all they have to do for FFX is to change some textures and upgrade the details
with 7, 8 and 9 they would need to redo all of the graphics, i think they will do this if they FFXHD makes enough, but it will be much more time consuming then a remastered FFX would

Anyway, what do you guys think?
It has been stated that the reason that Square isn't remaking FF7 (they have discussed it) is because the original team has been broken up and several members moved on to other companies. FF7 was crafted by a "dream team" of Squaresoft artists, and now those people are either leading half of Square's projects or working at other publishers. Those that remain said in an interview that they wouldn't feel comfortable working on a remake without the rest of the original creative team.

So basically, it's never happening because the people who made it have moved on to other things. They can't just update the original game, because it was originally designed to run on the SNES and was graphically upgraded to work on the PSX - so in a way, FF7 WAS the "HD" upgrade of itself.

Also, the voice acting alone would bankrupt Square Enix.

That said, I still want it. Which is why my certainty that it will never happen makes me so very, very sad.

The "Dream Team" was Chrono Trigger and that's why we can't get a direct sequel (Chrono Cross was a great game but not the sequel people wanted). Final Fantasy VII was to be a Nintendo 64 game, not a SNES game and moving the game to the PS1 from the N64 was absolutely not an HD upgrade.

Where exactly did you read all this or are you merging different stories into one.

Here's the N64 tech demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5l0A3zzEgw

If they are using the new Crystal Tools they will have to do more than that I'd imagine. It's not like they are dressing it up and emulating the old engine.

Well, the villain does look like this:

Let's just say that gamers who haven't played it before won't be impressed.
The villain of VI looks like this

What, if anything, is your point?[/quote]
If I saw the villain of FFX, I would laugh.
If I saw the villain of FFVI, I would avoid him on every conceivable level.

I say support it. FFX was a decent game really and also if enough people go along with this maybe it'll encourage the company to remaster other titles as well.

I don't understand why they feel the need to remake anything.

when you start spouting the word remake around you're basically filing for creative bankruptcy

but if I had to vote for the final fantasy game they should remake I'd say FFVII with the battle system of X

I'd like to know what kind of hair spray Seymour uses.

May the lineage of Square be thirce cursed, vile fiends only releasing it on the PS3. I may just have to get a PS3, what good exclusives are there so I'm not paying hundreds of dollars to play a prettier FFX.

10 has beautiful cutscenes and runs on a fairly standard engine that can be tweaked. Tweak the ff7 engine all you want, it still looks like polygons. X has all the voice acting already done, synched with the music and recorded. VII would have to be entirely recorded from scratch.

VII would be a huge investment. X is just a graphics team and a year from a remake. One of these makes a lot more sense to invest in.

But they aren't tweaking the existing engine, they are remaking it in Crystal Tools. Given the amount of hate the voice acting gets, they may record new voice acting.

For VII, couldn't they just use the same voice actors who did Advent Children?

Well I'll be getting the updated X, but then it's often been said that I've got more money than sense.

Being the huge fan of VII that I am, I would much rather see the PS3 version of that instead of X, or instead of the numerous XIII spinoffs that seem to be everywhere right now, but I'm also a realist. I know the limitations, the problems, the team splitting up, the technical hurdles etc all make it prohibitive.

That's not to say a trecherous part of me isn't holding out for a 20th anniversary release of it though. ;)

Wait...did they darken Seymour's hair this time around? That's a little odd.
It's from the CG scene at the blitzball attack I believe, his hair was a much darker blue in the CG scenes throughout the game. Image is from normal PS2 version aswell.

I loved Final Fantasy X, quite a lot. Infact I'd say it's one of my favorite PS2 games, right up with the Sly Cooper series. It'll be quite interesting to see this FFX remake.

(Let me preface this by saying that FFX is one of my absolute favorite games ever and, in my opinion, the best installment in the series)

Did you hear the news? FFX is getting remastered!
Where did people get the idea this is a remaster? Its a full on remake in HD.

http://www.psu.com/Rumor--Final-Fantasy-X-HD-made-using-Final-Fantasy-XIII-engine---a013050-p0.php

Only the cutscenes and the backgrounds are remastered, everything else is remade from the ground up using the new engine.
I loved the FFX battle system, too. And this worries me a little. Please tell me they aren't going to replace FFX's battle system with FFXIII's. T___T(I can't access that link, for some reason it gives me an error)
Heh, I'm aboard that train. I really enjoyd the combat in X and when I think of the 'press 'A' to beat the game system of XIII I cringe in fear of a replacement.
There is a problem with the combat though.

Status effects are fucking useless, you either use them on an immune boss or on an enemy that you can one hit anyway with just a normal attack.

It also takes forever to do a little fight, waiting for animations and the little victory theme at the end of every fight.

On topic. I am sick of going into a FF thread and read nothing but total and utter admiration for FF7! It is put on such a high golden pedestal that no game deserves, they are so fanatical about the damn thing!

I played 7 and got bored, I plowed through for another hour or 2 and it was such a fucking chore ... I never even got that far in, I am few hours past saving that girl from a church and it's an ordeal so far.

FFX I love, I can find faults with it but over all I love it. "it's got bad voice acting" has it? I never noticed, seems fine to me. "the laughing scene is so awkward" it's meant to be!

Not that I have read up on it but I bet they are just making it in secret, then like a week before it's release, they announce it and the fanboys explode ... there is no way a business wouldn't make a game that they know would make them MILLIONS, maybe even billions!

yeah, but it will still be cheaper and quicker to upgrade FFX then any FF7-9

i know what you mean, it wasnt that bad for me, i finished it and found it enjoyable, but i much prefer both FFX and FF8. I love the junction system on 8, though it was too easy to max, i had 4000 health by the end of disc 1.
