is the best I have ever encountered in an RPG.

And this is where I stop with my list, because I would just be regurgitating stuff already said by people in this thread before me.

Although I will add this one final thing: I hope that they WON'T fix the lip syncing of the characters. For me, this little detail added to the feeling of the game being a story told by Tidus, I don't know why but instead of being annoyed by it, it is one of my loved parts of the game. Along with Tara Strong's voice of Rikku, they better not take that out! Rikku wouldn't be Rikku without ( this goes for every voice though! ) ( And the mannerisms of, for example Rikku, the way she does the paw-like thing with her hands when she speaks )

So it's too expensive to remake Final Fantasy VII but not Final Fantasy X?
They'd have to completely re-create all of VII - there's absolutely nothing they could salvage from the awful 1st generation PS1 engine.
Compared to that remastering a PS2 game is much less cost- and time-intensive.
That would be true if Squeenix was PORTING FFX. But they're not. They're remaking it.

Squeenix isn't able to directly reuse modeling data from either game; they must, in fact generate all of that content from scratch, using either original as a frame of reference and nothing more.

It would cost every bit as much to create an animated, detailed model of Cloud Strife as it would to create Tidus under the same programming and system (presumably, the PS3 dev-kit). The same logic applies to the levels, the enemies, and even the bloody CGI movies.
