It is a sad truth universally acknowledged, that, while granting an experience nothing else can, good humuor is VERY hard to create. Harder, for example, than simply freshining up your graphics, when you're a major Game Developer. So it is not puzzling at all, that fewer and fewer games arrive each year with the main objective of humoring the player. I am in a grim mood today and thought it might be nice for everyone to share some games that made them genuinly laugh or were funny in any other way.

It's not THE funniest, but it's in the top 5 and I'll suggest it because i don;t think anyone else will.

Risen 2.

I've praised it loads lately, but I honestly can't say just how much some of the dialogue had me genuinely laughing out loud. Dry English style wit at it's best in parts, with some conversations (especially ones on the Ilse of Theives) having me in stitches.

Don't avoid it just because of the "meh" combat. Indulge in it, bare with the early stages until you get a firearm, then play away and enjoy the laughs.

The Neverhood is chock full of laugh-out-loud moments for me. In fact, I'd go so far as to say it was a dominant factor in shaping my appreciation for the surreal and absurd.

Nearly everything about the game tickles my funny bone, from the walking cycle [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qxeP29fhdA]. My personal favorite of the bunch is the "Weasel Chase" cutscene.

Skullmonkeys had its share of laughs as well, though they tended to be more of the gross-out variety. That combined with the drab color palette made it lose some of the original game's charm for me:

Ace Attorney series. I do not understand how they make a murder mystery that is very hilarious (and succeed). Gotta love it.

The You Don't Know Jack series. The questions are worded in a humorous manner and hearing the sarcastic responses to wrong answers are often hilarious.

I thought Psychonauts was PRETTY damn funny. Richard Horvitz (and everyone else, for that matter) is GREAT in that game; it's well-written and brilliantly acted. The little conversations you can pick up between campers are just hilarious

Armed and Dangerous is probably one of the only games I've played that I thought was genuinely funny. Ugly as hell, but funny.

Aye, I think The Monkey Island series would probably top my list.

Like yourself I've never played Grim Fandango, but have been dying to for about 20 odd years now. Looking forward to it :)

Monkey Island and Grim Fandango are great, funny games. Maybe not hilariously funny but you play them with a stupid grin on your face from start to finish.

I think the Borderlands games can be pretty funny sometimes. First time I heard the psychos singing Ride of the Valkyries in BL2 I cracked up. Still think it sounds kinda funny :p

I never played the whole thing, but most of what I did play of Saints Row 4 was pretty fucking hysterical.

A Bard's Tale was ok for the most part, had a few chuckles out of the songs and dialogue. Another game I've replayed recently is Total Overdose, it's so cheesy and OTT, with actually well done voice acting that it makes me laugh every now and then.

But the most hilarious game I've ever played, (probably unintentionally funny but whatever) is Rainbow 6 Vegas series. The things the bad guys say when you're hunting them down just takes the cake, especially when you down one of them.
"Shit, he's dead, whatdowedo?"

Paper Mario : The Thousand Year Door. The whole series has, as Yahtzee put it, 'a surprisingly anarchic sense of humour' and like everything else TTYD gets the best of it. It particularly shines in Chapters 3, 4 and 6, and each chapter gets interludes primarily designed to create humour at the expense of Bowser and Peach. I particularly enjoyed Lucahjin's blind run of it, and highly recommend it (maybe skip the parts where she's just doing sidequests, those aren't as funny).

Worms Armageddon for having better unscripted humour. All the Worms games can probably do this, but Armageddon is the one I played most and it has the best voice selection. Will always remember the Rabbi voice track's flat utterance of 'Fatality' when scoring a kill.

All the episodes of Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People.

Recently it's been Stick of the Truth. Not as funny as the tv show, but it still gave me hearthy chuckle.

Seconded. Milkman Conspiracy and Lungfish City are one of the funniest levels in a platformer, i've ever played.

And as mentioned before, Lucas adventures games are always a good pick. Regardless if it's Monkey Island, Sam and Max or Grim Fandango.

The Common Route in Grisaia no Kaijitsu is pretty much an elongated string of laugh out loud comedy scenes. I have a save file of The Knicknaming Game scene there just so I can rewatch it occasionally and I still always laugh. Then you hit actual routes and suddenly things are a whole lot less funny...
