Do you have any odd habits that you always do whenever you start a brand new game.

E.g. Without exception the very first thing I do when I gain control of the character in any FPS is to look straight down to see if you can see your own feet. If you can't I denounce the developers as being lazy.

I watch the entirety of the opening credits and such. It's like my ritual to always sit through the credits of a game after I beat it (Unless the game just sucked.)

I have none of these, oddly enough. But if there's character customisation, I see if I can make him/her look like a mutant.

Ah, I do the same thing with any game that has the 1st person option... Which is why I absolutely loved Mirror's Edge. I don't get why most games lack that feature. Is it really that hard to slap on a pair of feet on a character?

I wait on the title screen to see the attract mode (the cutscene or gameplay footage). Then I proceed to the options, go in the controller settings and memorize which button does what.

Same here. Well...after I've figured out all the settings.

As for me, I go through the routine of getting everything I know how to get right there, such as the free potion you get in the early pokemon games.

Oh yes, you've also stolen my answer. I like to watch cutscenes, and especially the tutorial ones just so I know what I'm doing...

Once I get home with the game and while I'm sitting on the pot I'll read through the manual.

When I actually start the game the first thing I check is how much crack the developers were smoking when they designed the control scheme.

Read the book, I hate going into a game not knowing at least a little bit about it before-hand.

In ME2 the first thing I did was whip out a sniper rifle and check if the 'drunk guy with a rifle' aiming mechanic was still there (it's not)
