Jesus Christ, if I were to be a stupid kid for 16 years, I would really like to get some euthanasia. Seriously, even if she starts aging, she will be a 32-year old in a body of a 16-year old. And will die 16 years before the average.

Assuming there really is nothing wrong with her other than aging mentally and physically at 1/8 speed, and also assuming the average lifespan of 70 (just a guess), she would live to be about 560 years old.

I for one would be very interested in getting my physical aging slowed down to 1/8 as long as they can find a way to allow continued mental development at the normal rate. Think of all you could learn if you multiplied the years of life you have remaining by 8.

Wait til she's 40 or 50, and do a scan of her. If she's as healthy as a toddler/child then, it's officially sci-fi time.

Surely you don't mean that killing her just because she's a toddler forever would be merciful? Only kill someone if they're in constant agony, and you're certain they want it.

I personally think that it's simply a VERY little amount of HGH. ( Human Growth Hormone) and yes it exist. I think she just can't, or dose produce very little of it.

A lot of speculation on this thread. Let me add to that and extrapolate a bit. Say, the genetic 'defect' this girl has causes her not to age. The 'switch' that activates the degeneration of cells in normal humans, will not be turned on in her life. Say, scientists manage to isolate the gene. Say, that instead of at birth, scientists manage to disable this switch when a person reaches maturity. Would you sign up? I might.

Too bad for the girl and her parents though. Neither of them will get a normal life. Hopefully they can be happy nevertheless. At least it seems like the girl can be so, perhaps the parents will be satisfied with that.

Shut up, it's not like she's in continuous pain and suffering. There would be no mercy behind that. Stupid comment.
I'm sorry but who made you the judge on what's right or wrong? She's not growing at all and is mentally retarded, I can only imagine the hell she must go through each day.
Wow, Seriously? She is at the state of a toddler, sure she is stuck there, but its not like she knows she is stuck at being a toddler. Killing her would be basically murder, there is no sympathy or mercy involved, smypathy would be something along the lines of donating money, or something, killing her sounds down right evil. Your calling someone else out saying they have no sympathy when your the guy who jumps straight to murder. I argee the planet is over-populated, but if we kill off every single human with a disability, well, then we are no better than animals. That would make the world a much worse place. Population controlled should be done through the controlling of sex.. But I bet that bugs you more than genocide, doesn't it?
I geuss it's the Terri Schiavo argument in that we don't know if they truly want it or not. She won't grow up to live a fulfilling life, won't find love. But at the same time she could live a perfectly safe life.

Also, I when I said that I had the upmost sympathy for her, but neither I nor you have actually seen her so we have no idea if she's in a good condition or not.

And I'm not saying to kill every person with a disability, I'm saying we might want to as there is next to no hope of her living a better life.

And when did this get to population control? I don't care for sex, and I don't believe in genocide.
And in swoops the Vanguard.
This is like one of those fucking life support scenarios. On the one hand, she may never live what most people would call a full life, but on the other hand we have no right to say, being on the outside.

Brooke Greenberg is the size of an infant, with the mental capacity of a toddler.

She turned 16 in January.

"Why doesn't she age?" Howard Greenberg, 52, asked of his daughter. "Is she the fountain of youth?"

Such questions are why scientists are fascinated by Brooke. Among the many documented instances of children who fail to grow or develop in some way, Brooke's case may be unique, according to her doctor, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine pediatrician Lawrence Pakula, in Baltimore.

"Many of the best-known names in medicine, in their experience ... had not seen anyone who matched up to Brooke," Pakula said. "She is always a surprise."

Brooke hasn't aged in the conventional sense. Dr. Richard Walker of the University of South Florida College of Medicine, in Tampa, says Brooke's body is not developing as a coordinated unit, but as independent parts that are out of sync. She has never been diagnosed with any known genetic syndrome or chromosomal abnormality that would help explain why.

Healing Factor, anyone?

Okay, that's just fucked up. And extremely horrible. Although the question is, she's 16 now. Why didn't they report this earlier? You know... when she's 8 years old, or when she's 10?

...self-regenerative healing doesn't fit...he'd have aged more before whatever happened occurred, but it is intriguing to say the least. My theory is that she isn't aging at all because her system isn't going through development. I base this on the fact that her esophagus isn't fully formed yet and the obvious non-aging factor. The sad thing is, that she is still cellularly aging (if I'm correct), meaning, she will be the way she is throughout her life. I'd like to see how the experimental trials go in an effort to modify the gene, because, that is a really odd mutation, and it's a wonder she even made it to birth if she's not developing. Other things that need to be questioned though are did she have a disease or was she around something at 6-18 months that could have caused a disorder, such as cancer that potentially changed her RNA development system? ABC's got at least one more viewer this week.

If you read the article, you would be aware that she was given HGH therapy in attempt to alter her situation. It failed entirely. Though, this makes me think that maybe it's her system fails to recognize HGH at all. It would explain the not growing at all. I pity her though, as she will be dead before she's 30 if that's the case.

Probably not a healing mutation. It is far more likely she is just not aging properly. Chances are she drops dead/organs fail around the same time as everyone else. Remember looks aren't everything. Hell I rather look a hundred, and live or a thousand years in good health than have delayed aging, and live for 30+ years.

Why are you so retarded? Were you smacked around with a shovel as an infant?
Keep in mind this is the father, he's had a long time to get over the grief and suffering that his daughter must have caused. It's hard to stay depressed after 16 years, its only natural that he'd try to find the positives.
But 'Is she the fountain of youth'? Thre's no other explanation. He was shovelled.

Aaawww, if only...

Anyway, of course that girl is aging, she's gotta die sometime. It's just her evolution that's messed up.
