There are other old friend zone topics, but the rules state that there has to be a new topic. Eh.

So, what are your experiences with the friend zone? Any stories to tell or advice to share?

I'll put in my two cents if this topic goes down well.

Take off every ZIG!
You know what you doing!

Once upon a time, I had a total hottie in the friend zone even though she didn't want to be and I didn't want her to be either.
I was just to dumb to ask her out.

I have a very shaky concept of body language, flirting, and social interaction with regards to relationships. Ergo, I know very little about the friend zone. Hell, I have to have someone tell me I'm in it.

A more appropriate question would be how the hell do you get out.

The friend zone is where you go if you fail to declare sexual attraction to a mate. If you wait too long, you end up being treated as "just friends", being told things like "I see you like a brother" and "Why can't I meet a nice guy like you?"

Men and women think differently about relationships. A man is willing to romance a female friend, or be "just friends" with a girlfriend, and adjust easily. A woman, on the other hand, either thinks of a man as a platonic friend or potential mating partner. Once she settles into one role, it doesn't change. Obviously this is a huge generalization and doesn't apply to everybody, but the general trend is there.

So when a man tries to court a woman, there is a certain tight rope he must walk. Also, it's been scientifically proven that women are much, much better at reading nonverbal cues than men. So a man can't always tell if a woman is attracted to him. If he comes on too strong, he becomes a creepy stalker, and the woman is repulsed. So the smart thing to do is to get to know the woman and ease into the relationship. But if the man takes too long and gets too comfortable with the woman, the woman starts to think of the man as just a friend. At this point, the man is in the friend zone. Trying to get out of the friend zone is extremely difficult, and could ruin the friendship altogether.

And this is why, for whatever struggles women face in the world, relationships are so much easier for women than for men.

I never understood this phrase. Every girlfriend I've ever had, I was friends with first. I don't go out with girls I don't know. That's just weird. Also some of the best couples I've known also treated each other as good friends.

Is there some misconception out there that you can't be friends with the opposite sex? Or is the phrase just a misnomer for social incompetence?

Ahh.. yes I see that now. The girl thinks you're friends but you want more than that. I've been there twice actually. As a matter of fact both of them actually used that last sentence word for word.

I dunno how you guys do it, but kissing them during a close moment seemed to knock them back to their senses that I'm pretty awesome. Maybe you guys should give that a shot? Worked 2 for 2 with me. In the short term, anyway..

Well studying in aussie I met this girl and we became good friends. I thought about taking the next step but then...

She says, "I wonder how my boyfriend back home is doing."

Not easily. some emotionally earth-shattering event has to upset the status quo such that thier view of the people around them changes.

As for myself, I've been friendzoned by like 6 girls. I even asked most of them out, as for the others, it was obvious that's where i was so i didn't bother. They're typical generic storys though. guy askes out girl, girl says "I don't feel that way about you, You're my friend." Not joking, that's how it happened. Caiti actually caught me mutter "friendzone" under my breath, and laughed. That was almost funny enough to make me laugh too.

That would be funny if it weren't true. And the ladies love any imported car.

A girl that I ended up liking for over a year. I eventually told her of my feelings but never really did anything about it. We were best friends and I guess we were both worried that we would lose that. Now she's engaged to a guy who was recently deployed to Afghanistan and I'm regretting not doing something.

Yeah, I once liked a girl and asked her out. She did the whole "But we're friends!" thing.

The sucky part is that the friend zone is basically just a poor excuse for girls to say "I like you as a person, but I wouldn't ever want to have sex with you." Not that all want is sex, but it sucks essentially being told that your genes won't cut it.

Why do I keep commenting on these things?

So putting this in physics terms, the friend zone is like a black hole and thus requires speeds exceeding 299,792,458 metres per second to escape?

You escaped the friendzone with 100% success rate? I may have to try that. then again, i do enjoy NOT getting slapped. it's something to think on.
