I don't know why everyone defends SE in their refusal to do a VII remake, sure I rather they give the series closure(the cliffhanger ending of DoC didn't really do that) but I still want a remake.
I know it would take a lot of resources and time but so does every other game they put out, and most of them don't sell all that well and they still put huge amounts of money and time into them.
At least they have the story characters, locations, and just about everything done. They can think of the first game as concept work as they build the new game
besides the profit they would make on that game would be insane, even if you claim you hate FFVII all of you hipsters know you secretly enjoy it, you just want to be cool by being out
and yes FF VII haters are hipsters!
There's a difference between impossible and stylish and impossible and laughable. Seymour isn't even near that line, he's so ridiculous that I couldn't stop laughing every time he was on screen, and seeing how he's the most present villain, that's not a good sign.
I don't know about you, but I don't play video games for realism. I play them for the fantastic.
And I have to say, crazy blue hair is pretty awesome. We humans don't get to have natural hair colours like blue and green and all that. But we ought to. And that's why they belong in video games. If I wanted realism instead of a personally appealing escapism, I'd be outside doing something, not playing video games.
And I don't know about you, but I'd take that crazy hair in Final Fantasy over those garishly musclebound dudes in Gears of War anyday.

The only thing I could possibly think of in terms of bad aging are when characters speak without moving their mouths. Then again, I'm a massive fan of X, so I'm prone to bias there. I doubt I'll be getting the remaster though. I can't be bothered to try and beat Sinspawn Gui again.
Yep, preach it. (I'm also not ready to re-play FFX, but that's besides the point.)
I don't care for this remastered version and I won't be getting it. The good thing I see in this is that at least those that no longer have a PS2 will be able to play FFX.
On topic. I am sick of going into a FF thread and read nothing but total and utter admiration for FF7! It is put on such a high golden pedestal that no game deserves, they are so fanatical about the damn thing!
I played 7 and got bored, I plowed through for another hour or 2 and it was such a fucking chore ... I never even got that far in, I am few hours past saving that girl from a church and it's an ordeal so far.
I think...this was the *off*-topic part of your post.
I agree that it seems pretty overrated on these forums, which feels odd to think, let alone type, being something of an FFVII fanboy myself (ask me about anything in-game, and I can tell you all you need to know). Addressing your particular problem with it...the game picks up shortly after leaving Midgar, though, sadly, the fastest I've ever gotten out is just more than two and a half hours, which is practically a speedrun time. I've heard it takes some up to eight.

FFX I love, I can find faults with it but over all I love it. "it's got bad voice acting" has it? I never noticed, seems fine to me. "the laughing scene is so awkward" it's meant to be!
Not that I have read up on it but I bet they are just making it in secret, then like a week before it's release, they announce it and the fanboys explode ... there is no way a business wouldn't make a game that they know would make them MILLIONS, maybe even billions!
Are you talking about the FFVII remake? Making it in secret would indeed be a fantastic marketing ploy...so long as they had a great deal of advertisement during that week leading up to release.
As far as faults in FFX are concerned, they seem relatively minor compared to all the game does right. With that said, grinding out three copies of [Break HP] [Break MP] [Ribbon] [HP +30%] armour has so thoroughly pissed me off that I've considered trashing my game on multiple occasions...before quickly remembering just how much I paid to have it.
As far as this 'updated version' goes, I have no motivation to get it, at time of writing. I have far too much invested in my current copy, and have no PS3 on which to play it. Then again, if the stars align and the FFVII remake winds up being made, I'm willing to purchase a PS3 just for that, and, if said alignment also results in the FFX remake being the international version, well...I may yet buy it after all.
I am excited for it. And no, it's not going to be just a port, Squenix said that they're remaking it on on the FFXIII engine.
So all the individuals in the thread who keep saying it will be a lazy port, feel free to put your foot in your mouth.
This is going to sound awful but the graphics are just fucking awful! I even remember being put off when I first played it when it was only a year or two old. Resident evil was released a year before it and looked a billion times better! Especially the character models, the people have hooves and skinny forearms with no elbows.
I have no idea how long I have been playing, I just got to a point and was thinking "I am not enjoying this at all" so I just stopped playing it. I have just checked and I am up to level 11, 1942 gil, time 12:48 at wall market.
Yeah, if they are making 7 in secret it would make fanboys have heart attacks. They would just have to reveal on IGN on another big site and nothing more and the net would just light up with the FF7 release date and it would sell like crazy! I bet people would go without food or paying bills and start camping out 2 days before it's release to be one of the first to get FF7 in HD ...
With FFX I get just passed the end of the story and stop playing, something about grinding my face off to kill the dark aeons, Penance and Nemesis doesn't seem worth it. Also trying to get ultimate weapons like Lulu's dodge the lightening 200 times ... fuck the guy who thought that was a good idea!
Oh and the sphere grid is fucking huge, how to people complete that thing. I remember having a cheat disk and putting on infinite master spheres (which unlocks anything) and just watching tv while pressing x, so I unlocked the closest spheres with every 3 presses, after 30 mins I hadn't even unlocked half the grid with Tidus.
Still all that stuff is just added goodies after the main story so I don't really count them as full on flaws.
I have a PS2 copy of FFX (which I got really cheap, I think) and I have a PS3, so depending on my cash situation at the time of release I will get it ... I won't play it till release and I haven't played it in about a year so I will enjoy it again when it is released.
I agree with what he said about Tidus being well, terrible. But not because I require my male lead characters to be bubbling crockpots of testosterone with giant truck sized all-american pectorals. But because I just thought Tidus was a bad character. His personality, his appearance, and his voice. I did not like anything about him.
Sure there was nothing implicitly "manly" him. But he was a sports superstar and apparently one of the most famous and skilled players in existence with a legion of fans and women. Sure you can say this was supposed to be some kind of ironic over compensation on his part to hide his insecurity and crippling daddy issues. But none of this makes him a tolerable and compelling character.
He's also a good example as to why I absolutely hate the art direction this game took. Some monsters and machinas look really cool. But the characters themselves are literally painful for me to look at.
No I don't demand "realism" either. One of my most favorite Final Fantasies is 9, which out of the playstation games, had the most unrealistic art direction. And more unrealistic than 10, as well.
OT: Regardless of what people on here say, FFX has a huge fanbase and was very successful, even critically. I've heard talk of "rebuilding" the game on FF13's engine? I'm not sure what that means, but I don't really think this should take much effort compared to how much money they'd make from it.
Will I get it again? Maybe. My PS2 is borked and I wouldn't mind playing through it again. FFX has a lot of bad things about it, but I loved the combat system, the boss fights, and even though a lot of the characters (especially Tidus) are unbearable, I thought the story was pretty good overall and contains some very serious subjects.

That "hahahaha" line was supposed to make listeners cringe. They were forcing themselves to laugh. I used to hold hope that almost everyone bashing the voice acting of X for that laugh was just being incredibly tongue in cheek. But apparently. That scene pulled off exactly what it was supposed to pull off.
I wish I could take this scene as a joke played on us all. Even if what you say is true, then I think it's the most out-of-place scene in the entire game. Personally, I found no other instances in which a scene was as awkwardly grating and off-putting as this one.
So I'm willing to go with occam's razor on this and say the entire scene was one big fuck-up rather than a subtle and ingenious sequence meant to make us re-examine the seriousness of the game, ourselves, and our worldly outlook on life in general.
So why, why on earth would Final Fantasy X suck? It doesn't.
I definitely don't think it sucks. As much as I criticize it, I still like it. And I probably would play it again (Especially if it's the international version.)
I can criticize every Final Fantasy I've played, but I don't think I've played one that I've completely and utterly disliked.

Now this is much better than "OMG I PLAYZ SO MUCH GAMEZ AND THIS ONE REALLY SUKS"
I liked Tidus, and I'm also playing the international version at the moment.
Sure, he was weird a bit in some situations and he has the whole "This is my story" going on a lot. but he was likable, the characters were physically weird but also very Final Fantasy like and to me, enjoyable.
I can't believe that people till this day, still criticize the game on the "ha-ha-ha" phase.
What about the other 99% of the game that exists?
Ten was good, no doubts here, but i think 8 would gain the most from a reboot, just from a visual standpoint. Story could use a little work, but talk about a game not aging well, just try to play that thing on a HD tv.
loved X with a passion!! great story of beating the system, addictive characters (aside from lulu/yuna/rikku fan porn pics or whatever, they exist, we all know it, even if some of us haven't seen them), and the list goes on.
why the hell not remaster it???
not the best game of all time, but it deserves it! c'mon.

From what I heard, it's going to be a port in the normal wording. Unless they add a lot to the game it's a port, same went for Star Fox 64 3D, Nintendo said it was a remake re-built for the 3DS but...it was a bloody port for the most part. Hell Zelda OoT 3D is a port (Nintendo said Star Fox 64 3D was a remake and OoT 3D was a port) and it was just a graphical update. To be honest I think "port" and "remake" are f'ing buzz words that publishers use to make them excited. More people would be put off by a port of a game last gen (Like Devil Survivor: Overclocked was a port of a 2 year old game) then a remake.
I'm not saying FF10 is a port or remake I rather wait and see cause I tire of publishers using buzz words to hype the people and showing little to nothing. Kinda like when they have CGI trailers with no gameplay and feel that is enough.
Also using the FF13 engine, sounds like they will be porting it to that engine...put then again I rather wait and see what happens.

People berate Tidus as being useless to the story and unimportant to the events taking place, but I don't think that's the case. Overall, Yuna's struggle is the one that saves the world from Sin, but it could not have been done without Tidus. Perhaps the most compelling thing relating to Tidus was his relation to Sin. Although I'm not sure this is enough to make him say "This is my Story"....
I can't believe that people till this day, still criticize the game on the "ha-ha-ha" phase.

Bring up FFX, and someone is bound to say "I'm just going to leave this here." and embed the video to the laughing scene.
It's pretty much become the token knee-jerk response to any FFX thread. Even years ago when I first played this game, I saw this particular scene unfold and when it ended, my response was something like "Well..... wtf? lol okay."
AND THEN I MOVED ON.
Even amongst my friends, whom all were playing FFX like I was, it was never mentioned. We discussed the story, the boss fights, character builds, etc. But this laughing scene wasn't mentioned once.
I mean, sure it was an incredibly out of place and awkward scene. But it's hardly the only awkward scene in an otherwise good game in existence. (Such as Dante's "WITH LIIIIIIIEEEEETTTT!!!! scene from DMC1.)
Hell even MGS4 is guilty of incredibly awkward dialogue.
>"It was never going to work out for me. It even rained the day I was born."
>"You've got it all wrong. You were the lightning in that rain. You can still shine through the darkness."
....ughhh.
I wonder how many of the people who rag on that scene have actually played the entire game?
I actually don't know what my problem was (and sorry for typos). It wasn't not for the reason you wrote but simply because he was not nearly as interesting as Yuna. It also did not help that he was an idiot who wasn't able to keep it for himself where he is from... and this goddamn "this is my story".
Nobody liked Tidus eventhough it's "his" story he was created so he can help Yuna on her journey. Overall FFX is Yuna's story Tidus is around as a plot device. Hell him fading away at the end of the game proves that he wasn't suppose to be around after he finished his goal.
Chrono Trigger also had a similar team production, and has similar problems, but FF7 had exactly the same thing happen to it. Interviews with the chief creator confirmed this several years ago, when he answered the question of why he wasn't currently working on an FF7 remake.

Sorry, I misspoke. I meant that the maps were made with the SNES architecture from FF VI. That why, walking around in Midgard or wherever, it feels like you're in an old 2-D FF game from the SNES - because you are, except that pretty backgrounds have been laid over top of the 2-D blocks.
I believe they did that after the falling out between Nintendo and Sony - to save money.
Oh, and that said, it was never planned for the N64 - it was planned for the Nintendo Play Station. Nintendo screwing Sony over was the reason for the platform jump in the first place.

First of all, the N64 demo for Final Fantasy tells me that it was planned for the N64, not the SNES (Nintendo Playstation was an SNES with a cd add on). Do you see a demo for the Nintendo Playstation on YouTube? They could have planned it for the SNES right after Final Fantasy VI came out but the demo was on the N64 and that's where the early dev time went.
Secondly, do you have any proof that you read this stuff on the Square Enix site, get a link so I can go read it myself. I didn't ask you to take my word for it about the N64 demo, I gave you a link so do the same for me.

Go back to You-Tube - that tech demo is mislabeled. Right below, in the comments, someone explains that the above demo is actually for the Nintendo Play Station (two words). NOT the N64. The original poster labeled it wrong.
