I'm against your inclusion of 'gay/homo/******' in there; it's simple ignorance.

Rape : Utterly destroying an enemy
Newb : Someone new to the game
Noob : Someone who sucks at the game and refuses to get better or is otherwise annoying
Goomba Stomping : Killing an enemy by jumping on their head; meleeing them is optional

Also, in my experience, "Whore" is usually added on to a word, such as "Sticky Whore" for Demomen who only use the Sticky launcher. It's a feature that's incredibly unbalanced (In the Console version, at least) that, when spammed, can destroy entire enemy teams regardless of skill. Otherwise, 'Whore' is just an insult...
Stickyjumping is retarded, Pipebomb jumping is for REAL men!
Do I sense sarcasm?

No, no, I'm talking about those who would throw stickies and detonate 'em mid air. It's hopelessly overpowered on the 360 IIRC, and a single sticky whore can bring an entire team to its' knees.
I tried playing the 360 version the other day...

I didn't have much fun.

I'm just used to my Sandman, so I keep pressing alt-fire with my bat only to look like a fool and not kill anything.

And to think I used to dominate that game as a Scout. But my Scout-ness lives on in the PC version, at least.
Sandman, eeew...

I've always loved Spy, but as I've just gone downhill skillwise, then I figured out how to stop sucking, I've become quite good at Soldier. Pub Stomping, woo.
Ugh, I can't play Soldier for shit. Spy I can manage, though. The temptation to equip my Cloak and Dagger is omnipresent, however.

I will not be a noob!

Also, what's wrong with the Sandman?!
The Cloak and Dagger was oh-so fun during the spy weak. Nobody knew about the crazy spots you could hide in, and I was quick to find 'em.

The Sandman... meh, I'm actually OK with it, more or less. It's the FAN that I despise.

Surprised this one hasn't come up yet:

GG: Abbreviation for "Good Game," a polite phrase often said at the end of a match in an online First Person Shooter, whether or not the match in question was actually good.
See Also: GGs

GGs: Abbreviation for "Good Games," often used when a person is logging off of an online First Person Shooter for the night. It means that the games so far have been good, in addition to being a benediction, wishing good games on the people still playing.

Amen, brother!

That gun gives a bad name to Scouts everywhere!

It's not even that good if you suck at aiming, which I see a lot of FAN-whores aren't. The good ol' Scattergun still does insane close-up damage and has 3 times as many shots in a clip.

This is a fascinating project and an excellent diversion for me, so here's my contribution. I hope you find it useful and/or enlightening.

Screenwatching/Screenloooking: When playing against another person who shares the same television/computer screen as you do, the act of observing the other player's movement and minimap to gain additional (often considered unfair) advantages.

Ragequit: To exit a game altogether in a fit of rage, esp. as a reaction to perceived unfairness or repeated defeat.

Scrub (uncommon secondary definition): A player who deliberately refuses to get better at a given game through available means such as guides, tutorials, or videos. Distinctive from "noob," which generally refers to a new or otherwise unskilled player. See David Sirlin's Playing to Win [http://www.sirlin.net/ptw] for more information.

Frak: mild expletive; commonly substituted for "fuck" as a more acceptable interjection. See also "gorram." (from Battlestar: Galactica)

Turtle/Turtling (clarified): a (usually defensive) strategy adopted by a single player or team to take advantage of a geographic location (corner, choke point, etc).

Gorram: Substitute for "god damn." From Joss Whedon's Firefly/Serenity.

Killsteal (clarified): To claim illegitimate credit for the defeat of an opponent, usually by dealing the killing blow on a target already weakened by another party.

Hax: 1) Informal term for (usually illegal) third-party modifications to game software, intended to create advantages that are otherwise technically impossible (infinite health/ammo, increased speed to nigh-teleportation, etc). 2) An interjection voicing awe/jealousy of the luck of another player.

Ninja: 1) To steal items intended for another. Usually seen in cooperative online games/activities. 2) One who acquires items in this way. 3) One skilled in stealth-based gaming.

MMORPG: Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game. Colloquially, Mostly Men Online Roleplaying as Girls. Commonly abbreviated to MMO.

Multiboxing: To run simultaneous copies of a game from the same computer, allowing one to execute multiple actions as several different avatars at the same time (or at least within margins of time not feasible for those using multiple computers/players). Occasionally illegal; however, some companies (such as Blizzard) do not object due to the fact that each separate avatar requires an active account to maintain.

Spam (clarified): To use a single or narrow selection of abilities/items, esp. while pressing the buttons for these abilities faster than the game can process them.

Dragon Kill Points: 1) A form of currency in MMORPGs, used to determine priority and bid on loot from a completed encounter. Commonly referred to as DKP. 2) A loot prioritization system involving this currency. (From Everquest)

Nerf (clarified): The weakening of a game mechanic by the developers in order to achieve internal balance.

Buff: The strengthening of a game mechanic by the developers in order to achieve internal balance.

Soon: A colloquial term describing the time between the present and the end of the world. The assumed, albeit tongue-in-cheek, timeframe by which game developers release highly-anticipated content. (From Wowwiki, copied from the official forums. [http://www.wowwiki.com/Soon]) See also: Valve time. [http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Valve_Time]

Gank: To assault (with intent to kill) another player via an ambush or other tactical advantage.

PvE: Player versus Environment.

PvP: 1) Player versus Player. 2) Player versus Pillar, jokingly derived from the strategy by which one player hides behind an obstacle (usually a pillar) in an attempt to force one's opponent into a more advantageous position.

LoS: 1) Line of Sight. 2) To move out of this, forcing an attacking opponent to reposition/change strategy.

Carebear: 1) A player who avoids PvP gameplay. 2) (In online games) A server dedicated to PvE, such that PvP functionality is disabled in the majority of the game. (Derogatory)

Rape (clarified): To defeat another player/enemy within the context of a game, in a generally highly one-sided skirmish. Highly distinct from the act of forced sex upon another living being. Usually announced as an expression of celebration ("I raped him!") or acknowledgment of defeat ("We got raped").(Editor's note: Skill in execution has inherently nothing to do with this otherwise informal term)

Own: See Rape.

Pwn (clarified): See Own. Origin unknown; suggested to be a spelling error pronounced phonetically.

Woot: An exclamation of jubilation or excitement. Origins unknown and widely speculated on.

Guild: See clan (in original post).

Vent: Abbreviation for Ventrilo, a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP).

TS: Abbreviation for Teamspeak, a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP).

HUD: Heads-Up Display, the visible part of a gaming interface that relays information such as health, ammunition, equipment, etc. to the player.

FPS (expanded): 1) Abbreviation of the First-Person Shooter game genre. 2) Frames per second.

Mod: 1) A third-party application, potentially but not inherently illegal, intended to give a cosmetic or functional change to the game. 2) To apply such an application to one's game. 3) A moderator of an online community.

Banhammer: A fictional object used by a moderator to exile a player from an online community.

Additions pending.

Indeed. I know a server that actually docks you points for every kill you get with the FAN. It's suprisingly effective at detering FAN scouts.

Leak/er - when a wave of monsters comes through the player's defenses
DPS - damage per second, either an average value of a weapon's damage over time, or the person who can cause the higher damage.

I would change Zerg Rush. It doesn't always mean charging 1 person in preference to everyone else. Generally, it just means a tactic where one side goes for a full on frontal assault after building up, relying on speed and overwhelming numbers in lieu of quality or strategy.

Just to expand from FPS a bit...

TBS - Turn Based Strategy
RTS - Real Time Strategy
MMO - Massively Multiplayer Online
RPG - Role-play Game
Turtle - to focus on defence
Rush - to attack as fast as possible, common in RTS
Quick Tech - RTS or TBS strategy focusing on technology and upgrades first
Uber Unit - an expensive, over-powered unit often limited in number

Dedicated Server - a host that others connect to to play a game - the opposite of peer-to-peer. Advantages include low latency (providing for geographical distance), persistent servers for regulars to meet at, admins and custom settings. Disadvantages include reliance on third-party maintenance and lack of personal customisation of the game.

Peer to Peer Gaming - the opposite of dedicated servers. One player hosts a game and others join. Advantages include ease of starting games, as often the actual connecting to a match is handled by the game itself, and in the cases where it isn't (eg, most RTS games) there is considerable scope for custom games. Disadvantages include zero latency for the host but high latency for the guests (see host Advantage), potentially a complete lack of control over the match into which you are placed, and everyone suffers from the ping of the slowest member of the group.

Admin - administrator of a dedicated server, tasked with keeping the server running and removing cheating, hacking or simply obnoxious players.

Latency - see Ping. Latency also takes into account processing time for the information being sent and is therefore generally longer than ping. It more accurately represents the delay witnessed in-game. High latency essentially is lag.

Ping - the time in milliseconds for the signals from your machine to reach the server and get back again. The farther the signal travels, the larger your ping. A ping of 150 is likely to be causing problems.

Wait People will say GG instead of Good Game? what's the point it's the same number of syllables.

I don't know how console gamers do it, but on the PC it takes less time to type it, which is important when there's a limited time between the end of match screen and the loading screen for the next one.

Ok you typing "said" instead of typing threw into thinking GG/GGs was spoken instead of written with would seem silly.

Gotcha. It probably should say typed, but I guess I didn't think it through properly. It's also rather PC specific, whereas most gamers these days are probably on a console, so it needs some changes before going on the list.

Mostly applies to RPG's, but I play RPG's.

Vendor trash: A term for items which will most likely not be sold to any player and have little or no function in the game except to be sold to an NPC vendor for money
