Just a bit of fun, seen as how there are a lot of hypotheticals flying about these days, first please take a minute to watch this short film.

So, would you throw your hat over the wall for the good of mankind under those circumstances? Or would you doom humanity to it's perpetual downward spiral?

And do you think we ever will really get the holy grail of transportation promised to us by the Jetsons?

Eventually, I think we will, but by then, there will be other means of transportation. And Clerks is awesome.

Undoubtedly, but I don't look forward to passing Flight School before I can move out of my parent's house.

Plus, crashes would be really common, I think.

I would not cut off my foot for the flying car. I am that selfish.

Plus, I think it would be cooler if we were all flying these instead of flying cars:

Hell no, but then I don't like heights. Also I take a sort of sick pleasure in watching the self-centered species that is the majority of humanity take a nose dive as it is doing.

I believe that the flying car is refuted in RAKtheundead's essay. I'll post a link in a second.
EDIT: Ninja'd by RAK himself.

I've had that video on my hard drive over the course of 3 computers, 30 reformats, and 7 years total and I came to the conclusion long ago that I would kidnap the German scientist, steal his invention, patent it as my own, and then kill him and all his podophallic friends before they could hack my foot off or try to claim the invention for themselves.

Already addressed the issue of flying cars before. See bottom of article.
Yea you're right it would take power or potentially nuclear proportions to make something like that work, but they are just too awesome to scrap if somebody made one. Hell I'd have one, economically viable or not.

Incidentally I would cut my foot off for the flying car, but the molestation would make me leave it alone.

People still can't drive cars well, and they have been around for almost a hundred year. I don't want overhead shrapnel falling on me too.

meh, its a bit inpractical anyway, do you know how dangerous a mid-air collision could be with flying cars? and considering how frequently they happen on the ground...

The problem with the flying car is evidenced in current automobile ownership. Maintenance is lacking and break-downs are all to common. As are wrecks caused by inattentiveness. If there is a wreck between gravity obeying vehicles, they don't end up on my kitchen table. With flying cars the likelihood of that raises dramatically.

If you want to fly just go get a piper or something. If you want to fly to work you can get small personal helicopters (surprisingly not that expensive).

I wouldn't do anything for a first generation flying car...they are going to be just as crappy as the first "normal" cars were in comparison to recent models.
So you would eventualy bite yourself in the arse (or the remaining foot your choice) 30 or so years later (i think the progress in this field will be a lot faster once the first step is taken than the progress that was made with "normal" cars) for paying a shitload of money or feet for the "piece of crap" in your walking garage (yes they will walk...shut up) wich used to be "my awesome flying car" 30 or so years earlier

Uhh...whoever made this video has way too much time on his hands.
Kevin Smith, the director of Clerks 1+2, Dogma and Zack And Mirri Make A Porno did this as a short for The Tonight Show using two of his classic characters.
