Ill go ahead and suggest that it would be 3 regions, DC/Baltimore/Philadelphia areas.

The $ suggests its clearly in the US. Plus using a representation of money could also represent the flow of big money through politics or even representative of the US mint which is headquartered in Philadelphia.

Given the natural lay of the land with all three cities lining the coast with A steep set of mountains lining behind the coast, you can make a natural border so as to solve the "island unto itself" problem by making the mountains impassible.

One other facet of this is the level of gangs and lower level activity you see in the baltimore and arlington areas, so that would likely be a start up location, migrating to philly as you work through the game and finally running into Washington with a focus on political greed in the narrative to capitalize on the current situation in the US economy, and the general populous current impression of our elected officials.

I think its about the strongest speculation I can make. Oh, and yes, I think it will be set modern era, given the implied money graphic in the V is of modern US currency. (which dissapoints me, because I was sort of hoping to see GTA Chicago, set back in the Capone days for this installment.

It will be somewhere in America. Just accept that. I want it to lose the forced hangouts with friends (just make it opt). Bring back planes and some of the crazy stuff like jetpacks. Most of all I want a character whos happy with their way of life. None of this I want to leave this life behind. Maybe I should just get Saints Row 3.

I know there's no chance of it happening but I'd love a GTA in Dublin, Ireland. Apart from the fact that I live in Ireland I just think it would suit 'cause Dublin is a pretty bad place for crime at the moment and the I dunno I just really would. It's hard to explain... Like how I want to hear Mastodon cover the Mortal Kombat theme.
Just ensure that the cast is genuinely Irish so that we don't have to put up with the likes of Robin Atkin Downes putting up one of the worst faked Irish accents ever recorded.

But yeah, I'd like a European GTA again, and a female protagonist... and maybe the 60s again. The combination of all three would be pretty darn snazzy.

There was already a GTA set in Las Vegas, called Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Pretty big game, actually. It was reviewed on most gaming sites and magazines. Have you been living under the sea or something?

Plus, it's not Las Vegas. It's Las Venturas. ¬¬
Pretty sure San Andreas is Los Angeles.
Nope, San Andreas is a state city, containing Los Santos (Los Angeles), San Fierro (San Francisco) and Las Venturas (Las Vegas).

Seriously, was I the only one that played that game?

Yeah someone already corrected me and was frankly less of an ass about it.
I played but I've been somewhat busy with all the things that have happened since 2004.
Congratulations on your greater knowledge of a game that is seven years old. You must be a much better person than me.

I know its kind of a running joke in-game, but the war with Australia. I'd like to see it set here, you start out as an Aussie ex-soldier who decides to take it to the Americans in revenge for for the war.

All we really know is that we used kangaroos strapped with explosives and that America (somehow) won. Strategic analysts have predicted Australia would be the hardest country to conquer given the location, climate, etc.

The backhistory would make for a nice game.
Wow, that's a pretty obscure GTA reference!! I doubt anyone else gets it here tho!

It's gonna be GTA V: The Wire.
I think I would actually love that. While I was not a fan of the gritty direction of IV, if they went all in with it, and provided an awesome story, and enough consequences in regular play, it'd make a great game. It wouldn't really be GTA anymore, but I think it might have enough good points on it's own. Then again, after Noir's failure, I'm not sure it's a route they'd take.

There's lots of places / times I'd like to see, but I don't really expect them. Ideally, I'd like Tokyo in the ever so near future; a busy neon light sprawl. But there's no way that'll happen.

Since we're still 15 mins away from the trailer I'm gonna add my guess. It's gonna be Washington DC (or the GTA equivalent) ripe with politics and other shenanigans. And there will be a play on the occupy protests.

That's my guess. We shall see.

My first guess was a Washington type setting - the more I think about it, the more i'm convinced that it would work with the more serious tone that GTAIV had.

I'd love to see them go overseas, London, Sydney, hell even Dubai could be hilarious, but I just don't see it happening for a numbered game.

Just watched the trailer on Lazlow's site, it's going to be set in Las Santos, if the 'VINEWOOD' sign at the end is any indication.

Since we're returning to the site of the most fun GTA game (in my opinion) to date, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Here's a link to the trailer, by the way.

OK, back in San Andreas. Looks like I was wrong. GTA to Saints Row: 'Hey that's cute, but let the big boys handle this sandbox thing.'

Is GTA just going to keep on cycling locations between Liberty, Vice City and San Andreas now?

Saves design efforts I guess...

Oh well~ More time to play TOR.

In GTA 3, I would sit for ages listening to Lazlow's radio station and the audio announcements of Ammu-nation in San Andreas.
