Why does no one mention Batman of the Future? It maybe wasn't the best version of Batman, but it was awesome and deserves an honourable mention at the very least.

Anyway, my personal favourite would probably be the Conroy animated Batman, since he captured every facet of the Bat's character - the wry humour, the ideals, the pride, the darkness and the emotion.

The one from Dark Knight/Batman Begins. Very good characterisation for a movie superhero!

The Batman from the comics. This is pretty much the official Batman anyway, isn't it? Also, Arkham Asylum Batman was pretty awesome as well. It's like if you mixed the Batman from the comics with Kevin Conroy's voice, its pretty obvious that you're going to get the ultimate Batman.

For me, Batman from the animated series and AA (game) Batman are basically the same, and this is my favorite incarnation of the Bat.
Grant Morrison's version from the Arkham Asylum graphic novel comes in a close second, being very dark and gritty WITHOUT being clichéd, and it really gets in your head.
Third place goes to Christian Bale. Crucify me if you like, but I think he's done a fine job portraying Batman the way he should be: clever, dark and menacing, very skilled, but ultimately human. A kickass detective, if you will.

Versions of Batman I have a definite dislike for are Adam West's campy freak show, Joel Schumacher's movies, and Frank Miller's comics. Many people love that last one, but I think he comes across as too brooding, violent and completely unrefined.

He didn't "voice" any of them. He was the star of the live action (and incredibly campy) televised series in the '60s.
Clearly, you've forgotten the Superfriends, where for at least one season, Adam West voiced Batman.

Actually there was a cartoon back in the 60s or early 70s that Adam West did voice. It was called "The New Adventures of Batman" and usually had Batmite in every episode I have seen of it (thanks to Teletoon Retro that airs it and the old Superman and Fantastic Four).

Glad people dig the Arkham Asylum Batman, as it is the closest to the original comic book character.

I just hope they don't have Robin in the sequel, and if they do I hope the story is 'A Death in the Family', the most dark, upsetting Batman story ever written:

Batman is so pissed off he punches Superman...
That's one of the most awesome sentences ever. I myself prefer the gritty comic/graphic novel Batman.
It's one of the most awesome moments ever too...

I was pretty upset reading it as a little kid. Couldn't believe they took it so far and made it so brutal.

It was totally worth the trauma though just to see...
