World of Opportunities. It's WoW but free. Yes, it's illegal if you don't buy a copy of the game first but this way you don't pay subscriptions and you can download the whole thing, with expansions, for free.
Altough it's not relevant,I'm curious, are there many people on that server, because I know there are a ton of private servers out there, especially fun servers.

I've played a lot of Tremulous and some Urban Terror. Both are Quakemods.

Also, there's loads of free FPSs out there and I won't bother posting them all, but my favourite one is S4 League.

Edit: Btw, can you tell us why we shouldn't add MMORPGs?

You could also hit up Retro Remakes for some very good updated oldies.
http://www.retroremakes.com/

There are some really good ones there, and some awful ones. The Whizball remake is awesome.

EDIT : Trying to avoid flash games because they are usually just fun little distractions but one of the best puzzle games I have played in a while is one, Manufactoria.

Knowledge of logic gates will make it a bit easier but not necessary if you have a sound logical head on your shoulders. Don't be fooled by the first few levels, it gets rather tough later on and astoundingly satisfying when you solve a level.

Well, in that case. The Chronicles of Spellborn. It's an MMORPG that went completely free, no cashshop or anything.

The Marathon series is free and excellent. Three games, downloadable with a quick Google search (sorry, I'm busy).

Oh, and if you need a nice, soothing game after that, you may want to try Eversion: http://zarat.us/tra/offline-games/eversion.html

I know cute games like that aren't something most people enjoy playing, but give it a try anyway.

For your roguelike needs, Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup: http://sourceforge.net/projects/crawl-ref/

Wiki for it here: http://crawl.chaosforge.org/index.php?title=CrawlWiki

I support all mentions of Iji, by the way. Excellent game is excellent.

Zombie Master.
It's kinda free, you just need to own a game that uses the source engine...

Here's your list
I didn't see The Suffering on that list and when I got it it was free. I reformatted since then and lost it, but a while back the US Navy (I think, might have been a different branch) sponsored it and put it up for free. Catch was that it had ads for the military in it, but it was still free.

Isn't it free because in less than an year the servers will wipe, and another publisher picks it up?(the one with RoM I think)

Star Control 2's open source is on the net. It's a great game from the early 90s.

My favorite is Nethack, an extremely brutal ascii rpg. This game is not afraid to kill you on the first level.
