I agree for the most part, but fortunately, there are occasional outliers, such as Ghost in the Shell or Paprika. There are also a few that are good despite falling within the four groups mentioned. Berserk, for example, adds some actual characterization and emotional depth to the "RARGH FIGHTAN ERRYBODY MUST GET STRONGER" mentality of the first category (Admittedly, I've only read the manga, so maybe the anime is less well-written). Evangelion is something of a deconstruction of the mech genre, and manages to make itself believable despite having the usual raft of giant robot tropes.
But I fully concede that the vast majority of anime does fall into these categories, and suffers mightily from being a cliched mess of predictability. I'd suggest a couple more themes, too: Giant-Eyed Elementary School Girls With Magic Powers, and Angst-Ridden Self-Pity Fest (an admittedly broad category, but it turns up too often not to be mentioned).
