Well, the 360 is what turned me into a gamer, really. I was just casual when I had the xbox, because it was cheap, and all I wanted to play was Halo 2. I got the 360 during the christmas of their release, so I felt guilty not playing it. And bored, since Halo 3 wasn't out. Even then, I only played CoD 2 and demos from magazines...

I guess the first game that shot me into being a gamer would be Assassin's Creed. And the thing keeping me from continuing my gamer lifestyle is lack of furking money...

Does this mean starting doing more than casual gaming, or just gaming? If it's more than casual, then Halo 3. If not.... <spoiler=..let me think>
[/spoiler] First game I can remember. Well, console game anyways. Not counting that one PC game about a forest with talking trees... which was the definition of epic. Actually, sorry if this is off-topic, but does anyone remember a game for the PC that was about talking trees?
EDIT: NVM, Found it! It's called Forestia, if anyone is interested for any reason...

The game that made me a gamer was Halo Combat Evolved. I think I've played that game more than all of my other games put together. It was awesome.

Call of Duty. I'd played games before then, when my brothers weren't playing them, like Pokemon and Crash Bandicoot. But the first CoD was the thing that got me hooked and United Offensive just sealed the Deal. I have my Dad to thank for that.

I've always loved the box art.
Yeah, same here. United Offensive was such an awesome expansion pack, pity it stopped working when the disk got scratched :(

Probably Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Mega Drive. I spent hours and hours trying to complete that game and always came back for more.

Hmmm... a tough one... mostly because my early gaming days were around the time I was 4-5 years old and I don't really remember that time. I know which games I played, but the exact order is a bit fuzzy.

I'm going to go with Dune 2 and X-Com. Those are the two games I remember playing on all-night binges and/or getting up at 5am to continue playing. They were just THAT awesome. Espcially X-Com; that's one of the best games ever made and one of my early games. Heck, I'm pretty sure that when I first played it, it was on a monochrome monitor, so I was quite suprised when I later learned the game was actually in color...

In fact, I was likewise suprised for many games, including X-Wing and Prince of Persia (the original one). Imagine trying to distinguish between the red healing potions and the blue poisonous potions when the difference is simply a slight shade of gray. :D

The earliest memory of gaming I have is playing Mortal Kombat and Sonic 2 on the Genesis, but I consider when I really got into gaming was playing Metal Gear Solid for the first time.

I have no idea because I can't remember its name!

But games of my childhood which helped were...
Banjo and Kazooie
Pokemon Yellow
Abe's exodus and Abe's odyssey
And Final fantasy VIII
Ohh joyous times of a land now gone.

I remember getting my Super Nintendo and a copy of Super Metroid for Christmas when I was 7 years old. Quite possibly the best christmas gift ever.

The music to this day still gives me goosebumps:

I became a "gamer" relatively late in life. What probably turned me into full-blown video game nerd was my purchase of Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow for the PS2. I had played plenty of other games before that, but Sam Fisher solidified my place in this wonderfully geeky commuity.

Zork I, II, and III and the Collossal Cave Adventure. Things really kicked into high gear when games like Ultima II started showing off those amazing graphics!
