Advance Wars 1 for the GBA has probably one of the best turorials of any game from the last 10 years.

It's well done, fun, and it ties into the story. Heck, I replay it every time I pick up that game (there's nothing better for long train rides btw).

EDIT:

I just remembered that the tutorials of Dawn of War 1 deserve mention: while they do a great job of explaining and showcasing the individual play mechanics of the various races, they're incredibly boringly done and don't tie into the story at all. While they're effective at teaching you the ins and outs of the faction you're playing, they're basically just a skirmish map with some voiceover from one of the developers...

Eat Lead The Return of Matt Hazard had a good tutorial. Except for when they forget to mention the sprint.

Magna Carta 2 has the longest tutorial in history.

Any tutorial that forces you to sit through it is already a bad one.

What really annoys me is when they tell you the controls in an arbitrary way, such as "action button" or "sprint button". Yeah, but which freaking button is it?! The entire point of a tutorial is to learn how to play the game and I can't learn how to play the game if I don't know what button to press, can I?

Thakfully I bypass most issues by RTFM. That goes for everything. Apart from flat packed furniture, where the instructions are wrong 50% of the time anyway.

Little Big Planet has the best tutorial ever. Sure, it walks you through every last facet of game play, holding your hand and cooing sweetly into your tender little ears but that's all part of it's appeal.
